The best coach, those lessons are tremendous valuable for us hobbyist players. So we can enjoy playing tennis much more and understand a bit better what we see on the tennis games in TV. Πατρικ είσαι ο καλύτερος !!
I love the way in which tennis shows us that the force is not only a muscle issue but it is above all due to the correct technique. Moreover, we often manage to give strenght to the ball when we decrease the effort in the shot.
One technique that helps me accomplish the loose wrist and the snap is to imagine pulling the racket from your elbow. I used to imagine moving just the butt of the racket, but pulling from the elbow seems much better. It also helps me involve using my body for racket acceleration as well. Also a large enough grip size
Thanks Patrick. I am getting more understanding on the concept. I guess the additional power has to be combined with topspin? Could you do a lesson on topspin? Or maybe there is one that I have missed?
Would you please make a video on how to a finish short slow balls, which are usually also higher than the net level. I am making too many mistakes at these easy balls.
As a professional non-tennis player, I advice you to attack the ball early with 100% power. Whatever happens, even if you hit your opponent it will be Win/Win because first it feels good to hit a ball with Max power, second if you hit your opponent he will get injured so you will win. If you need more 10/10 tips you know who the man is! Good Luck and I hope that I will see you winning a Grand Slam so I can say that I trained a champion!!!!
@@TracyAWittenkeller You are right. Isn't it weight will move the racquet faster? Lose grip - more momentum. I wonder how this trick would be useful for kids that have weak hands.
@@marianna7371 I think it's more about timing your grip rather than being looser all the time but imagining it looser helps to have it loose then tighter when hitting, which in comparison is more efficient than just gripping tight all the time, right?
En deux mots : lâcher prise😉 Forget the limits and find yours. I am 50 and I reached my best ranking after finding this loose grip on my back hand. Now i keep the same shot and that helps me make the différence. Sometimes find it on my serve which helps even more. Backhand is too much under control until now and this is still my weakness…
Amazing, thanks for all Patrick! As I understand from this and other your videos, hand acceleration and loose grip is the key for groundstrokes and serves, right? Thanks again
You can create lag by positioning the wrist. Just being lose doesn't teach you the timing through contact. So sad to see such bad coaching advice. You think he teaches Williams how to hit the ball, please!
If a whip was stiff, it wouldn't get that whooop-paaa! sound at the end. But if it's loose, you can get it. That's what I think of. You can make a whip out of your shoulder elbow, wrist. 3 links that make a whip that you initiate with your whole body first, and then let it flow through your shoulder, elbow, wrist and racquet.
@@TennisCourtSIdeView For most players, they will automatically grip tighter at the moment of impact. So this is actually good advice for most players. May not work for you, but you're not like everyone else.
@@TennisCourtSIdeView I think that often in videos and instructions the distinction between loose/relaxed and completly limp can be lacking. Even if you swing loose and relaxed there is enough muscle tone and tension to prevent your tendons and ligaments from bearing all the weight. I agree that being completely limp like a noodle is a very bad idea for both control and for protecting your body. There's also a continuum in all groundstrokes from probably 95% throwing/5% pushing to 95% pushing or blocking/5% throwing depending on the incoming ball and other factors. I think Patrick is just trying to get across the idea that almost all players use a little too much grip pressure, have too tense wrists, and expend more force than needed with their arms during groundstrokes. My tennis made quantum leaps forward the day I started to trust that if I accelerate the racquet, have my contact out in front, and keep my arm loose and relaxed, then the ball would lose the collision with my racquet every single time. Both power and control increased with less feeling of effort. Just MHO.
This is what I'm struggling the most, trying to be mindful of it but as soon as start playing a match, it tenses back up and hit such bad forehands. Remind myself again between points and I tense up again 🤦♀️ It's a hard one for me. 😐

@@ml1916 So obviously I have picked him up on this particular technical element, however so much of what he says genuinely promotes some of the worst injury inducing technique we know of. Having a loose wrist for example means there is less control of the racquet face at contact which then in turn means more twisting of the wrist on contact. The more twist have the more strain your wrist incurs. This is just one basic biomechanic principle he gets wrong every time. The act of loosening the wrist should be replaced by looser shoulders or elbow flex. They are more stable joints that can handle it.
