One of my favourite things about the Ghostbusters franchise is that films of the time that deal with the supernatural usually required magic, religion, "chosen one" status and various other supernatural means to combat it because science and regular people were powerless against it. Ghostbusters was a big middle finger to that entire concept.
Yes! I love how in the movies and comics the ghostbusters are able to solve their problems with science. I mean their main weapon is a particle accelerator. I think thats why I like Ghostbusters so much.
Griffin Hicks You know Ringo was The Backbone of The Beatles, Winston was the same in Ghostbusters, did you not see him put it straight to Mayor Lenny, The end of the world talk with Ray. Dumbass.
Good old Rick Moranis: the eternal nerd - throwing a party with (almost) all guests being fellow nerds. Agreed: Bill Murray with his deadpan delivery is essential to this movie. Again: great analysis with new angles and views I wouldn't have thought about!
Good point, but I don't know many other disaster epics with lines like "Why worry? Each of us is wearing an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back."
Someday I would like to see a compare/contrast between Ghostbusters and Spies Like Us. Many of the elements you cite as working for Ghostbusters were also present in Spies Like Us, but only one went on to be a classic.
I'd say it was a parody aimed at the explosion of _Horror_ movies about ghosts, demonic forces, and possession that extended from the late '60s through the '80s (from _Rosemary's Baby_ to _The Exorcist_ to _Poltergeist)_ rather than Science-Fiction, but otherwise you're good. Plus there was a very definite Lovecraft angle at work after his writings started gaining their first big popularity in the '70s, with ancient cultures and pre-human cosmic deities coming back to destroy the world (from the Sumerians and Hittites to the Meketrex Supplicants and the Vuldronaii, whatever they were. Serpent Men? Elder Things?)
Great i am viewing all your reviews and getting inspiration for my Proficiency Exam . I wish you did Reviews on Restaurants and other stuff , this is Good Stuff ....
Nicely done featurette on the subject of the classic comedy film. Should have switched out the music to a different score track midway through so it didn't become repetitive.
Ghostbusters 1 and 2 were good..But how many times can you watch the movie? The franchise is not one of them moviex you can watch again and again like certain other movies
Bill Murray carries the film I think everyone can agree, Akroyd doesn't add much and Ramiss is busy playing the butt of Murray's jokes as the oddball one so really without Murray this film would've been much less memorable and it's a one off performance you can't just recreate slapping three more SNL actors together since they didn't graduate through other movies or writing them so it was always doomed to fail. And will always be doomed to fail everytime they try to redo this film. They may as well be doing Groundhog Day 2, same problem. No Murray no film.
Can't disagree enough. In fact Murray and Venkman are the least interesting thing about it. It's the cast of characters around Venkman's self absorbed worldview that just gives the film so much. That and the writing and quotes are just off the scale.
Ok i can make this video 30 seconds starting from now: the reson why ghostbusters is so great is because it has a god dam 100ft marshmello man walking throught the stretts of new york and stepping on churches
I don't think ghost busters is a good film. It's unfunny, has utterly unrelatable characters and there is a incongruence between the supposed huge stakes vs the reactions and disconnectedness of all the people regarding said stakes
As much as I enjoy the movie, I see your point. If someone was obviously under some sort of paranormal influence, floating, and growling in an unnatural voice, you wouldn't be making wisecracks. Same with Mr. Staypuft.
Ghostbusters 1984 is not great. Jokes did not land and did not made me laugh ever. Not a single laugh just a smirk cause it was so corny for me. Maybe in the past, they laughed so hard to this movie but today it is just MEH! Why did this movie became a cult classic? It is a completely sexist movie. And Bill Murray’s Character (Dr. Venkman) is completey annoying and bullshit and absurd. No to GHOSTBUSTERS 1984. 🙄🙄🙄
1. It's not funny 2. The performances are okayish for an 80s movie, but pretty bad from today's perspective 3. No throwaway characters? How about the secretary and the tacked-on token black dude? Would leaving them out have changed anything? 4. It's genuinely sexist -> Unless you've watched it as a child and love it for that, I don't think this is actually that good a movie.
yea agree to you i love ghostbusters i think in kids i see tv moive cool fight a ghost but i am is like nah is not funny is like wow they need work ghostbusters moive i not get it a lot of people love old ghostbuster is me i like 🙄
I really enjoyed it. I found it funny but I don’t know what you mean by great acting in today’s standard. You know how acting changes every decade. Marlon Brando might not impress anyone now but it did for people back then so I don’t think you can criticize acting when you yourself agree that it was the 80s. Every movie has throwaway characters which is why I disagree with that statement.
If you haven't seen Ghostbusters, then what are ya doing? Someone carve that in stone.
Step ahead of you!
I literally grew up on my dvd of it

Couldn't agree more, for me the big draw was the science vs supernatural dichotomy.
Poor Winston always gets forgotten :( the Ringo of the Ghostbusters
Griffin Hicks You know Ringo was The Backbone of The Beatles, Winston was the same in Ghostbusters, did you not see him put it straight to Mayor Lenny, The end of the world talk with Ray. Dumbass.
Drummers tend to get forgotten in most bands, but Ringo has his own band now and has some pretty good music too. Nothing comes easy.
He’s still the only one of them I want in my camp when the zombie apocalypse hits. The other three would get themselves eaten.
Should have cast Billy Dee Williams.
Jar Jar Binks?
Good old Rick Moranis: the eternal nerd - throwing a party with (almost) all guests being fellow nerds. Agreed: Bill Murray with his deadpan delivery is essential to this movie. Again: great analysis with new angles and views I wouldn't have thought about!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed!
Let's play Twister.
I love the Ghostbusters soundtrack. :)
Me too Sandra!
You are not missing anything with GB 2016.
I would disagree that the _movie_ doesn't take itself seriously: as others have pointed out, _Ghostbusters_ is lit and shot like a disaster epic.
That would be interesting, I like Spies Like Us, but it doesn't have the same memorability factor as GB
I know Rick Moranis retired from acting, but it would be great if he at least made a cameo in the 3rd movie. We need to see him one last time!
Love Ghostbusters so much
This movie was lighting in a bottle. In my opinion so was the second one. And hopefully the 2021 movie
These videos are really great
+Matthias Bash Thanks Matthias! I'm glad you have been enjoying them1
i might be late to this video, but it's still really good! i was entertained the whole time.
This is my favorite movie of all time. This review did it justice.
The music, the car and Bill Murray
Great i am viewing all your reviews and getting inspiration for my Proficiency Exam . I wish you did Reviews on Restaurants and other stuff , this is Good Stuff ....
Answer:
Stars
Sing-along music
People wanted it to be made
Bill Murray makes jokes
The East Coast's answer to _Poltergeist_
3:01 i laughed at this way too hard for someone who has seen the movie. that's how good it is.
Nicely done featurette on the subject of the classic comedy film. Should have switched out the music to a different score track midway through so it didn't become repetitive.
Mentioning the word "joke" while playing footage from "Jack and Jill" IS a joke.
I wanted to pick an extreme example, but I guess I went too far...
I didn`t understand the joke I`ve worked in the private sector before, they expect results.
Ghostbusters 1 and 2 were good..But how many times can you watch the movie? The franchise is not one of them moviex you can watch again and again like certain other movies
“A lack of other options”

It's obvious. It existing
There was a Ghostbusters movie in 2016???!!! WTF! 😂
Why?
its just Fun to watch. That’s it.
In answer to your question: Yes.
But blade runner and some of those other 80s sci-fi films were flops or weren’t even that big so...
You like ghost busters? Happy Hanukah to you too :)
I've just watched this film for the first time and I don't know how I feel about it. Not really what I expected who, was this film aimed at ?
Ok i can make this video 30 seconds starting from now: the reson why ghostbusters is so great is because it has a god dam 100ft marshmello man walking throught the stretts of new york and stepping on churches
2:05-2:14 And this is why the reboot failed...miserably.
I found it extremely mediocre and no one can change my mind....its got boring jokes and no redeeming quality
Peck was right.
I don't think ghost busters is a good film. It's unfunny, has utterly unrelatable characters and there is a incongruence between the supposed huge stakes vs the reactions and disconnectedness of all the people regarding said stakes

Yes I saw it when I was 11. Get to the point.
I usually like your videos, but this video essay seemed entirely pointless. This was literally nothing.
Am not a fan of this movie and the CGI on the old one makes me hate it even more lol

How it's sexist?
Haha.... I actually like the new one better
Why? GB 2016 didn’t take itself or its characters seriously.
1. It's not funny

Ghostbusters is a comedy? I didn't laugh once.
THE THREE LEMONS I didn't know it was a comedy for years.
