    Dear Hatari. Please make the right decision. Please be brave and chose the most powerful and effective approach to shed light on the situation going on in Israel. I don’t know what the most powerful and effective approach would be, but I hope you will evaluate what action will have the biggest (long term) impact. I am very proud of your courage so far and I hope you will continue being courageous during the final days of your stay in Israel. Good luck and be brave :)

    A difficult choice, and one that will put Hatari directly in the line of criticism. It's easy for someone like me who is far removed from the situation to comment, but the burden is very much what the Icelandic delegation has to bear. I think Hatari should stay in ESC as a catalyst for dialogue.
    Edit: there's a slight typo in the title of the video. Change "to" ->"too"

    C'mon guys! I'm glad you haven't quited, but I still cannot understand why the urge for boycotting? If you do not support Israel politics, fine, you're free to do so. But do you really think that a boycott will change anything? Politicians couldn't care less about Eurovision, but Israeli people do care about what is going on! They are not happy for living in this ongoing war. Is it fair they have to pay for a conflict that has lasted for decades? Palestinian people are suffering, yes, Israeli too! The war is painful for both. These people only want to live in peace and enjoying Eurovision as much as any other eurovisive winner country. So please, bring them music, not war! 😉 I still wish you good fortune!

      Why is ignoring what is done wrong the right thing to do? We are talking about lives of people, and even children included. While people generally want the best for everyone, don´t you think the least we can do is to acknowledge we notice wrong being done? We are not talking about littering here.

    • @marcelaalmeida3771
      @marcelaalmeida3771 5 лет назад +3

      @@johanna3001 I agree with you, we are not definitely talking about littering. This is a sensitive issue and I'm not commanding Iceland to shut up! I myself blame all kinds of censorship. I saw the israeli journalist tried to shut you up, during the press conference (at least it seemed to be), and it felt awkward. But so far, Hatari have been protesting against the host country, like "damn Israel politics, poor Palestinians" as if the war was one-sided, which is not. And that's exactly why israelis are getting unconfortable with some declarations, because it makes them look like a bunch of unconstrained butchers. A few days ago, Hamas fired around 700 rockets at Israel. 4 Israelis died and many others were injured. Just one example of how they are being affected as well. In my view, maybe, it would be fairer to show some support for Israelis too. And that's why I'm glad that Hatari move forward with Eurovision. To the eyes of the world, a boycott would only signal the blame on these people. Israelis are already in a lose-lose situation, whether Eurovision stays or not!

    I think everything that brings light to what's happening in Palestine is a good thing, so I really appreciate that they decided to go there with criticism: visiting Hebron and explaining what they saw, not letting the host censurate them in the press conference when they were asked about the topic, etc. I'm sure they have more things planned for these days and I think this is more effective than not showing up, because if you're not in a place, even though you explain why you're not there, in a way you remain silent, you keep at home ignoring what's going on, and I think is not the same as if you go there and try to make noise. Just my opinion, I'm not saying that boycott is the wrong choice but what Hatari are doing is brave and they deserve recognition for that.

    • @locust1979

      Actually there is nothing particularly brave about going to a democratic country with a high degree of freedom of speech (Israel) and expressing their criticism of the local government. (it’s not like they’re going to be arrested or thrown in jail for doing so, just heavily criticized). The fact that their press conference ended abruptly has nothing do with censorship but rather with the fact that the organizers tried to keep in line with the framework and the rules of the competition which Hatari purposefully ignored or refused to comply with on numerous occasions (in particular, rule 2.6 of ESC). So they are actually lucky they have not been banned from the contest so far although they clearly should have been. As for being brave, a remarkable example of bravery would be if they went to the Palestinian territories in their full BDSM attire and tried to protest against the violation of basic human rights by the Palestinian government there. However, something tells me it’s not going to happen any time soon.

    • @lauraphernelia_
      @lauraphernelia_ 5 лет назад +2

      locust1979 I don't think Israel is such a democratic country when they're violating human rights by comitting an apartheid and genocide towards the Palestinian people. Of course I don't think they're gonna be thrown to jail or something like that. What I meant with "being brave" is that they're not afraid to speak their minds even though they know they're creating controversia and bringing awareness on a topic like this, as well as the Australian contestant, while others participants are remaining silent.

      When I mentioned Israel being a democracy, I was referring to such aspects as freedom of political and religious expression within the country of Israel and freedom of speech in particular. Btw, Israel scored pretty high in 2018 on the Democracy Index en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index
      and was placed in the category of “flawed democracies” together with France, Belgium and Italy, for example. But since you have mentioned such strong terms as “apartheid” and “genocide”, would you mind providing some independent and credible sources to support your argument? And by “credible sources” I do not mean quoting Hatari’s statements or links to Pro-Palestinian propaganda websites. Many thanks in advance.

    Any decision to boycott should have been taken prior to arrival in Tel Aviv. Pulling out now and protesting Israel given recent events is unlikely to attract wide support from the ESC masses - Hatari's target audience. They should do what feels right for them but also consider the impacts of their decisions including on their country, fan base and potential loss of support for future projects. Perhaps for ESC, choose one *manageable* issue and stick with it (capitalist slavery? consumerism? hatred? ) Pushing the Israel-Palestine issue within Israel risks division and a backlash - is Hatari prepared for that? Timing is everything. I support the guys whatever they decide to do.

    • @slitherzither
      @slitherzither 5 лет назад

      @Isleif I agree. I can't imagine they would pull out now anyway. I would guess that there would be consequences from the EBU for Iceland in future years if they were to do such a thing, and I doubt they would want that. I think they've been reasonably careful with their comments, so I don't think they're going to do anything to get themselves kicked out.
      Also, good to see you around again. I felt like you weren't popping up as much lately.

    • @locust1979
      @locust1979 5 лет назад +1

      They have already clearly violated rule 2.6 of the Eurovision Song Contest by making blunt political statements in interviews and press conferences. They keep provoking the EBU and the organizers seeing how far they can go and then portray themselves as freedom of speech defenders who are being so cruelly censored and shut up. This is a really hypocritical attitude on their part; the rules of the competition are very clear with respect to political talk, and both Hatari and the Icelandic delegation agreed to comply with them prior to the contest. So what is happening around Hatari’s participation is to a large extent EBU’s fault since they do not have the guts to enforce their own rules and have let the competition become so political and controversial, which is a real shame.

      mishi mishi Get off your high horse. Eurovision hasn't been equivalent to quality in a long long time, if ever. Real music? Lmao, what a joke. Imagine being such a simpleton to actually think this show is about quality rather than a simple popularity contest under the guise of being a prestigious song festival, watched and judged by the most redundant minds in music. Never mind being of such inferior intellect that one could actually take the message of the song or the band seriously rather than satirically and as food for thought. That said, Hatari is still the most unique act in this contest regardless of their message, which still remains tongue-in-cheek and ambiguous, just causing you to think and for attention to be drawn to certain situations, and that's just right. Which is unlike the boring ballads that cheeseballs like you can't get enough of. They are merely participating in this snoozefest in an ironic way.

    • @locust1979
      @locust1979 5 лет назад +3

      @yosh I also consider Hatari to be a high quality act: I think their music is excellent and visual presentation really impressive. I also don’t see a problem with the message of their song, they in fact manage to convey it in a subtle and effective way through their art. What I and many others do not agree with and criticize is their intention to politicize this year’s contest by making less than ambiguous statements in their interviews and openly attacking the host country. This is completely inappropriate in the context of Eurovision as it clearly violates the rules of the contest and may serve as a reason for disqualification.
      P.S. Using wirds such as “simpleton” and “of inferior intellect” was totally unnecessary. Let’s keep this discussion civilized.

    The fact that you’re giving this individual who’s been friendly with the Hamas leader in the past a platform to express his extremely one-sided and biased view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is disturbing to say the least.
