I'm kinda bummed I never believed in Santa. My mom raised us very worldly and didnt shield us from anything. We'd be watching sex scenes and horrible R-rated horror movies at like 7 years old and watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre and she never sugarcoated anything, she'd just like, "Yup. Ya gotta watch out. My daughter believed in Santa way too long. When she was in 4th grade she came home and said, “mom, Ashley said there’s no such thing as Santa.” I asked her what she thought. She said “I know there’s a Santa, we’re too poor to buy all that stuff.” That’s when I knew I’d been doing Christmas right! 😂

My daughter believed in santa until the 4th grade too. When her class told her there wasn't one and teased her, she said "my mom told me there was a santa and I know she would never lie to me". The teacher called to let me know because she knew it was going to be a problem. It was a very traumatic thing for us both. I just loved that all my kids still believed in the magic and didn't want to take that away but it was a major problem. She was SO disappointed that I had lied to her. The teacher and school counselor got involved to try to help. It was really sad. So while I definitely understand why you would want to keep that going, it can also backfire in a big way. My two daughters never did the santa thing because of it but my son does. I think the solution if you want to do Santa is to do what Ryan said ad agree on an age. That way it's coming from you. I suggest earlier that later. Not passed 1st grade.

As a Starbucks employee, we literally have a connection score and our store makes us write down three questions to ask customers. They claim everyone loves to connect even if they look disinterested. I was just screaming YESSS through that whole discussion.
I actually got fired for the not doing it's lol. I only lasted a couple of months. 😭
I worked at a Starbucks for a couple months in 2013, and when I'd work the drive thru, they'd encourage me to make small talk, leave the window open, etc. But I was/am NOT about small talk 😂 I'd just close the window & only open when necessary. But I felt bad cuz I could TELL some of the customers were expecting and possibly WANTING small talk 😬 Lololool not the fit for me! Kudos to you!
No, you’re tipped for service not conversation. Imo as an individual with mental disorders and/or special needs. I would not enjoy or probably even enter the restaurant/store. That’s just ME tho.
You can be friendly and provide good customer service WITHOUT the small talk. It’s crazy to me that they make the employees do that.
I just quit Starbucks after 8 years with the company. They refused to give me a raise because "the company was hurting financially." Turns out they were stalking me on Instagram and since I was pro-union for Starbucks, I found out they put me on a "fire" list- aka, they were writing me up for stuff that even the SS were getting away with- my ten minute breaks were "too long", etc.
When I walked in for my last shift, we had 2 call outs and my manager was ignoring our phone calls. I walked out with a smile

Psych major here. The Santa topic came up in school and they say it's bad to keep up the santa thing because kids realize you lied to them for the first time and thats damaging. I personally didn't tell my kids santa was real. We still participate in all holiday activities, get pictures with santa, etc. But they know he's just a character like mickey mouse. They also know to not ruin it for others.
I love your stories about being kids believing in Santa then finding out. I remember believing so hard, I was like Chris I cried. I took it hard. But Chris’s dad sounds so cool with the Santa boots!
