you guys seemed to like my other a day in the life of a research student vlog so I thought I would make a second one! so on this wonderful sunday me and a friend who is also studying translational cancer medicine at king's college london met up at the labs in guy's campus, where I was carrying out some exosome extraction experiments with the helps of my friend who is currently a research assistant in cancer research and is soon to start his PhD!
I gotta say - this day was more of a goofy day, it was a sunday, we were all very tired, but we tried to get through with some good old fashioned science humour...whatever that means!

Research in an academic setting seems soooo much more chill and less stressful than working in a hospital (seems like more flexibility, and minimal interaction with people...and 2 hours for coffee? 🥰); I think that it would be very enjoyable and rewarding!
There's not a lot of money in academic research, sadly.
Me : learns how to convert mols into grams using molecular mass, becomes familiar with different measurement units so that I can do precise experiments in the future.
Real scientist : “the tiniest weeniest pinch”

Great video, Atousa! :) I know you're going into medicine, but I was wondering what Felix is going to get into after his PhD? Also, what exactly are you two investigating for your research project??
Hello lovely :) I have made a video with Felix which is coming up soon and in that he can talk a bit more about his story but basically he wants to work as a cancer researcher, and continue doing research projects for the university! How do you compare a masters degree in the uk vs the us .? Is it beneficial or not for career aspects.. is it considered a negative that’s its only 1 yr.
hey one question does it really matter what uni you go to and are you doing a hcpc portfolio in your uni, also what does the guy want to do as a graduate, work in the nhs or something else? Last one, is the guy and you doing biomedicine course in kings or a masters or phd in something, if so which course was it so i can check it up to see graduate prospects, might be interested. Thx!
hey lovely, that's a tough question to answer because it is both yes and no...as I've said in my other videos, for undergraduate study, some courses are NHS accredited and some aren't so it depends what you want to do - if you want to go into the NHS try searching for NHS accredited courses, and if you want to do more research based, try looking at other universities that do biomedical courses! Also, Felix, the guys who is a graduate of both biomedical science and the master's is going to do a PhD in cancer research, and he wants to work as a cancer researcher in the future, so get involved in discovering new things in the labs and publishing scientific papers etc. But - PhDs aren't so much like courses...they are more like jobs! so they aren't always advertised on university websites in the same way as a degree or master's degree will be! I will make a separate video about this, and there is a video with Felix coming up which should help you out more :) best of luck!

aww that is amazing! best of luck! and my first year was really good, you will be given a LOT of new things to learn, but as long as you keep on top of your notes, you should be fine, and all of the things you will learn are SO interesting! :)

Hello lovely! :) It's great to hear that you want to be a researcher too! So if you want to do research in a medical field like Felix, you could start by doing biomedical sciences, and after do a research master's and a PhD! Usually when you start biomed, you can decide which area of research you like the most - so for me and felix we both enjoyed cancer research, but there is research in SO many different medical areas :) also that is so sweet of you! I'm glad you like the video :)
hi, I really want to do biomedical science at kings college and I want to ask if it is ok to do BTEC science to study biomedical science at kings college because I try to see if they accept BETC science students on the website but I really can't find anything . If you can answer this it will be very helpful.

@@fardeenhussain9269 yes they do accept BTEC because biomedical science is mostly based on practical work in labs

@@fardeenhussain9269 umm I called one of the universities about BTEC science and the careers you can do they said that they accept extended diploma and extended certificate apparently they said that there is basically no difference between an extended diploma and extended certificate

usually 3-4 years :)

I think it differs every year but we had 14 in my group :)
What is your specialty?
Are you studying in the us? Is the master 1 year or 2 ? And whetn you take phd you're gonna pay for it or they'll pay kinda you work?
She's in London. Masters tend to be a year long full time or 2 years part time. There are exceptions though, some are 2 years full time. PhDs are expensive if self-funded but for most home citizens, you get funded and that includes a salary as well. Again, there are exceptions to all things and some don't get paid.

Hi mam I am 16 now and I love to do work in labs so I need to become a cancer researcher. But I don't know what subject l have to take in Bsc. Some one said it is microbiology and others it is oncology .so can you help me?
You can take any of the life sciences :) microbiology, oncology, genetics, cell biology, physiology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences etc. all of these (and similar courses) are acceptable!

hey lovely! at the moment I am studying a master's course, so I don't get paid, but you can get research assistant jobs. I'm not sure how much the pay is though! I think it varies :)
