    3 circles close in size as a cut line (no hatch). air blowing on the circle to remove soot. we've cut through 2mm steel in half an hour with a 50 watt with a 50mm circle. The key is air though, you quickly build up a soot layer at the bottom without it and you rapidly get diminishing returns. More air, more better. Also, magnets (I'll let you figure the magnets part out, the other part is a freebie

      interestingly. I have a 60W mopa m7 laser and a 6 cm circle in a 1mm steel sheet that burned it for me in about half an hour .. the power consumption was around 235W

    Just as others have said. THANK YOU! You just saved me from making a purchase of one tech over another. This video was great because it show what it could do and what it couldn't but in a positive way. I was gifted a D1 PRO 20w, by a friend who bought it but just couldn't get it to do what the ads said. So it sits about 10 feet behind me waiting for my next project. I watch every promotion from laser suppliers and manufacturers trying to absorb everything I can before making the jump into my first laser purchase. Rumor of today is Xtool going to jump into the MOPA laser market. Your willingness to make a vid like this is the reason for my thumbs up and subscribed.

      @@flortristanwyes of course it does because the 1kW Fiberlaser is not pulsed it has 1kW CW (continous Wave) 😉
      I have a JPT Mopa M7 Fiberlaser with 100W. It Cuts through a 1mm stainless steel in 10min with a 110 x 110mm Lens. Now i bought more Lenses, 50, 70, 150, 175 and 200mm. The reason is if you have the half Spot diameter the power density increases 4 numbers. With the 110mm Lens the spot diameter is 0.04mm and the Power density is 1.2GW/cm2. With the 50mm Lens the power density is round about 6GW/cm2

      The wobble settings was made for cutting metal. And you have to set the focus halfway through into your part. Because the beam Focus point gets Smaller and loses power at the focus point the deeper you go.

    hey...so you would have gotten through it faster with a focused fan blowing directly on it to remove the soot. Tested. no fan took 2.5 hours to get through some sheet metal (Forgot the thickness), or 30 minutes with a small desk fan pointing directly on the hole

    As one other comment said, the focus is only optimal for a very limited z height. At some point it will simply stop cutting. Try to move the laser down in some increment - maybe 0.3mm, since that is what was advertised....

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  4 года назад

      Yep that's what I thought too and I tried to play with focus during this experiment but it didn't have a major impact. Since making this video, I've learned about the wobble setting which helps achieve depth for something like this. Really, a 20w just isn't a good tool for this kind of depth.

I I would like to cut gold and silver 0.15mm thick , I have ordered a 20w fiber laser with a 110x110 lens do you think it will cut ok or will I need a 70x70 lens / more power? Thanks in advance..and a happy Xmas to you, regards Ed👍

      I don't do much (or any really) cutting so I'd only be guessing. I'd start with your 110 and go from there. Lenses aren't a big deal to order later.
