Being a CNA prior to becoming a Nurse helps you be a better manager of CNAs as a Nurse. All experience is going to contribute to being a better Nurse. Now there are many Nurses that are excellent and have never been a CNA.
Golden Ma well first of all there was a comment under this one, I was talking about Ronda Witt until she deleted her comment so.. I'm chill, thanks 🤷🏽♀️
I applied into a 5 weeks CNA program right after High School to get experience helping people in the medical field. I wanted a job beneficial job while in school majoring in molecular- biology to become a doctor. Fast forward 7 years later, I'm in my last year at UCSD school of medicine doing my rotations. I've worked as a CNA for 5 years and it was a life changer for me. I've learned so much throughout those years and have so much respect for CNAs.
That’s so inspiring to hear. I know you might not respond to this, but I just started clinicals this week with the goal of eventually going into neurology. Hope things are going well.
Lina Germilus wats funny, if u love it the pay doesnt matter and its not so bad as u make it sound, if ur interested to become a nurse just for money, ur in the wrong career, ur the kind of nurses who let patients die
CNAs seriously don't get enough credit! I've never actually been one, but in my nursing program we take over the CNA duties, as well as the RN duties when we're in clinical and the CNA duties are far more stressful and takes a lot more work! It really sucks when I see RNs in the hospital act like they can't help their CNA...like what?! Why even be in the profession if you're going to act like you're too good for something. I know they get busy, but there are some nurses who just act like they shouldn't have to help their CNA and it's ridiculous. Rant over lol
Having been a CNA and RN for many years now, I humbly disagree. The incredible liability and stress of appropriate care fall on the RN. When I was a CNA I actually told my friend, "I can't wait to be a nurse so I can sit on by butt and tell the CNA what to do". I became a nurse and learned the truth was so much different! Time will teach you all you need to know. CNAs are amazing and valuable and few people appreciate the CNA more than the nurse!
This is perfectly said. I am in school studying to become a CNA and I think about RNs doing that. Hopefully, they don't act like they're too good because from what I'm studying, the nurse is in charge of the CNAs and their job is on the line based on how we perform the delegated tasks. We all are apart of the nursing team.
Love being a CNA but also so glad I'm working towards my RN. Mother of 5, police officer husband and no family for couple hundred miles each direction, but nothing can stop a determined momma! I have always thought that being a CNA was a great first step to being a Nurse, you learn the very foundation for why you want to be a nurse. Love your videos, they keep me sane on some pretty crazy days! 💖
I use to think of it exactly the same way...until i started the cna program. WHen i did my first clinical it changed me! Making me happier than i have ever been before. CNA's are the ones who give those that little bit of attention. This program has changed me and Im so glad that thought has been taken away from me.
Perhaps, but In my opinion a nurse assistant is sort of a companion. A nurse assistant has the intuition and sensitivity to be the eyes and ears of the licensed professionals. When a nurse assistant becomes a licensed professional, they should be better patient advocates.
You are amazing! I was an RN in China for 3 years. I can do IV,IM..lots of RNs job.. Now I just got my green card in US, I really want to be an RN in US ,but it's not easy for me, language is the hardest thing!! So I want to be a CNA first!!! Your video means lots to me! THANK YOU . ❤❤❤
Melanie Dou just take up esl classes first , your RN should be transferred to the US with no problem . Just got to find the proper authority to get your License recognized in the Us
Yes you hit it right on the nose Holley we do not get enough credit, sometimes I feel like the LPNs and RNs forget where they have came from in their education because they started from the same root as us. My residents give me more credit than some of the nurses which makes it so rewarding in the end. The nurses I do have a great relationship with give me advice and tips as I am going to school for my RN BSN. Girl you're doing you thing out here stay blessed!!!
That tell you something try to upgrade to become a LPN RN you can work you can do different things with but being in the nursing giving you one and you have that back ground dont let time and age catch up with you work out in good luck im 45 i wish i would do this at the age 20
Thank you so much for this. I am currently in an a CNA course now and I already have such an appreciation for CNA's already. I hate the stigma that is behind it. I am applying for nursing school now and have been told by so many different people that CNA's make the best nurses!
I'm going into a CNA program so I can have a steady paycheck and a chance to help people. Although I'm not pursuing a future career as a nurse, I believe this would be good experience for my teaching career
I am a CNA and have been one for almost a year and I absolutely love it! It is the most rewarding job! I love the smiles on my residents faces and I love listening to their stories. I work at a long term care facility on the Alzheimer's unit and it is definitely hard but SO rewarding. I just love it!
I've been one for more then 25 years! Most of the time it is very rewarding. But it doesn't provide enough to raise a family. And most facilities wont consider your experience. But overall, it is a wonder experience. I'm always learning something new. And patients give you so information on life!
I am 32 yrs old and have been wanting to do RN since I was 24 but due to financial problems I've put it off I'm currently always working in warehouses which I'm tired of and money isn't always great. I have seriously considered doing CNA so thank you for your advice I am definitely looking at my community college for this and hopefully afterwards I could continue for RN
I am so so glad you posted this! I just got a scholarship that is sponsoring me to become a CNA! I am working on my BSN RN and I am so glad I will have an opportunity to be a CNA during school and gain wonderful experience. You're awesome! I love how many positive examples you gave in this video, and I really think you explained very well how CNA's need to be respected too :) I love your videos!!
I absolutely loved this video! I’m a high school senior in a cna course right now and I was kind of worried because of all the negative things people say about it, but you really cleared everything up for me and helped me realize how the cnas really help the residents..I’m so excited to start! THANK YOU!!!
You will be a great nurse! I'm in nursing school right now and I'm starting to feel really defeated. But that's just all part of the experience. I love nursing and I can't see myself doing anything else. Your videos help me keep going!
I work as a CNA and we have to do vitals. Like every shift, we do the vitals. Our nurses only do specific vitals if a patient needs it done before a med is passed. It's neat to hear that CNA duties vary from place to place. (: Great video. -An aspiring nursing student, Rachel
At the telemetry unit I used to work on as a PCT, our shift was as followed Walking rounds, vitals, glucose, ambulate patient's with bleeding precautions, hourly rounding, meal and fluid intake and output, Q2 vitals on MI and CVA patients, baths, second ambulating bleeding precaution patients, empty urinal hats, urinals, foleys, NEPHROSTOMY bags, JPs, Colostomy and ILEOSTOMY bags, EGKs, Daily weights, transport patients to scheduled Xray, etc call lights, prepare next shift to have an easier shift, chart, and take the same 6 or 7 patients to the bathroom every 5 minutes with lasix push for CHF and everything else that was asked of us by RN, patient's and their family, then maybe we could leave a half hour after our shift ended
I wold love for you to do a video on how you budget! I'm considering applying for nursing school after I graduate but I also have no clue how I am going to afford it!
I've always respected CNAs since I was a nurse and even more so now that I'm a CNA instructor. I have students who come in all doe-eyed, which means innocent and full of expectation and wanting to do right as CNAs and they get burnt by evil people in the health care system. That's why I call out these behaviours in my channel. Nurses need to value their aides!!!!
I love being a CNA I just wish we got paid more we don’t feed, clean, lift, shift, rotate, vital checks, companionship. For $9 and hour 😑 not asking for anything to crazy but we are responsible for someone’s life.
It would really be a great job if the facilities didn't overwhelm the staff. When I first started out in 1981 it was wonderful. I had nine patients on day shift, and only five or six were complete care, while the others just needed their bras hooked and little tasks like that. We did their hair, their nails, their make up. It isn't fun like that anymore.
@@PSALMSOFSONGS They do. I worked short of help many nights with two floors of 40 people and the charge nurse went over in the day room and piled up on the couch and slept! The other CNAs were so angry and would take turns coming from their floors to help me.
@@mpaxton8991 I shared this on another nursing vlog that essentially what we do IS THEIR JOB!!!!! We're just here to ASSIST! If the states decided to dismiss the CNAs from all institutions, then guess what they nurses gotta go back to their initial job, cleaning, bathing, ambulate, feed, wiping BM, ETC.
I’m a CNA/PCT and I completely agree with you 100%!!!! And when you have that mentality that’s how you become a great nurse because you truly started from the bottom and worked so hard to work your way up! I’m also in a BSN program and I definitely think being an aide before becoming a nurse is a great idea!!!!
Thanks for speaking on behalf of all CNA's out there who are overworked and underappreciated. fellow CNA here in a nursing program also and I will never forget where I came from and will always respect and help out my CNA's when I'm a nurse
I love your attitude so much, the way you find positive things in scenarios that many people view as annoying or negative! Keep up the hard work sista!
I totally smiled during this entire video! Just want to say first off I'm proud of you for the hard work you've put into getting where you are today. You have a compassionate heart and that's what's needed in the health field. I, myself am starting school soon to be a cna. My goal is to be an OR nurse. I love surgeries, I can watch them allllll day long! Your video was inspirational and very helpful. Thank you and best wishes on your future! You'll be one kick ass nurse!
I wanted to be a CNA to see if I even like nursing but people have discourage me to do it. Also some RN programs make it a requirement to have CNA experience.
alexis hitchcock Same here, I truly want to know of Nursing is a path I want to take. Alot of ppl are saying just go into the program (I already have a college degree in psycg), they say CNA is a waste of time. But I feel that it prepares you a little
alexis hitchcock I was a patient care tech for 29 years got laid off for a year then got hired at another hospital. I'm getting burned out from it so just thinking about going into phlebotomy no lifting , cleaning ect. just draw blood and carry on
I just decided to make the plunge into becoming a CNA, Im excited to start this new journey and your video helps me feel more confident in my decision 💖
Preach! I sent this to my coworkers. It's different here in OR, though. When l certified in 2014, l had to take one computer pre-test, and then for the board exam, I had to take a 100 question exam, and then I had to do 5 skills demonstrations. To keep my license, l have to have 400 documented, paid hours of work under a nurse's supervision. We do the vitals in my facility, and some of the nurses are really cool about grabbing us to assist with wound care procedures (like holding a limb during a dressing change, or during a debridement procedure). CNA 1's start at $11 in my facility with 0 years of experience, and then the rate of pay goes up $1 per year of experience. It's always interesting to learn about the differences from state to state!
Omg, if I can give this a thumbs up more than once I totally would. I start my classes to become a CNA soon and I now feel confident. The field definitely needs more great people like you who not only provide greatness to the patients but to their positions as a CNA. Thanks, you rock and may your journey in the field bring you success and blessings!(;
Thank you for making this video! I'm a senior in High School and I've been blessed with the opportunity to go to tech school this year for their CNA program and I absolutely love it! It has made me realize how much I desire to care for people and love them! We actually get to start clinical's on the 27th! We go to hospitals and nursing homes! Then I hope to take my certification test in May!
Thanks Holley for addressing the "ass wiping" degrading remarks about the CNA job. People that make such comments don't really care about people, but are only in the field of Nursing just for the Money! Holley stay humble, as you are a kind Nurse, a true patient caregiver.
YOU'RE SUCH A BLESSING TO EVERYONE! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU TO FIND A JOB YOU LOVE AND HELP EVERYONE IN NEED OF CARE. GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!!
Love this video!!! thank you for posting this!! I'm planning on taking a CNA course this summer and I'm really excited. Some people have tried to discourage me by saying it is super hard and underpaid, and while that might be true, I still want the experience and start from the bottom. I think being a CNA before RN is super important and should be encouraged. I'm currently taking pre-requisites to apply for my nursing program so I want to get a job in healthcare so when I start the program I'll have some experience. I love your perspective on the job :)
Although it has been 3 years since you’ve posted this it helped so much!! I watch your videos regularly so rn that I searched day in the life of a CNA and I saw you had a video I felt confident you would say the truth and would give great advice!! Thank you for being great and not taking down your old videos they help!! 🤍🤍🤍
I haven’t finish my GED, I drop high school four years ago and once I finish my GED I will get prepare and take the CPR test and training and go for CNA training 🥰❤️. Honestly this was great to hear right now I don’t know how is it going to be for me, but I will be open for more information that you give about CNA training and how to do it..😊
I'm so grateful for this video. I'm about to be in nursing school and about to finish my CNA course and have to felt it would be a great base to work off of and to have under your belt while in school. I did a huge career change going from a hairdresser to nursing. I started nursing 5 years ago and unfortunately never finished but now that my head is in the right place I never been so motivated to finish my dream job. This helped me so much... like you said people often criticize and think CNAS aren't worth the crap but there's so much more to it! This helped me put the negative thoughts behind me and ready to get out there!
wow! thanks for the encouragement.I will start working as a CNA every other weekend next month and also am doing prerequistes for nursing.Currently on orientation at my new job.I agree with you on teamwork in the nursing field and working as a CNA before or while going to Nursing school.Good video!!
I am a CNA, I have been at my facility for almost a year. Certified for 7 months. I love my job. I am soon going back to school to be and EMT and eventually down the road go back for my RN to be a NICU nurse. I love everything your saying in this video. It frustrates me as well when people call us certified ass wipers. If they have never done the job they do not actually understand everything we do. I have held patients hands as they have taken their last breath, I have cleaned up patients that have passed away, I have hugged the family because their family member just passed away all while staying strong while being with the family. I wish i could say i make as much as you do. I put in anywhere from 120 to 130 hours in a pay period. I make only about 9.75 an hour. We don´t get enough credit for our job or get paid enough, Its not about the money for me but all the hard work we do i do feel like they should pay us more than they actually do. The only thing I do not like about my job is working short staffed all the time. I work in the memory care unit on 12 hours shifts 7p-7a and I am usually the only aide on the unit by myself taking care of almost 30 residents. I love this video though!
You are absolutely adorable and your heart is just a light in this field. I have been a director / manager for assisted livings and let me tell you it is VERY HARD to find people like you with a good heart and good spirits! I am starting all over here in Michigan starting with my CNA because my licenses and trainings do not transfer here HOWEVER I like you am excited to start this journey and am looking forward to learning more this time around. I always treated my employees with the upmost respect and you are TOTALLY in the right without the CNAs things wouldn’t run smoothly. Keep it up and I am just so happy to have come across your video! You go girl!
when you care for someone, you won't care if you have to wipe ass, or feed someone, or help someone. That's the reason I respect you. I want to become a nursing assistant, but I hope I am able to reach my goals. Either that, or I want a job as a business journalist.
I love that I do most CNA work as a caregiver. I’m becoming a CNA this spring fingers crossed you know! Then moving on to my nursing classes. 💙 BEST JOB EVER! I love the small talk while getting people in the sling and having some good laughs.
This was really inspiring to me especially at the fact that I’m stressing about the skills test😫 good news tho I passed my written test which was 150 questions, thank u soooo much for this, this literally made my day and reminded me why I decided I wanted to become a C.N.A❤️❤️❤️
You are awesome and passionate in your work. My work and elderly patients are so special and I love working with them. Thank you for your encouragement and words. You will do wonderfully well as a nurse.
I’m becoming a CNA in the fall and then am doing a bridge program to get my BSN in nursing. This video was amazing and gave me so much peace about becoming a CNA first! Thank you so much❤️
Thank you so much for this honest video. I have a Master's in Nursing Education & have been a nurse for over 40 years but started as a CNA! It was the best base for my training. I now am the Program Manager for the CNA Instruction of a college in Massachusetts and will be using the video during their orientation. We are also trying a new training session with the Nursing classes of combined labs so they will learn to collaborate in the work place and GET RID OF THE attitudes, learn to work as a TEAM! As a nurse I'd rather have 2 competent & compassionate CNA's that I can count on than 4-5 (which the state requires). Thanks again, this was very helpful to those thinking of becoming CNA's!
I’ve been an stna for almost 13 years!! I love how you describe being an aide.. and I’m so happy that this is the video that came up first when searching nursing assistant!! Your going to be a great nurse!!!
Wow! I can relate to EVERYTHING you said!! It's like you spoke the very words I was thinking. I've been a CNA for over 4 years and I absolutely love it.. I'm finishing up nursing school and I cannot be any happier!! I have some horror stories from my first years as a CNA.. but with The most high and learning people I survived. For me it is a requirement in my state (NC) to become a nurse otherwise I would never have considered it. But I'm glad I did. It is a very rewarding career and the pay is good if you can find facilities that are willing to pay more for your skills. Some wanna offer $9 and I truly believe that's a bit low considering the long hours and selfless service we provide. It is a very challenging career and it's not for the weak. Best wishes to you as you embark on your nursing career hun!!
Watching this was so helpful! Thank you! I’m getting ready to start my CNA classes hopefully 🙏🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I have an interview tomorrow and seeing how happy you are about being a CNA makes it even more exciting! Thank you so much Holly!
I did clinicals for my nursing class in high school and I got my CNA last month. I start my new job Monday and I needed good tips for this job. Thank you so much!
I'm about to apply to a CNA program to get my certificate, so I can start the road to becoming a nurse! I'll probably work as a CNA for a couple of months, at least, before applying to nursing school for several reasons... 1) To save money before my husband and I officially start school again, and 2) to gain a bit more "credit" when applying to nursing school (my past grades in college weren't the hottest.. didn't have a goal before) and finally, 3) because I want to build myself from the ground up. I want to understand as much about nursing as I can, and I think working as a CNA will really help prepare me for working with people so closely, especially when they're at their worst.
So are so positive and very kind hearted. And plus you so so beautiful 😍. I listened every single words from you and this make me want to go for it. Thanks you :)
I loved your video Holley. I´ve been a CNA in São Paulo , Brazil for about 20 years and we also face this kind of stuff here and it´s really sad. However it´s really rewarding and important job. Knowing that our work is absolutely crucial in the rehabilitation process of the patients is something that motivates me every day , as well as seeing them smiling at me after finishing every bed shower or any other procedures . Congrats Holley ! Keep up the good work :)
Thank you for the video. I am considering becoming a CNA but I’ve heard some negative things about changing diapers, long shifts etc. I always knew that it’s all about your attitude and that I’m sure people over exaggerate. Well ur video changed my perspective. I love helping people and I’m a really compassionate person. I think I am going to do it! Also go to school for nursing possibly. Thank you!
You are a beautiful young lady and I loved your video. So encouraging. I worked at an assistant living facility and did some similar things as you described. I never thought I could do the "brief changing" of the residents, but it wasn't so bad. Since I have a love for people, I actually loved the idea of being able to help the residents/patients. They were so dear. Today I have degree for Medical Accounting and now am considering getting a certificate or learning for a CNA. Your dear mother...9 kids, I'm not far from her. God bless you and keep up the good work :)
YOU ARE AWESOME I appreciate all nurses I’m currently in school I’m my frist year just started school I’m goin for my Lpn but gotta go through my cna course next year I’m super excited about this new journey
Wow your so likable! So pretty and no neuroticism in your voice, you just shine and are so pure about what you live in a humble way and I really appreciate that, I love that you say, “ what else WE do,” like you live to work and not just live to work. Thank you for your attitude and your tips they really helped me on my journey with working towards being a cna :)
Holley, I didn’t know you was a CNA until I came across this video! My plan is to go into nursing school next year (I didn’t get in this year) but until then I have decided to become a CNA. I am currently taking the classes and am struggling a little bit. I’m trying to find the motivation to keep pushing and this video was what I needed! You should totally make a video talking about your whole nursing career and how you got to where you are now!
You are absolutely correct, and it is stressful, and your video is very helpful.... there is more to it then wiping ass, way more to it and at the end of the day the bigger picture is your helping the elderly with everyday life.... good luck young lady and keep your head up..
I know exactly how you feel... same here, CNA (aka HCA here in Canada) on the weekend and full time 1st nursing student in a BSN program during the week. ❤❤ I absolutely love it!! I completely agree with you, I feel so much more prepared and experienced for having been a HCA for 2 years before I started the nursing program!! 👌👍
Everything about this video.... YES. This August will be my two year anniversary as a CNA and everything you said is on point. 👌🏻 Throughout the entire video I'm sitting here like, AMEN SISTER. I FEEL YOU. 😂🙌🏻
Holley, I enjoy your video you love what you do and you're a passionate, I wished I had you for my CNA when I was in the hospital you're going to make a great nurse besides you're beautiful.
I am taking care of a friends mom whenever she needs some extra help, its great money. The guy I'm dating told me about the job and i wanted to research it a bit before doing anything about it and I just have to thank you because this video was incredibly helpful. So, thank you!
Even though this video says 3 years ago I’m just now running across this video and it’s no coincidence because I’m getting to be a beginner for CNA and I’m super excited about it. Thank you for sharing I most definitely needed and loved to hear about everything 😁❤️
Hey Holley just wanted to let you know that I love your nursing school videos. I anticipate watching every single one of them. I'm a future RN as well and your videos help me get motivated to do my school work! Thank you for posting and have an amazing Friday:)
I decided to take the LPN/LVN route to get a better, stronger foundation of what it takes it to be a good nurse before going further. I kept having doubts about my decision of not going straight into the RN route, but I feel like this was what was best for me!
I started as a candy striper... And worked my way up to hospice nurse. Honestly, the hardest I EVER worked was being a CNA for 12 years. I've been in nursing for 28 years and without CNAs... There would be no REAL one on one with patients. It's not your initials behind your name, it's your caring and passion to help others in your heart. God bless you and EVERY CNA that is taking care of our loved ones. ❤️
Hi Holley! Thx for this video. I’m currently a CMA but I’m transitioning into an RN soon. I’m my state, we have to complete the CNA1 before we even apply to nursing. In my personal opinion, the students who become a cna1 first make the best nurses. Keep up the great work! 👍🏾
Thank you dear for sharing quality information, I'm a nursing student BSN and looking forward to being a CNA later, I work in a hospital I see how hard-working CNA nurses are!
I love being a CNA!! I just got into nursing school too and I am grateful for my cna training!! I feel like I won't be walking in blind because I've seen alot already. Thanks for sharing your video!
wow. must be nice. i work at a hospital and have 4 yrs of experience and make 12.69 an hour. i live in michigan and minimum wage is 8.50. i love my job, and the hospital is 100x better than the 2.5 yrs i spent in the nursing home but still, pca's and cna's deserve a hell of alot more. im thankful that most of the nurses i work with appreciate us but come on. they market cnas as making 13-15 an hour out of school and its just not true
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been thinking about taking a CNA course but the fear of failing is holding me back... I was always in smaller classes for focusing issues. Helping people is something I would love to do for the rest of my life.
I'm a junior in Highschool this year and I'm getting my Cna license in a few weeks very excited. (already work at a group home but with adults until I get my license) I love helping people:)
Its a good to be a cna before a nurse. I believe the best nurses are the one that started as a CNA.
Ronda Witt honey, you sound crazy as fuck. You can't tell nobody idea is wrong just cause you don't like it. Your opinion isn't logical though..
Being a CNA prior to becoming a Nurse helps you be a better manager of CNAs as a Nurse. All experience is going to contribute to being a better Nurse. Now there are many Nurses that are excellent and have never been a CNA.
Ronda Witt where I live you have to be a CNA before you can even get into nursing school
Nicole Gillespie chill the fuck out. What she said was right!
Golden Ma well first of all there was a comment under this one, I was talking about Ronda Witt until she deleted her comment so.. I'm chill, thanks 🤷🏽♀️
I was a CNA for a year and got my BSN and I am 24. I will always respect my CNA they’re my back bone and I will ALWAYS look out for them!
My mom is a LPN and my cousin a RN they both look out for CNA Because they started out as a CNA and know how important they are
You can't put a price on a great aide! I'm sure there are aides who say the same of good nurses
Thank you!😊
💜
❤️
How much did you schooling cost ?
I have been a CNA for 27 years now. I absolutely LOVE it. I am finally working on my pre reqs for the RN adn program. I am going to miss being a CNA.
Jessica Armstrong That's amazing, you truly can do anything you put your mind to.
Jessica Armstrong 😍😍😍😍
Being a cna it’s lovely but the pay 😂😂😂😂🤣
Lina Germilus wats funny, if u love it the pay doesnt matter and its not so bad as u make it sound, if ur interested to become a nurse just for money, ur in the wrong career, ur the kind of nurses who let patients die
Jessica Armstrong are u like 100 years old?
Totally! Check out our latest video about what CNAs do in home health :)
Have you ever thought about becoming a SOLO Medwaiver Provider. This is working with developmentally disabled children and adults
then I guess being a nurse isn't for you. Don't do it for the money you greedy child@Random dude
Good attitude dear one. Lets stay humble and compassionate no matter what. 💕
How much the course cost.
El Babalo depends where you take it
Love being a CNA but also so glad I'm working towards my RN. 💖
Amber Brotnov YOU are amazing❤❤
Amber Brotnov Wow I’m a mom of 5 also we can do it 💉👩🏽⚕️🤸🏼♂️🤸🏼♂️🤸🏼♂️
Amber Brotnov
I’m also a CNA with a blue husband : )
I’m at a Surgical Hospital and we are called Nurse Techs.
Good for you! Check out our latest video about what CNAs do in home health :)
"People just think we wipe ass." hahaha . seriously tho so true !
I wish i would have done medical assistant
Cna dont have licenses in most states
Correction, Miss Holly, you won't be where THAT nurse is standing. You will be HER BOSS. NURSES RULE!!!!
Hahaha thanks, Tabitha! :)
Just got to find the proper authority to get your License recognized in the Us
Take a ESL class. Don't just roll backwards on your degree as a RN. And thank you for coming to our country. I hope you enjoy living here
English is easy to learn, you got it girl
Melanie Dou Me too 😢
I’m doing the cna forst also to break the language understanding.
Awww yay! I am so glad you liked it! Best of luck in your course:)

I'm going into a CNA program so I can have a steady paycheck and a chance to help people. Although I'm not pursuing a future career as a nurse, I believe this would be good experience for my teaching career
How did it go? Im start a cna program soom
@@pvnchos1478 I never got to attend the program because my weight and health issues were a concern to the people in charge.
It's a bit late to comment ... but it depends what your teaching. I'd do tutoring instead
@@jessicamessica2271 As my previous somment says, I didn't get into my program, so no CNA'ing for me.
I hear ya!! I have been a CNA for 23 years, and I'm finishing up my pre reqs for the nursing program, I will be applying in Spring 2018...
How do you get over the fear of using the hoyer lift
I hope your dream comes true !
Nursing school + 9 children...God bless her 💪🏻Great video, great CNA and you will be a great RN 🙂
I absolutely loved this video! I’m a high school senior in a cna course right now and I was kind of worried because of all the negative things people say about it, but you really cleared everything up for me and helped me realize how the cnas really help the residents..I’m so excited to start! THANK YOU!!!
Same here!
Me too💯How has it gone for you?
You will be a great nurse! I'm in nursing school right now and I'm starting to feel really defeated. But that's just all part of the experience. I love nursing and I can't see myself doing anything else. Your videos help me keep going!
Thank you! I am so glad they help! We are all in this together! :)
Been a CNA for 4 years this December and I will say, unless you plan on advancing in your nursing career, its a very hard long term career.
I work as a CNA and we have to do vitals. Like every shift, we do the vitals. Our nurses only do specific vitals if a patient needs it done before a med is passed. It's neat to hear that CNA duties vary from place to place. (: Great video.
-An aspiring nursing student,
Rachel
Same, here at my hospital we do vitals
At the telemetry unit I used to work on as a PCT, our shift was as followed
Walking rounds, vitals, glucose, ambulate patient's with bleeding precautions, hourly rounding, meal and fluid intake and output, Q2 vitals on MI and CVA patients, baths, second ambulating bleeding precaution patients, empty urinal hats, urinals, foleys, NEPHROSTOMY bags, JPs, Colostomy and ILEOSTOMY bags, EGKs, Daily weights, transport patients to scheduled Xray, etc call lights, prepare next shift to have an easier shift, chart, and take the same 6 or 7 patients to the bathroom every 5 minutes with lasix push for CHF and everything else that was asked of us by RN, patient's and their family, then maybe we could leave a half hour after our shift ended
That Married Couple As a CNA in ICU during my 12 hour shifts we take vitals every 4 hours or even more depending on the patients condition
Have you thought of private care? My mother does it and makes around 15 an hour. She used to work in a hospital and made the same you did.
In California a night shift cna can earn up to $20 even more the hr and it's far less stressful then day shifts. $9 is absurd!
Brit Camp girlllll is that still applies to this day? Lol
9$?! wtf this isn’t mcdonald’s.. i make $15 😭
It would really be a great job if the facilities didn't overwhelm the staff. When I first started out in 1981 it was wonderful. I had nine patients on day shift, and only five or six were complete care, while the others just needed their bras hooked and little tasks like that. We did their hair, their nails, their make up. It isn't fun like that anymore.
A CNA is just as valuable to health care as an RN or maybe even a Dr. : )
ForgiveAndLove09 YES! Some nurses act like they're too good to even help CNAs
@@PSALMSOFSONGS They do. I worked short of help many nights with two floors of 40 people and the charge nurse went over in the day room and piled up on the couch and slept! The other CNAs were so angry and would take turns coming from their floors to help me.
@@mpaxton8991 omg! I am so sorry for that. Little do they know or even "forgot'', it's apart of their jobs to help with patients.
I teach my students that! A CNA must have pride in their work. They are the bed rock of health care. the first point of contact.
I’m a CNA and I work 12s and when you work 3 or 4 of those in a row I gets really tiring, but it is extremely rewarding
Subscribed! Your perspective is refreshing and you're going to be a phenomenal nurse.
THANK YOU:)
I work full time as a CNA and i am in the nursing program! tough stuff
Yes, for sure!
Also some RN programs make it a requirement to have CNA experience.
alexis hitchcock go for it. Don't be discouraged. 🙂
alexis hitchcock Same here, I truly want to know of Nursing is a path I want to take. Alot of ppl are saying just go into the program (I already have a college degree in psycg), they say CNA is a waste of time. But I feel that it prepares you a little
alexis hitchcock I was a patient care tech for 29 years got laid off for a year then got hired at another hospital. I'm getting burned out from it so just thinking about going into phlebotomy no lifting , cleaning ect. just draw blood and carry on
That is exactly why I'm a CNA.
Jennifer Miller I am planning to take phlebotomy and EKG classes so I won't be doing too much lifting, too.
Omg, if I can give this a thumbs up more than once I totally would. I start my classes to become a CNA soon and I now feel confident. The field definitely needs more great people like you who not only provide greatness to the patients but to their positions as a CNA. Thanks, you rock and may your journey in the field bring you success and blessings!(;
Claire Doss same here! It's hard being the youngest in my work place but it's great experience!
That's so inspiring! :) I'm nervous, but really excited because I know this is where God wants me.
Wow, you are seriously an amazing role model. Definitely subscribing.
Thanks Holley for addressing the "ass wiping" degrading remarks about the CNA job. People that make such comments don't really care about people, but are only in the field of Nursing just for the Money! Holley stay humble, as you are a kind Nurse, a true patient caregiver.
I don't care this is an old video. This video has inspired me. I agree with you completely. Thank you for posting this!!
YOU'RE SUCH A BLESSING TO EVERYONE!
I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU TO FIND A JOB
YOU LOVE AND HELP EVERYONE IN NEED OF CARE.
GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!!
I start my cna course in 2weeks :)
Matt Mcconnell how is it?
Matt Mcconnell you pass? I finished mine a couple weeks ago!
How are you doing now?
Matt Mcconnell how are you doing now? Do you like it?
How was it?
Thanks! I definitely feel a lot better about becoming a CNA first
Do not be ashamed of working the minimum, my mother refuses me to no work because she thinks it will affect my studies
Veronica Owl same here
I love the CNAs! They help us a lot as students and I find them more approachable compared to some RNs. Great video!! :)
Just started my CNA courses and I am a little nervous but wish me luck 👍🏽
How is it so far??
I can relate with so much, I'm on same path as you! So proud of you! Wishing you the best!
Thanks, Janet! :) You as well!
You're going to be a great nurse!
Love this video and you! I am currently a nursing student and work as a CNA and it is tough!
It’s 2019 I’m a senior high school student, and this information is definitely very helpful. Thank you so much !!!!
Some places have programs that will give free CNA courses. That's what I did
when you care for someone, you won't care if you have to wipe ass, or feed someone, or help someone.
This was really inspiring to me especially at the fact that I’m stressing about the skills test😫 good news tho I passed my written test which was 150 questions, thank u soooo much for this, this literally made my day and reminded me why I decided I wanted to become a C.N.A❤️❤️❤️
I've finally decided that I want to go into the medical field and you have been a huuuuge help . Thank you 💛
I feel like you have such a big heart holley
Knowing that our work is absolutely crucial in the rehabilitation process of the patients is something that motivates me every day , as well as
seeing them smiling at me after finishing every bed shower or any other procedures .
Don't give up!
You are absolutely correct, and it is stressful, and your video is very helpful.... there is more to it then wiping ass, way more to it and at the end of the day the bigger picture is your helping the elderly with everyday life.... good luck young lady and keep your head up..
I'm CNA and I feel inspired by you! You are probably an exceptional nurse by now! Bravo!
I just start listening to your channel.
I love your personality !!!
You will make a wonderful nurse!
Watching how you have bloomed from this video to now... YOU GO GIRL!!!
I am taking care of a friends mom whenever she needs some extra help, its great money. The guy I'm dating told me about the job and i wanted to research it a bit before doing anything about it and I just have to thank you because this video was incredibly helpful. So, thank you!
I'm taking the course this summer. I'm excited and nervous. Good luck to everyone pursuing a nursing career! ❤️
I wish I thought of this before finishing up my prereqs, I should have done this before... looking back, I'm just wishing that I have become a CNA
Even though this video says 3 years ago I’m just now running across this video and it’s no coincidence because I’m getting to be a beginner for CNA and I’m super excited about it. Thank you for sharing I most definitely needed and loved to hear about everything 😁❤️
Starting nursing aide 1 January 19 2021 !! Love this video definitely smooth down my goosebumps!! Will keep y’all updated !
This has helped me alot im starting my nurse aide 1 class January 17, 2018. Wish me luck.
Cassandra Barnes me too!! Can't wait!
I think it has a lot to do with the area you live. I've only worked 6 months in a hospital and I make more quite a bit more than $15 an hr
Sammie Schmall Here in California CNA's make $17-20
Amber Robin how much is your minimum wage cuz its $8.90 here...
The job postings I see for CNAs in San Diego offer 11.50 - 14.50 per hour. I wish it was 17/hr haha
I live in new york and I have been a CNA for 6 months and I make $16.50 an hour
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been thinking about taking a CNA course but the fear of failing is holding me back... I was always in smaller classes for focusing issues. Helping people is something I would love to do for the rest of my life.
I'm a junior in Highschool this year and I'm getting my Cna license in a few weeks very excited. (already work at a group home but with adults until I get my license) I love helping people:)
