    if it was glass made by a volcano it would be called obsidian.. and if there was obsidian that color, the rockhound and collector world would shit themselves.. this is NOT volcanic glass at all in any way... this is called slag glass, and its the leftovers from smelting metals. some can be super cool

    Forget the perfect sphere ones, I want one of the bumpy one they showed as they ground them into the spheres. That was much more aesthetically pleasing to me.😍

      It does say that, but the title is wrong. It's slag glass, from a furnace. Still really cool looking. When I first glanced at it, I thought it was some kind of meat, from something huge, like Jurassic Park actually happened and they were going to make brontosaurus burgers lol.

      @@stupitdog9686 That'd be a lot more work, pouring a bunch of separate dollops. Also, the workers are very good at cutting and fracturing it to size. And the leftover chunks just get rinsed off and tossed back into the furnace for the next batch.

      decorative, the rock is slag, from what i dont know can be alot, from smelting iron all the way to glassmaking just impurities

    This looks like the old slag glass used in Tiffany lamps and valuable items from the 1900s+. Not sure if it’s still in production/imported for lampshades or stained glass. I guess there’s a demand for ppl putting large red balls in their garden?

    This was how native people tapped obsidian to make stone tools and arrow heads. Knapping the stone at the right places and the pieces come off razor sharp. I learned that from reading "Clan of the Cave Bear". Jondular was a stonesman. He made all the weapons and cutting tools.

      employed at a Book Store "Stacey's" when it was released. It was one of our best sellers. That and "Dyanetics" by L. Ron Hubbard.       @@blacktiger995 I think she's referring to them using hammers to pre-shape the blocks into rough spheres. It would be similar to flint knapping, but I agree the glass does not have the same fracturing patterns as obsidian or stone.

    I don't know how so many people operate loud electrical equipment without any ear protection. Since I have made it mandatory for me to have ear protection in when operating loud equipment, I can't use one without it. It's just too loud and I don't like it.
