    It’s funny, your 3 negatives are actually perfectly ok and positives for me ! This game looks great for me.

      In all honesty it was hard coming up with anything negative about this game it’s a complete masterpiece.

      I hope so, they’ve been trying to release this for years I really hope it does come out, more content for this game is always great.

    Apparently they fixed the region searching in the new print by adding maps on all the cards.
    Agree with most. My biggest negatives are probably the long playtime which prevents it from getting to the table more often and the sometimes long downtime which comes along with that. There are many different choices to consider during a turn since everything matters so much, that big thinkers can take a while to think everything through and make their moves. And yes, there's always the "stop to read your new cards phase" 😂.
    Another thing is hat half of the map regions are pretty pointless.
    Also every aspect is so random. You might just need a specific card but it doesn't show up. You want to desperately move the fellowship but you just don't roll any right symbols. You need to recruit before sauron reaches the stronghold but you dont get those helmets! And don't get me started on the the sack of doom (hunt tile bag).
    But eventhough most times such a long playtime and strategy mixed with that much randomness don't go along well together...here we weirdy accept it and even enjoy it greatly since it does make the game much more spectacular. You will understand once the Pelargir dude has stopped an entire army.
    Amazing game.

      Some very great points there for sure and definitely depending on who you’re playing with the downtime can be long, it is one that doesn’t see much playtime for me either because of the length and setup but despite that I’ve loved every game I’ve played and it still remains one of my all time favourites. Thanks for the input :)

    Would you say that these miniatures are in good scale for D&D?

    If you could only keep one; this or Star Wars: Rebellion, which one would it be?

    • @fatherofgames9239
      @fatherofgames9239  Год назад +1

      Haha that’s like asking which arm I’d rather keep 😆 I like them both a lot and they’re different enough to justify keeping both but gun to my head I’d choose war of the ring, I prefer starwars as a theme but the combat is a lot better in war of the ring making it a little better overall.

      @@fatherofgames9239 haha I didn’t think it would be easy to pick; both games seem amazing and are “IP in a box” situations. I have and love WoTR and keep debating about SW:R… I heard the expansion helps with the combat, but this this then quite a ££ outlay to buy both! Thanks for the insight :)

    Negative that I’ve heard is if you want to paint the miniatures that because of the plastic they use that they become very sticky. So if you are going to paint them so you can tell them apart you may have a problem.

    • @fatherofgames9239
      @fatherofgames9239  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the tip I hadn’t heard that, to be honest though that’s just way too many figures to paint for me anyways. Now that’s I’ve played it so many times distinguishing between all the figures isn’t an issue for me anymore I just have to make sure to let new players be the shadow armies.

      @@fatherofgames9239 I am almost 80% of the way through painting mine, its taken me about 3 months so far and a lot of the painting has been quite monotonous (but I'm getting there!). This includes all new minis from the expansions.
      I can attest to some slight tackiness on SOME of the mini's. There doesn't appear to be much rhyme or reason to it, my Nazguls and Orcs are a bit tacky, along with an odd mini from the companions, but other than that the rest seem ok. I have done all the usual things to prepare the minis....washing thoroughly, priming, painting then varnishing and still they can be tacky. However, I'd say it only really affects maybe 5% of them, the rest are ok. For those that are slightly tacky, there doesn't appear to be any degradation in painting - i.e. flaking or peeling of the paint, they are just a bit tacky to the touch - I stored them all just open to the air on a shelf too, so they've had plenty of time to dry - if they were just bundled back into a box then maybe they could stick together and get damaged, but I don't want to do that.
      It is a HUGE effort to complete them all though and I'll be pleased when I'm done, just Rohan, Elves, Isengard and the North to go now....!

      @@stuartwilson4705 that’s strange that some are tacky and some aren’t, good for you for taking the effort to paint them all though I’m sure that will make the game look a lot better when you’re done for sure.

      It's definitely paintable. I haven't painted mine yet but my friend has painted his and it works. Not very tacky at all.

    Have you played with any of the expansions ? Do you think it needs expansions ?

    • @fatherofgames9239
      @fatherofgames9239  Год назад +2

      I’ve played with both, I personally didn’t think the game was missing anything without expansions they’re both good for sure but I typically play without them personally. I think warriors should definitely be used last of the two also and only if you’ve played several games already.

    the icons on the dice are just thematic versions of the same thing, flag, sword, helmet, palantir. How is that difficult?

    • @fatherofgames9239
      @fatherofgames9239  Год назад +4

      For sure but it did take more time for new players I’ve played this with to know what each one was because they were different, I know I’m reaching here lol I really love this game it was hard to find negatives about it.

  • @majkus
    @majkus Год назад +1

    Using 'complexity' to describe the visual distinctiveness of the minis or the choice of icons on the dice is a peculiar use of the word in a game review. I do not disagree about these art choices, but 'complexity' is misleading.

      Haha well it was a complaint that was raised by a few people I’ve played this with reading through the cards can take a while before deciding which one to play, it was honestly hard to find negatives about this game for me.
