    In the advanced video you should mention the house supply of 32 houses. If you manage to get both the browns and light blues, your objective would be to build four houses on each. That would leave only 12 houses left for all the other opponents combined. Unless you get someone really lucky, chances are you'll slowly bleed everyone dry with rents in the $300 to $400 range.
    I would never pass up buying the browns. The $60 property cost is nothing and they are very cheap to develop. They are a great cash cow, especially if you own another group.

      Agreed. I learned this the hard way when playing with some friends. One of them was nearly bankrupt and had no sets of properties. They traded 2 different colored properties to someone who could get 2 monopolies for some cash and the last brown. They placed hotels two turns later and they almost won because people were losing their go money. The crack shack gambit can be crazy frustrating lol

  • @Kululululululu

    I have a brown street strategy that worked most times. I rush to get both brown places, since they're pretty cheap and most other players don't want them. From then on it costs 50 to build a house and 200 to build a hotel- so 800 for two hotels right in the beginning of the game. It makes it up after two times of someone landing on it and if you manage to do it fast enough, it can win the game in record time, since other players need to pay you 400 or 450 right at the beginning. Even if not, it gives a very nice head start for the rest of the game- it's low risk high reward

      Those two games are the leaders so far. I've only played Catan a few times so I'd need to start forming some strategies for it. Risk isn't hard to figure out. Some of it is luck, but mostly knowing when to defend and when to blitz someone and knock them out, taking their cards. Australia and south/north America is king. Then it's just keeping a finger in the other continents so they can't draw cards.

    The problem with the housing thing is that when the people who you play with also know this, which they do in my case, then they never let go of a property, e.g if you want or buy an orange and you already have one then, my family will only sell it for over 500, and more like 1000 if you have 2, which means it is Extremely hard to get a set and most people only give someone a cards needed to get a set if you give the Same to them, so you never get a lead in development

    • @exantiuse497
      @exantiuse497 Год назад +5

      Yeah... these videos work under the assumption that the opponent doesn't understand the game. In real games people will try to prevent others from gaining monopolies and gaining one becomes highly dependant on luck. Luck in general plays a big role in this game, it isn't chess or anything where the most skilled player always wins, so it's very questionable to claim this is "how to always win at Monopoly"
      Also, in his example of a "strategic play" (where he gave the dog the orange card), he had something like 1500 worth of property, while his opponents had around 500 and 1000 in property and cash. His play was only possible because he already had a massive advantage. Surely anyone can win when he has more stuff than his opponents combined, I don't understand the point

      Anyone that sells someone a monopoly and leaves them with enough cash to buy houses or without getting a monopoly of some sort themselves are idiots, me and my friends usually only do it after we stall mate and we get bored 😂
      Also in games and not the physical board game it’s pure random and you’re at the fate of RnG and makes a luck based game even more luck based and some the rules like auctioning every property you don’t buy makes it even harder as you’re giving other players the possibility to get easy monopoly’s themselves potentially

    • @vilkku792
      @vilkku792 Месяц назад

      @@eirebhoy132 This is also my experience. No one is willing to make a trade that gives the other person the opportunity to develop, which leads to the game stalling. An important tip is to buy at least one of every color. This gives you the option to trade with others. Also remember houses are limited in the game. It's an option to not build a hotel and only 4 houses, to keep the others from making money. This is especially important when you play with house rules that give more money or extend the game. With no auctions, the game takes longer, because some streets take longer to get and prevents players to get a cheap deal. With more money, players can afford high rents and the goal is stall others.
    With the official rules, the game is actually short, so maybe insist on playing by the book and maybe make the game more fun, because bankruptcy doesn't take so long. It makes no fun when for 2 hours one player is slowly draining your money and due to more money, it takes longer and you have the feeling of maybe turning the game into your favor.

      @bobapjok4241 Год назад +29

      There is a lot here i dont think normal people realize. you should basically never buy hotels unless you cannot control the amount of houses there. preventing others from buying houses is a HUGE advantage accomplished by just building the 4 and not allowing others to build. also, you are so right about the rules. The game does not take that long as is commonly thought. It only takes so long when house rules are added (especially extra money for landing on free parking)

      THIS. It's nowhere in your videos, but what you want and NEED to win is to MONOPOLIZE the housing supply! That's why I will always go for Orange (because, duh, they're the best properties to win with), Pink (again, because it's in the most-landed strip after Jail and not so expensive to buy houses on), Light Blue _AND_ Brown, because they can be had for cheap and the cost to soak up the remaining houses is very low. Eight houses on the brown properties will set you back just $400, the cost of just two houses on the Dark Blues. If you allow someone to build to hotels, and then you soak up ALL the houses (aka, don't go to hotels, just four houses on the monopolies), when they have to sell any of the houses, they'll be down to no homes at all, making it very difficult for your opponents to get serious cash out of you or your opponents. Make sure you have space and money to buy houses the instant your opponents have to sell them to make rent. Absolutely ensure you buy up the houses as quickly as you can and there's no way you'll lose...Unless of course you get hit for the Property Improvement cards where you have to pay per house on your properties. If that gets picked up by another player who has no houses, thank your stars you didn't get it.

    I'm suprised you didn't mention getting a monopoly on housing. With only 32 houses, it only takes 8 properties with 4 houses each to completely lock the game and prevent anyone from upgrading their properties. This greatly increases the value of Brown and Blue, as if you can make "bad" trades to get them, you can build lots of houses and limit the supply. This allows only one other color set to be completed. Even if you don't have those sets... building cheap houses (and ignoring hotels) is a good way to limit the supply of houses, and players will be forced to only build a few houses each.

    Another strategy I didn’t see you cover is that if you have a whole set of properties, It would be in your best interest to just buy houses instead of a hotel. There’s only a limited amount of houses in the game. Once all the houses are taken by the players. There are no more houses to build on which means players don’t get the chance to raise their rent. (This strategy usually works when there’s more than 2 players in the game.)

    Risk is a game that may deserve your attention for a future video.
    One strategy I've seen used by a power player is to trade a final card of some color to someone who has nothing else, in order to stymie another power player. So, using the example of trading away the last orange card, one might trade that to the player who is struggling, knowing that player will put houses on it, right before the other powerhouse player has to navigate past it.

      @@whatswhat2022 I'm late but in considering tactics on *Risk*, there are things that I would like to point out mentioned or to be questioned in the future strategy guide in debunking these pointers.
      ~ 1. Everyone knows the "turtle Australia" and "SA stronghold" techniques, so I wonder in a long game if these areas can be pigeon hold since everyone is racing for these territories?
      ~ 2. (mythbusting) Best to control Asia territory if only have the iron grip in Europe territory. In personal experience and game set, Europe has 5 troups bonus and its in the better part (by logistics) of the board if bother to get Asia (despite being placed in the dangerous part of the board by looks).
      ~3. NA is actually also a good territory to hold first other than SA (4 troups bonus and 3 fronts, sweet deal!). Africa territory is vulnerable in a short game but a good stronghold in pair with SA territory in a long game.
      I'm not too sure if they're clarify well but hopefully answered. And also I've only played in random on online but rarely on docking territories traditionally.

Do not give an inch when ahead is a very viable gameplan, unless you can get even further ahead with lesser risks than what you gain. 🙂
      I have seen a lot of YT videos in a competative monopoly setting.(swiftor) and I often see players taking high risk trades when they are ahead, and are holding leverage, giving it away. And thus creating unnecessary risks on the board for themselves.

If I can get the Light Blue and Maroon properties with 4 houses each (so 12 each on each group), all the other players have to share 8 houses between them.

    Good advice. I have been playing an online monopoly-like game against the AI for a few months and I had uncovered several of these strategies. A course in statistics and probability almost 20 years ago helped. But I hadn't quite fleshed it all out yet and I certainly didn't see some of these strategies.
    One oddity I have seen in a lot of these games is how one AI would get all four railroads and nothing else and somehow managed to obtain and retain the highest cash balance right up to the end of the game. It was both mysterious and frustrating since beating them became a matter of slowly but inexorably wearing them down. After watching this video, it finally clicked for me. I like to play with max players (8 in this case). That's a heck of a lot of money supply and every player is one roll away from one of the railroads. Now I see how that builds up a monstrous bank account for that player. It's a losing strategy in the end game if the ai doesn't get any other properties, but it does insulate them from the shocks of landing on a hotel so it's at least a great strategy for surviving into the late game.
    Fun stuff! Thanks for the video
