    Hey Thanks for sharing info. Btw, you can find blue tack in Japan in Daiso actually. Its is called as "粘着タック" in English Nenchaku tack / Adhesive tack. It is in blue color and available in Daiso and Seria. Thanks!

    I learned to let the pearl dry in a wooden clothespeg. On one side we drilled a hole in or sawed a line to the middle to stick the Pin through, the other side had a little dent from a round bur to hold the pearl firm :)

    Brilliant!!! I have always wondered the proper way of adding pearls. I have seen people use super glue and thought um yeah no! 😆 thanks Chris for another top tip!! Now I can confidently work with pearls🙏💖🙏

      Yeah super glue is very sticky but its so brittle. Itll break again in no time.

    Couldn't really see the post when you were putting the glue on. If it is a real cultured pearl, acetone to wipe it with? What else can be used to hold it together tightly? Is that necessary as long as the pearl is all the way onto the post?
    Thank you.

    Chris, there are never enough videos on how to do great things - but I suggest you check out Soham Harrison (on RUclips), I think he's done no fewer than 20 to 30 "gluing on pearls" videos (for various designs and projects). Still going to listen to YOU! I really love your channel. Peral dealer that buys zillions of Tahitian pearls, suggests "Rhino Glue" emphatically. Are you familiar with that adhesive?

    Thank you! I’ve been asked to set a set of pearls onto studs for a family member. The glueing help is sooo appreciated! Do you have any advice on drilling the pearls out? Keep up the videos! I’m really enjoying your content!

    • @DiamondMounter

      You should probably use a pearl drill. Normal metal work ones can chip the shell. Although its possible to start with a very fine drill then open it up with a diamond burr without damaging the edge of the hole

    I use seperate bags for every tube of glue and hardener, to prevent the fumes interacting - and to not needing to throw both tubes out, if one of them should get a "folding crack" (I don't glue very often, and have experienced old two components not working well). So try not to take chances with things, that are worth "a lot".

    Is the epoxy/glue strong enough to hold the pearl in place on a ring without using a peg?

    • @DiamondMounter
      @DiamondMounter  Год назад +1

      I imagine it will glue on quite strongly but it may not last a long time. Rings get banged about quite a bit

    would it help to scuff up the post and cup before gluing

  • @FatKidBrody
    @FatKidBrody 3 года назад

    Noticed you didn't twist your pearl peg I always put a twist in my peg.it increases the surface area for a better grip. It's how I was taught.

    • @SWINGERINTO
      @SWINGERINTO 3 года назад

      It does not. If you twist your wrist, your arm does not increase surface area. If you rough the surface or serrate it, you increase surface area.
      Twisting the metal means that the glue can't just slip straight off.

    • @DiamondMounter
      @DiamondMounter  3 года назад

      @@SWINGERINTO Yes I usually rough up the inside of the cup and post also sometimes. The glue can key in to it

    • @insederec
      @insederec 2 года назад

      I'm careful about pegs because they can be brittle and break. Never say never. Much easier to take a bur and cut notches, I feel.

    Years ago there was a white material similar to shellack that was by far the best cement for pearls. You melted it onto the cup & fixed the pearl immediately. I currently use Aroldite, but was thinking of trying one of these glues that require a UV light to harden.

    • @DiamondMounter
      @DiamondMounter  3 года назад

      I think I may have some of that! Its a light cream colour and is very hard but melts at a low temperature. I was given it by an old guy who had been a jeweller for 50 years when I was starting my apprenticeship
