I kept hoping for a G310GS Adventure, with larger fuel tank, upgraded suspension and tubeless spoke wheels. The G450GS is most of that, although it apparently has a 14 liter fuel tank that is slightly larger but still too small for an ADV bike. The F450GS is also the same weight of the G310GS with 14 more HP that will allow it to cruise more comfortably on the highway. It also has a big color TFT display, ride modes and all of the miraculous electronic safety enhancements. This looks like a big winner. For a couple of decades, BMW and the rest of the Big Moto cartel ignored our pleas for a lightweight off road oriented ADV bike because they wanted to force us to buy their heavy and expensive mid and full size ADV bikes. Even when forced to make small ADV bikes, they crippled them and marketed them as entry level bikes to get new customers on the upgrade path to their more expensive heavy bikes. The emerging Chinese manufacturers aren't part of the Big Moto cartel so they listened and did their best to make the bikes we wanted - The Kove 450 Rally and CF Moto 450 Ibex. The industry buzz and lost market share is forcing the Big Moto cartel to finally manufacture the bikes we want but they didn't want us to have. BMW Motorrad: I'd like my F450GS in Triple Black, please.
I mostly agree, however I don't think the manufacturers ignored the pleas. Product development takes time. If you design and build a new bike from the ground up, including a new motor, that takes over 4 years. So BMW decided to make this bike in 2020 at least. If not even earlier. What they showed here is a mostly production ready bike that only lacks type certification and a few little details. So they're basically at the end of the development phase.

Riders have been begging manufacturers for a powerful lightweight off road oriented ADV motorcycle for at least 20 years and they kept pushing the R1150GS that became the R1200GS, R1250GS, and then R1300GS. The BMW mid size ADV bikes similarly went from 800 to 850 to 900. The G310GS was deliberately a bit too small to comfortably cruise on the interstate (although surprisingly doesn't seem to mind being rung out at 7500 RPM in 6th gear for a couple of hours), it was feature lacking, and had too small a range to be a *real* GS. Other moto companies did the same, with the KLR650, Versys 1100, Honda Africa Twin and TransAlp, Suzuki V-Strom 650, 800 and 1050, etc. Their ADV bikes were either big and bloated, or a bit too small and deliberately crippled. We were denied the unicorn ADV bike for DECADES. BMW seems committed to getting the F450GS to market ASAP, and that's admirable. Apparently, the design is mostly finished and it'll be a 2025 model. I'm not sure, but I've read that the engine, new to BMW, is a Chinese knockoff of a Kawasaki 500 engine, with a new BMW logo on the cast engine cover. If that's true, it doesn't require four years to develop that. When asked about the new engine at EICMA, the BMW rep was clearly circumspect, as if he couldn't say that BMW had developed the engine and was instead doing what almost every motorcycle manufacturer now does, using a generic clone engine in their new bike to reduce development time and cost.
i wonder if its not the same engine at kove / cf moto ? given that BMW are now outsourcing some of their motors from China??? just speculating not fact.
Concept bike, unfortunately it's not going to look like that when released to the public, it's most likely going to look a lot uglier, like most bike do when they are available to the public.

This is the bike of the show for me - totally wicked looking! Sounds amazing so must have that 270 crank and the styling is spot on. This 48bhp could be the real world most fun, small, adventure bike ever.😃 Can’t wait for its arrival in the UK in 2025 as they’ll surely sell by the boat load.👍
BMW is making a big secret out of the twin firing order, claiming it has never been seen on any production bike. And yet they let you start it. It is a 245° crank (or 115°, depending which way you measure) +/- 5° from the audio (50ms for one 720° cycle, second ignition after 16ms in the sample i looked at).
Very smart business move because the 450 bracket is already very much occupied and to hit the shore head on with a single cylinder is probably unwise. But this is different.
That bike looks incredible and the engine sounds smoooooth. Would be cool to see a 650cc class version of this. A bit more power without being too crazy heavy.
Cool upgrade over the 310 GS. Friend of mine owned that bike, and I always felt it was just too lackluster. I don’t like too much power but I definitely don’t like not enough power. This seems like an awesome and needed upgrade.
it's annoying though that everyone is making new 400/450/500 models but they all follow the A2 regulations and they can't go further to 48hp/175kg. They're all the same. Just make a "better" 450 that can also be depowered for people with A2 license.
Also other countries follow the A2 model, but they dont have an option to limit a more powerful bike. So these 4-500cc bike will always be kneecapped by A2 requirements unfortunately

Experienced riders are unfairly frustrated by these damn A2 restrictions- manufacturers should build in a simple de-restriction kit that dealers can update/remove for full licence holders. I’d love this at 55 - 60bhp.
Its definitely tricky to think about what bike next. I feel like this will sit around the 10-12000 EUR/GBP mark without all the optional extras. The Suzuki DRZ, the new fantic/kove/cf moto/aprilia options make it a tight market for people that want to ride trails and a bit of road

Disagree. I come from a third world poohole and we have the shittiest roads more shitty than “offroad” routes in Europe/ US. 21 inches is overkill. You actually want slightly lower diameter wheels to have performance on dry rock/ broken asphalt and let the suspension do it’s job.
@carlosandleon overkill is exactly what we want in offroad performance. Every dirtbike on earth and every serious ADV bike has a 21" front wheel because it's objectively better.
650-800cc boxer GS in slightly smaller, lightweight chassis with low center of gravitt fuel tank and good 24cm+ suspension would be perfect adv for bmwe
BMW F450 looks amazing. Need to know why top rack plate is installed on the pillion seat. Does this bike don't have a dedicated pillion seat and option to add top rack plates separately for the top box like other adv bikes such as 310 GS, suzuki vstorm?
I trust what the reviewer from England say's-if he is interested in the bike, then it must be good-if he's excited about the bike & likes it, then again it must be a good bike. It looks amazing to me-frame, chassis, styling, 450 twin (48 hp it must be reving in excess of 8,500 rpm), Sounds & look of the Akropovic is perfect. I think by looking at it that it has an off road bias-suspension, tubeless spoke rims. The weight at 175 kg wet is perfect which puts it inline with Triumph Scrambler 400X. It will be interesting to see how it cope's as an all round bike for going to work-weekend rides-trips away & off road trails, also what pull it has down low-mid for difficult sections like river crossings so it doesn't get bogged down especially with softer bottom to the river where you have to grunt your way out. Seat height will be the other factor-I think having an adjsutable seat height or other seat height options is the way to go so your market is more diverse. Definitly more off road focus than the 450 MT & the Himalayan 452. Will the motor be strong enough to do adventure riding or longer distance is an unknown.

Very nice. Could be very successful if the reinterpretation and transition from concept to production goes well and the bike ends up well sorted and well-appointed. Brand power can only go so far with offshore manufacturing and, with a soft market and competition having gained some inertia, BMW needs to temper the desired profit margins to generate success.
Dont want to be a downer but, do we really need another 415lbs 450 adv bike? Plenty of options out there now, and most are heavier than the kove 800x, as would be this one.
Currently riding 310GS now. But I wouldn't mind having a bit more power and still lightweight. However, this one looks super tall. Wonder if they would make a short version, else I am out.

48 NM & 48 PS + low RPM power has to be a parallel twin. This is what the tuareg 457 will be.
F means parallel twin in bmw speak.
