    Also, be very liberal with the diatom powder in feed, on ground, in coop. It absolutely will not harm your chickens but it shreds worms.

    Suggestion: take a small prescription bottle, pour some ivermectine, then sell what's left (most of the bottle). Might get your whole twenty back and even have some in reserve.

    Thank you. I'm dealing with this now and like you say, I'm frantically researching. I learned a lot by searching out images of worms and worm eggs or segments in their poop. At first I thought gapeworm but now I'm seeing little segments of dark brown the shape of rice so leaning towards tapeworm or roundworm which is treated by a different "off label" medicine for goats. Would you be able to share the chicken group that has been most helpful. I'm in N. Texas smallish town and no Avian vet near. Thanks again. Great information and very clear information.

      Hi! I’d look up backyard chickens, there are multiple forums that are great. I’m not on any currently but I feel like there’s also a forum called the barnyard. The San Antonio area group in Facebook is great too! ✌🏻❤️🐓

    Great video! Good ideas on the spices! I haven't had any problems with worms...(fingers crossed) I use the DE a lot. But we're suppose to get rain, freezing rain & snow tonight & tomorrow...ugh....I like the snow for a short bit, but definitely not the ice...ugh! So I'm not using any DE right now. Just ACV, powdered garlic, kelp, probiotics, electro lights (I rotate) (they don't like raw garlic...🙄 picky chickens)

    A great video and thanks for telling us about it. My hen had gape worm and I didn’t know what to do about it and she died so I half to dose all my back yard hens 8 to be exact before they all suffer 👍

      Oh thank you for your kind words. I’m so sorry about your hen ❤️ I know I feel so much guilt for losing a few girls before I knew better. But now we know and we can go and do better for our flock. ✌🏼❤️🐓

    Sara, thank you for this video. I had a sick chicken who I was trying to diagnose, decided it might be worms, and I spent HOURS trying to sift through all the information online to (1) figure out how to treat her and (2) find a store near me that sold treatments. The information online was confusing and overwhelming, so I appreciate you sharing your research and findings. I ended up using a product called WRMClear and she started improving a little bit over two days, but I lost her to a predator! (I had to go out of town for 1 day and had a friend come close the coop door that night. I came home the next morning and she was missing! I think she was too weak to go up the ladder and must have stayed in the run that night and my helper didn't notice she wasn't in the coop when she closed up. So now I'm wondering about something. I only noticed the symptoms in the one chicken (and didn't see worms in any poop) yet everywhere I've read it says that if one chicken has worms they all probably do. Now that my sick chicken is gone should I give everybody the ivermectin just to be sure, or could I wait to see if I notice any worms in poop or any sickly behavior in the other girls? I wouldn't want to medicate them unnecessarily. Thank you.

      Hi! I’m so sorry for your loss, I’m proud of you for all the love and care you did for her. I agree that in this case you believe you had a confirmed case of worms so I would treat everyone. If you use the ivermectin make sure you set a reminder to repeat the dose when it says so that you catch all of the worms and all of the lifecycles. You can do this preventatively up to once every six months if you feel it is necessary or you could only do it as you see more confirmed cases. I hope this helps ❤️

      @@realsimplemama what did you decide to do about the eggs you collected while the chickens were on the ivermectin?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 года назад

      Hey! We ate em 😄😄😄 I wouldn’t sell to others but we worm maaaaybe twice a year (it’s almost always been less than that) and we don’t live on farmland or anything. Yes there is a risk but to me it was so negligible that I didn’t lose sleep over it.

    You may want to buy more ivermax before June 1 bc they are taking antibiotics and things like ivermectin off of shelves as of June 1 and you won't be able to get them unless see a vet first

    Hi Sara!
    What is the name of the chicken chapter you are a part of, here in San Antonio?
    I tried to look online but didn’t see a website, only Facebook options. I don’t have any other social media, so I wouldn’t be able to benefit from that option.
    Thank you! And thanks for putting out such great chicken content. I rely on you, first, before I get more info from other content providers.
    God bless you and your family, and all those lovely ladies.

    Hi Sara, Just turned a year yesterday of being a new chicken mama.I have watched several of your videos.
    I have dealt with sour crop that kept coming back to my "Head Chicken" Loretta. She is a Blue Orpington. I just recently found out my girls all have worms. They have hairworms and roundworms.
    My flock consists of 2 Barred Rock, 6 orpingtons, 2 bannies (Bantam) and one cockerel. My question is;
    I only gave my big girls 3 drops of ivermectin, Bantam 2 drops and the roo and my Buff orpington 2 (they are youngin'.) That was last night. Apparently per your dosage, They should have received more. Can I give them more today? My orpingtons are big but skinny now because of weight loss due to my ignorance of not checking for worms sooner. They are all doing ok but my spangled Orpington is pretty weak. I don't want to loose my babies. It was lack of knowledge not neglect. I am on every chicken board I can find to further my education of chickens.
    Please let me know! I am really worried now that I didn't give them enough and they might die

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  2 года назад

      Hey hun! Don’t worry. Yes I would give the rest of the dose today. And remember that you have to dose them again in two weeks (to kill any worms that might just be eggs right now) - when you do that second dose make sure it’s big enough all at once. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! Email me if you need more help - theMama@realsimplemama.com and happy chicken tending anniversary! You’re doing great and it’s all gonna be ok. ✌🏼❤️🐓

      Hi Arturo. Sometimes I feel that way when I watch RUclips video - I’m here for the lesson; just get to it.
      BUT, if you have seen any of her other videos, she is very respectful of our time and puts out quick, 5 minute videos, most of the time. This topic, however, requires more time and some of us really appreciate her efforts.
      God bless you and have a wonderful life.
