      But shopping at Walmart makes the man the money. Goodwill is a nonprofit organization. Anything you donate and they sell goes right back into their mission. Their mission is to train adults with disabilities to go out into the working world. Then there are disabled adults that can’t learn how to go out into the working world so goodwill offers adult daycare so care givers can go out and work. I know people give goodwill a bad name but if you only knew and asked for a tour you might chance your mind. Please don’t come at me with how much the CEO makes. Every goodwill has their own area and believe me when I say the president of the keystone area in pa. Doesn’t make a million dollars that’s just ridiculous. Please reconsider when you want to donate the goodwill has a great mission.

      Goodwill sold a a gallon sized bag of mostly broken but still usable crayons my mom donated to them for $40 once. My mom saw them price it at $40. it was not worth $40. It was the easiest way to get rid of crayons my twin brother and I collected throughout our entire childhood when we no longer wanted them. No other thrift store would take them but i just hoped they lowered the price on those crayons because no one would pay $40 for mostly broken crayons.

    Of course they watch these videos. The surge of resellers from Covid have caused the jump in prices. They saw how much money was being left on the table and want that for themselves. We found a way to capitalize on a business and they then pivoted to benefit from us. Sad these stores get greedy. It’s not like resellers are making millions off their donations. Some people are just getting by. The problem with local thrift stores like the Goodwill selling hats for $10 is people think well it sells on the internet for that; maybe we should price for that in the store. Yet they forget to take into account the local and limited used market. Those $10 hats will either sell marked down or will end up in the Goodwill Bins selling for a fraction of the $10 to someone who is going to flip it online. Reseller's or RUclipsrs did not do this, inflation and expensive overhead did it. Note: Reseller are trying to make a living to supporting their families by working hard, its not as easy as it looks, but you are tuning your own business' which is rewarding. Doing video content as well is much more work than reselling, it takes lots of time to edit and put out good videos.

    I was told by my local Goodwill manager that the videos of resellers has caused corporate Goodwill to make changes. Starting January 7th all donated items are to be sent to the main store to have workers use google lens and if items are worth anything they are to be put on Goodwill auction site. Also there will be no more store sales, there is going to be $5.00 off when you spend $30.00 but you have to spend $30.00 at one shot. No more discounts or color sales. Also they are considering getting rid of the bin stores and selling pallets of items for $30.00 a pallet with something good on the outside of the pallet to entice buyers. When this happens I hope all resellers avoid all the Goodwill stores then maybe they will realize they are going to loose all of our business.

    What they don't realize is that their market is limited to the local community. You can't charge premium online prices for dirty, untested stuff. I mean, I guess you could, but no one is likely to buy it. Resellers also buy a lot of stuff that most people just don't go after, and if they raise the prices and its at a point where we can't profit, they simply just don't make the sale. Thrift stores are just meant to be cheap. No one is going to Goodwill to pay full retail price, its just not the way it is

Usually that is an untapped area, but someone found a vase that sold for $107,100 at auction about 100 miles from me, now everyone is buying everything regardless of margin. My margin rule is 10-1 price versus sold price on most items but goes down as the value of the item goes up.

    My sister does a lot of ceramics. I think what you had ( the unpainted decorations) was called Greenware. It has a Chalk feel to it. You paint it first then put it into the kilm to fire it up. Finished product is called ceramic and is glazee. I could be missing a step in the middle

    • @cindinitz1522
      @cindinitz1522 Год назад +2

      Greenware is clay that hasn’t been fired yet, bisque after the first firing, then they are white. Can be painted with acrylics or glazed and fired again for the shiny glazed finish. But those don’t appear to be ceramic. Ceramics are slip (clay) poured into a mold and emptied after allowing time to setup. Then they are hollow, no holes in the bottom of those figurines. Maybe a type of plaster or chalk.

      @pnw-coast Год назад +2

      Yeah. There are so many videos with titles like that, no surprise that Goodwill managers would watch some of them. Of course, it's also worthwhile to remember that Goodwill are regional, so management for a store in Texas can differ from management for a store in Arizona (for example). There may be some regions that do not care about the videos, but it would be ridiculous for resellers to complain about Goodwill raising prices when there are numerous videos showing that things they sell in the stores can be sold online for more. Management is supposed to maximize profit, so that money can be used to fund their charity programs.

    Good video, thanks for the content! Always enjoy watching resellers going through items. Everything sellers are so much fun to watch.
    What I've noticed with clothing is that brand-wide bolos are becoming more and more rare...resellers have flocked to popular brands and mass resold them. Regular old J Crew & Ralph Lauren used to sell for a profit no matter what it was, for example; now it's mostly not worth picking up.
    These are brands everyone who resells at any amount knows about, and noobs will pick up all of it thinking its valuable (especially RL).
    Honestly, I don't think Goodwill is going to suffer if the majority of resellers quit buying. The only thing the prices are doing is making it more difficult for run-of-the-mill & part time resellers. People who've been doing it for decades and/or are niched down in specific categories can still go in and grab items to make money with.
    Pricing a hat at $10 means you can't just go and buy all the hats and still make a profit; you have to actually know which ones are worth money, or stand there and look every one of them up. It's STILL worth paying $10 for a hat that will net you $50, and a good clothing reseller will still buy it. Joe reseller will pass on it, so it only helps the experienced resellers.
    The market is flooded with casual resellers right now. I believe seller count on eBay almost 10x after CoVid, so the higher prices can only serve to separate the wheat from the chaff and eliminate the lower hanging fruit.
    Also, the hats went up 1000% if they went up from 1 to 10...just to nitpick ;)

    I call them Ill Will for good reason. Ten bucks for a HAT? What happened to helping the Disadvantaged? People yell about resellers, but resellers are often traditionally the disabled or retired, and regardless just trying to earn a living. Meanwhile, the Ill Will jacks up prices and in my area sends anything worth buying to online sale for close to full retail. They send the store junk and mistakes (with resellers hunting the mistakes). Hats here run around $5, but they're few and far between for anything even worth the $5. I've found used jeans for $12, which is ridiculous. Pants, nice shirts.... all gone. Land's End? Try shirts starting at $10 - no good for resale. I ran into two resellers (I used to be one but got out and am glad I did.) today and both had their hands empty. We won't see a yard sale until the end of April or the beginning of May, so it's estate sales and thrifts in the meantime, but those thrifts aren't looking too thrifty.
