Well from this video, i can honestly say that you have no idea what it’s like for men and women in the FDNY ems. Im an a active fdny emt working in the South Bronx and I can attest that alot of the shit depicted in the movie is spot on. Yeah not all calls are fucked with a shit ending but the movie would not get it’s point across if it included lighthearted jobs. That part where you speak of the movie only having minority patients is kinda bs considering the fact that alot of areas in NYC are predominantly minority, especially brooklyn bronx and queens. Alot of the reviews on this movie gives it a bad image as it being a bad movie. The book it was based off of was never action packed or meant to be an action film. The point of the movie is to highlight the mental toll that this job takes on people. Not everyone is going to get the subject matter. You have to have lived it in order to understand it.
20 years as a paramedic. Worked some urban areas. There’s inaccuracies, yeah, but those emotions are real. This movie isn’t that far from real life. It’s years of exposure crammed into a 2 hours, but many of those experiences really do happen.
I haven’t seen the movie, yet. But I’ve been a Paramedic for 15 years. I’d like to make another comment after watching, but I think there’s some value in commenting before watching. Initially, I think the assessment of not believing that these professionals would be so cruel to each other is unfortunately naive. Healthcare workers are seriously cruel to each other in general, and in EMS specifically. A supervisor taking the side of someone who’s been in the job longer over someone who’s brand new is tragically real. Regardless of the infraction. That’s just the truth. The turnover rate in this field is ridiculous. Supervisors just want people to show up. If you’ve got a terrible person that “shows up” vs. a rookie who might quit at the first sign of difficulty, that supervisor is unlikely to take the side of the new guy. It’s aweful and perpetuates the cycle. Survivor bias. The other point though, is that, yes. Too gritty is unrealistic. These guys do have fun at work and do go to calls that are seriously low stakes. But a movie can’t really communicate how much the serious stuff infects your brain in ways that you can’t anticipate. In a two hour run time, showing the actual ratio of serious to rediculous calls makes it seem like this job is just fun and sleep. It isn’t. The numbness of not feeling like this story moved the characters forward is analogous to these real life people feeling like they are numb cogs in a wheel that nobody cares about. Unfortunately, even though having not seen this film yet, I KNOW that people will still not care about the lives and experiences of the people that serve on ambulances. Firemen have the luxury of hundreds of years of hero worship, same with cops. EMS are seen as the garbage men of healthcare. A means to an end.
20+ Years of service i ln EMS/Rescue as a Paramedic! We have to learn to be somewhat twisted at times in order to keep some bit of sanity! There is a Fantastic Sense of Family within most the Time EMS Community. Yes I have a dark sense of humor! Others may think we are just horrible for things we find funny. Down deep though most of us Care so much that we have to make ourselves laugh so we do cry outwardly! Amos do t know we cry inside a lot. It takes a special person to be a Medic! The pay is horrible! Your not given the same respect as FIREFIGHTERS n Police Officers most the time! There are literally more of us that are killed yearly in the line of duty than Fire and Police COMBINED! It’s a Huge responsibility to carry! But, there are far more good times than bad! It’s a rewarding job! I just wish EMS would get the recognition thay so desperately deserve! Just this past few months Tennessee passed a bill or law that d state ms PTSD a job related issue for FIREFIGHTERS! It saddens me that they didn’t include EMTs n Paramedics!!!! Honestly, the Medical calls are mostly handled by EMTS N MEDICS so buffering of PTSD is as great and in most cases far Greater due to their closeness to the injured and having to make lif and death decisions out there so quickly while under great stress is just unbelievable! I’ve been shot at, attacked l, beat just all sorts of things but th public hasn’t a clue! IF YOU HAVE ANYONE YOU LOVE AND APPRECIATE in this field please help others be more aware of what they do out there! Please urge your Mayors, Council members, Senators , Governors and Lawmakers to pass laws covering all Public Service Employees/Retirees with access to Health Care and Benefits for PTSD! Also, to get this covered under disability for those who are in need!!!
@@MovieMuseOfficial I’ve been in EMS for 10 years in both private and Fire. In the EMS profession especially on the private side providers can be really cruel to one another. The dog in the locker was really extreme by today’s standards but what you have to remember is the movie is based off of a book that takes place in the 1990s. In the 90s I know of places where that absolutely would’ve flown based on crazy stories I’ve heard from older guys
In NYC no this doom in this movie is real- you say too edgey hah talk to people working fdny right now this movie is way more realistic and exactly as it is right now
@@MovieMuseOfficialthe person who commented hadn’t even seen the movie yet. It may have been dark but to me thats what the point of it is. The job isn’t pretty and there isn’t a lot of happy endings for us on and off the job. I thought it was a great representation of the stresses you deal with on daily basis being and emt or medic
Yes, that's a bandage on my hand. Thankfully the medical response was less harrowing than it is in this movie.
bandage? god help
us

Anyone not depressed going in will be need meds when it's over. This movie was an absolute mess and there is absolutely zero reason to watch it.
Lmao welcome to the world of EMS

Thanks for watching. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about what was stuffed in Ollie's locker once you've seen it.

After 6 years in EMS I think the grit and darkness and cruelty which goes unnoticed by the management is the most realistic aspect.
Ff/paramedic here and I’d rather have a dead dog stuffed in my locker than some of the shit that’s happened to me lol

I did... I even had another commenter (a paramedic of 15 years) agree that "too gritty" is unrealistic. Nevertheless, thank you for watching!
@@MovieMuseOfficialthat medic is probably full of shit and works in staten island.
@@MovieMuseOfficialfdny emt now in the bronx. This movie is spot on for the most part.

Its depressing just like being a paramedic lol
Word
Well... This movie is just ok and is the best tribute to paramedic I've ever seen in my life.
Wanting to "turn the gritty down" means you have no business reviewing real movies.
Real life is gritty.
Stick to your day job.
😂 Charming. You seem to have mistaken the word "down" for "off," though.
This movie is shit
Stupid unrealistic movie
Pretty legit imo. The medicine can ALWAYS be better… the reality of the darkness faced by medics, this is spot on.
great movie
This review has no value
Thanks for watching! 🙂
