In this video, Mike from Modelmakers Inc. demonstrates the removal, by hand, of both fine and deep scratches in acrylic, using wet sandpaper and buffing compound.
These Videos are so informative and helpful! thanks a tonne. i make silicone molds with acrylics and they get scratcehd up once in a while..this helped a lot in fixing that!
Have an acrylic panel for my PC and I'm gonna try to make it look new again, scratches aren't deep at all I can't wait to see it looking spotless again thanks
thats awesome . I build an acrylic tank and now need to polish it and remove some glue marks. 400 sandpaper to 2000 or would you recommend just 400 and then novus 3 like shown in your video. Thanks
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but will this work on lucite furniture ?? I found a lucite table w some minor scratches and was wondering if I can make it prettier
So I accidentally scratched my dry erase white board with scissors while opening it. Is there a homemade way to get rid of it. I can see a black scratch on it
I was looking at this product at Home Depot, and I was wondering if it would work for my situation. I have a client that has a bunch of acrylic sheets covering their windows. We live in the Greater New Orleans area, so we have a lot of storms and of course hurricanes. Regardless, the sheets have a lot of Sun and algae damage. I have figured out how to use a polishing compound to remove the baked on algae, but there are still a lot of scratches on there. I do not want to sand them, due to their already 1/4 inch or less thickness. I feel that removing material will compromise their integrity and make them almost useless and flimsy or may even cause them to become brittle if I use a machine that generates heat. So now I'm pretty sure that after I remove the surface contaminants, that this product will actually remove the Sun damage scratches and yellow/hazy appearance and will not alter the integrity of the sheets. My only concern is that they only carry the 1 and 2. I am not sure if those two will be able to remove the deeper Sun damage. But even if it does 90% of it, that is a lot better than it is now.
Amuses me that people over that side call everything 'sandpaper' when the abrasive is anything but 'sand'. Useful vid though. Not sure if novus is available in UK?
This video really shows how to remove scratches from plastic. I only wish Mike told how long each step took to do or there was a continuous timer running so I knew how long each step took. I've tried his method to remove a lot of scratches from a phono dust cover with limited success. Some scratches are quite deep. I can easily feel them with my fingernail. Those scratches I wet sanded with 400 grit. After much buffing with #3 and #2, my dust cover still is not near as clear as I was hoping. Maybe I need to get comfortable, put some good music on and spend the afternoon polishing on it.
You mean acrylic? If they're not terribly deep, yes. Try it. If it works, great, but if it turns out that the scratches are indeed too deep for novus alone to make them disappear, then you can wet sand and then novus again. At the very least, polishing compound (novus) will will make scratches less noticeable, by clarifying them. For other types of plastic (most of which are softer than acrylic) I'd recommend trying it first on a patch that won't be seen if possible.
Hello I don’t know if you are still seeing this but I’m trying this method on my anime acrylic stand that has a scratch in it and it removed the scratch but the sandpaper scratches are gone what should I do?
I have used half of the heavy and light scratch remover WITH an orbital polisher. This product is the most ineffective product I’ve ever purchased. ZERO impact!!! I have pictures.
tht looks like you made it clear but it isn't, not even close. Get an LED strip and put it on the edge and turn the lights off. They will stick out like a sore thumb
Very informative....I'm trying to restore the luster of an old plastic TV and this gives me ideas.
How did it go?
Exceptionally useful video for all who have acrylic aquariums.

What your results on pc?
@@faizeefaiz2142it's only been 9 months. He'll eventually get around to it. That being said, I'm waiting on that update myself.
This is exactly what I did to restore a set of Ludwig Vistalite drums. it works great they came out looking nearly new.

Do I have to buy all three then ?
I wonder if flame polishing would work or if the surface would be rippley.
Awesome video
Yes considering he did that with a straight face.
Super helpful. Thank you!
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but will this work on lucite furniture ?? I found a lucite table w some minor scratches and was wondering if I can make it prettier
All Lucite is acrylic but not all acrylic is Lucite.
This product won’t DO anything except take your money.

No you need to get a refund.
Does anyone know it I can use these products on a black acylic shower pan???
What is a good cloth for this ? Novus mates wipes are expensive and hard to find for me.
This product doesn’t even work with an electric polisher.
just what i was expecting
Will Novus remove swirl marks on plastic surfaces?

This works on NOTHING.

Do not use this product. This is another you tube video fantasy!
Where can I buy these products in the USA
you can get it direct from novus novuspolish.com or from various plastics distributers, or from amazon if you want
I hope the Nobs people pay you well. I followed your instruction to a T and ruined the item - it had a large scratch now it’s damaged beyond use.

AVOID THE ADVICE OF "USE PAPER TOWELS".. NEVER USE PAPER TOWELS OF ANY KIND..
I watched the video twice and I didn’t hear him mention paper towels… unless I missed it
@@Rael0505 you missed it at 0:58
There is an expert everywhere!
@@Rael0505 he even named a brand.
Agreed. That's going to add to what you're trying to get rid of.
That scratch was still there. Clearly visible.
I zoomed in and don’t see anything
Absolutely - I bought the whole “kit” but luckily from Amazon. Sending it back.

Absolutely! This product is bath water.
