Bear in mind that at the time you’re watching this video, the situation may have had evolved and some of the companies that are presented in the video are already completely gone and some others should probably be added to the list. Once things get back to normal, we will make another video clearly stating the damage the pandemic did on the aviation industry.
Some very famous names will make the list of this Top 10 such as FlyBe, Norwegian Air Shuttle, and others so make sure to watch the video until the end to discover them all. Not only you will have a list of these airlines, but I will also give you a quick historical background to emphasize the other reasons that led to these companies' collapse.
I’m fully aware that behind these companies collapses there’re flight crew members, cabin crew members, airport staff, office members, mechanics, families, friends, and people’s lives being involved. That’s why we’re thinking about them all and we’re sharing our deepest support.

Thank God.
Because your current "jokes" aren't funny and the cutesy clips are unprofessional.
Your core content is good but it's presented by a 7th grader.
The question is not about the companies but the people who lost their jobs, so the answer is all of them !
As a flight attendant for 33+ years starting my humble beginning with Eastern Airlines, Northwest Orient and now Delta I wouldn’t like to see ANY airlines disappear it would hurt a lot of people not to mention airline enthusiasts like me wishing everyone all the best and like always FLY SAFE..😊😊
I miss Notthwest
Would love Norwegian Air to recover I flow with them twice to the USA once from Belfast and second from Dublin I loved them they served nice food and their staff were very nice
Always heard only good stuff about Norwegian's Long haul flights. Thank you for your comment!
They back with Flyr
@@Top10Aviation i flew to Florida from London with Norwegian, they were great
They have recovered
Agree on Norwegian - excellent Airline! Hope to fly them soon.
Ask 100 Americans about Miami Air and 99 of them will say that they have never heard of the company.
I'm surprised Thai Airways wasn't included, they are a major airline and are in the top ten
yes, until now it still no way out
I really need avianca back
And today, in January 2020 the Norwegian gouvernment is giving Norwegian Airlines a bailout to fight the possibele bankrupcy, they might still make it, but on a smaller scale.
Yes but on the other hand they completely gave up on their long-haul flights 😕 Plus Wizz Air is getting agressive on expanding in Norway, eating a lot of Norwegian's market. Let's see how all this turns out...
2021*
@@Top10Aviation I think Wissair is trying too hard to expand it’s fleet in Norway.

Next do a video on how people have to train to become a commercial pilot, i've really been wanting to know. Thank you!
Congrats haha!
I'll do that, no problem! 👍🏻
Thanks for the info
You're welcome buddy!
Philippines Airlines has since filed for bankruptcy a month or 2 ago.
Just found this channel! Just subscribed!
In south korea, EASTER JET is almost bankrupt situation... Before Wu han virus pandemic, Easter Jet owned more than 20 aircraft. But now except 2 B737MAX8 and 2 B737-800, all of the aircraft were retired. Even all of the pilots lost their B737 license and all of the cabin crew were fired.
In any one Airlines going under, thousans of staff will be layoff ... how sad
Agree...that's very bad
Interjet use to be one of the top 3 airlines and the best low cost in México before the pandemic, now it disappear
Sad... 😔
Damn, i was so hoping that Ryanair was on this list
Same lol
Flybe was about to close long before the pandemic....it was a client in a company i used to work , the pandemic just helped speed up the process
Air Mauritius was already ailing before the pandemic. It didn't buy ONE A 330 neo but also 2 or 3 A 350 creating a large debt at a time the company was finding difficulty to repay. Pity as it is one of the pride of our small state. Let's hope it gets back with serious restructuring.
Yeah, I am really sorry for the people that were actually proud and were relying on airlines like Air Mauritius
are Sri Lankan Airlines + Air India also not suffering?
Actually Sri Lankan sues Airbus for $1 Bn in court for the bribery case (and I think they will win) so even if they are not doing so good, this money will certainly help them.
Air India is now surviving only on taxpayer's money, so not very good. But they're looking into privatising the company so they're still deciding on the right person. These discussions are ongoing since 2019 but maybe it will be concluded soon since the airline industry tends to recover little by little.
I'm surprised they didn't give an honorable mention to South African Airways. Didn't they file for bankruptcy or something?
They were broke before COVID 19
Yeah also flybe went bankrupt before
For flybe it happened just at the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020
Dude you really deserve more subs
Thanks man! Soon... I'm working on it!
You failed to mention that Avianca is the Colombian flag carrier founded in the city of Barranquilla where Shakira was born; it's the second oldest commercial airline in the world, and is still operating a number of flights. I Travel with them both on international as well as domestic flights quite often. Would be a great shame to see such a great enterprise disappear from the skies. Best of luck to all !
Thank you for the info! As you say, good luck to them all! 👍🏼
Isn't KLM the oldest. And Qantas the 2nd oldest
@@johnkern1878 No Avianca is the 2nd oldest. Created after KLM.
I loved Norwegian Air. Wishing them to come back asap
They are still operating.
from argentina, i can tell you here we have a few airlines in the same possition, LATAM argentina, Andes Lineas Aereas, Avianca Argentina, Norwegian Argentina.... if you do a second top ten, there you have a little more info
Before the pandemic Flybe was expanding rather too fast; perhaps making unrealistic investment. It was brave, but I think they were in trouble before the pandemic. I do hope Norwegian come out of this and recover. I use them, and they run a great service.
Colleagues told me FlyBe was incredibly mismanaged, burning cash in a useless way for years...
Norwegian is in recovery mode! They are making their way back to the top!
Norwegian Air Shuttle was saved & now back! 👍👍I bet they will resume their long haul flights in time. A lot of people still love to use this airline!👍👍
But they have chosen to cease long-haul flights.
In 2011 I flew on Avanica. It was a good airline then. It's the only airline on the list that I have flown on.
Interjet 🇲🇽 large fleet of A320s, and one of the very few civilian operator of the SU 100 ✈️
Interjet - possibly the worst airline experience I've ever had.
@@philexile0 OK 😖you should definitely never fly with those guys again ✈️
My grandmother just flew argentina to miami on avianca.
Love Avianca from Indo🇮🇩
Sad for Avianca. The true hero of Latin sky.
🙁
@@Top10Aviation Avianca is not totally dead, the Colombian government has injected a large sum of money into the company (which caused a stir in the country as the Colombian public generally disagreed) and just now they have created new routes and taken over others.
Adios patria adorada region del sol querida! Adios Avianca muertos adios....
@@davidpena5753 dirty money from colombian narcotics economy? Malas!
One of the best airlines we have flown with....excellent service.
2:58 dont get confused That's old Compass Australia airline with 2 A300B-600R leased by Monarch airlines UK in 1990s to 2000s
The US Regional called Compass airlines had a fleet of Embraer and Bombardier small Regional aircrafts
Someone already pointed that out, thank you for the remark 😊
The A300-600R was used in Australian Compass (Mark 1) in 1989-1990 with most of the staff coming from Ansett.. After they went bust the first time they came back as Compass (Mark 2) this time with narrow body jets similar to an MD-80 from memory between 1992-1993 or thereabouts. I remember the Chairman of Compass Mk 1 (Brian) criticising the choice of narrow bodied aircraft by Compass Mk 2 predicting they would also fail. Brian was right.
I would like to see all of them back in the skies. This was how people supported themselves and their families and also help boost the economy
Fact: Avianca isn't the oldest airline. The truth is, that KLM is the oldest.
How old is KLM?
@@GoldenManFrom October 1919
@@GoldenManFrom KLM is older by two months
@@robertyoung3992 Ok Thanks :)
"one of the oldest airlines"
Great and interesting, we may interesting to buy as cheap as all those air bus taxi for our country soon
Avianca should remain in the air
Yay new vid
Yess let's go and share!! 👌🏼
Top 10 Aviation i shared it
Thank you!
How about Cathy HK, SIA Singapore and MAS Malaysia ? How bad their situations now ?
mas is probably doomed soon
Miami Air. I was one of their Flight Mechanics. They have restarted. They have new ownership and are working through the FAA but they do have 2 planes on the cert.
When did they restart operations? Thank you for your comment!
As the commentator said I was SHOCKED to see the last Three names in the list !!!!
Shocked because seeing these names FIRST time in my Life !!!!!!
Never heard those Three or even these ten names before .
Jetair,A few Indonesian airlines, Scoot,Tigerair etc are missing.
Have not flown in any of them but its sad to know so many have lost their jobs in the air travel industry.
There are different Norwegian airlines, there is at least Norwegian Air Sweden, Norwegian Air Shuttle (which is in trouble) and a few more
I hope Avianca, solves its financial problems, it would be sad to see the second oldest airline actually in operations, I say this because I'm mexican and in 2010 we lost Mexicana de Aviación, the third oldest airline in the world at that time
Hopefully they'll go through the necessary restructuring and make it out of this 👍🏼
There are actually many old airlines in Latin America right?
@@Top10Aviation Yeah!, In Latin America we have some airlines that have been operating for a while, Líneas Aereas Nacionales LAN (Now LATAM) has been operating since 1929, Aeromexico since 1934 or Aerolíneas Argentinas, since 1949, here in Mexico for example we have Volaris or Viva Aerobus, which after the loss of Interjet are the two other major players, are quite new, founded around 2005
So my latest video on the Top 10 oldest airlines in the world is quite accurate in this case 😉
I’m so happy that any of the airlines and that are gone I have not tried traveled in
SAA too they have seized operations since December and there are business rescue practitioners. It’s a shame from Africa’s no. 1 airline to a bankrupt airline struggling to keep afloat
Yeah it's terrible..
It was not africa's no 1 airline.
@@m.y.m401 it was bro they legit won best airline for 13 years in a row
Airlines to Norwegian: Bitch how are u still alive
Your efforts need to be appreciated. Informations are business history.Thanks.
Thanks a lot !!
-when u late 7 month but there is still 1 dislike- :
It was just cutting out the dead wood. These company's were in trouble before the pandemic.
Certainly, but the saddest part is when it comes to the employees working there. A lot of people's lives depend or were depending on that one single company
Avianca should go back to the skies
The Compass aircraft shown in the video is an Australian company which stopped operating around 20 yers ago. It had nothing to do with the American regional airline.
You might be right, sorry for my mistake
And the rest.
The Miami Marlins Baseball Team used Miami Air for their team charters.
Great to know, thank you!
How many of these bankrupt airlines have virtually closed down airports? For One, Flybe has nearly closed down Southampton in UK, with just a handful of flights operating now, and no weekend flights. Over 90% of flights were Flybe. The airport wants to extend the runway for larger aircraft, but has been turned down so far. Also, restricted night flights, and opening times for this airport. A great airport with a rail station as part of the airport, but sadly in the wrong place.
Devastation due to shutdowns.
The bankrupted Avianca is the brazilian subsidiarie. The original Avianca (the one with 100 plus years) is the colombian, that has quite of finance problems, but still flying.
There is one plane you missed called ‘TigerAir’ it’s was due to the pandemic and has no more service
Virgin has cancelled its long haul flights not its regional flights
How about Cathy Pacific, Singapore Airline and Malaysia Airline situations now ??
All I know is Cathay pacific is dying due to cancellation flights to NA and EU and Cathay Dragon is dead due to covid
Tame, the flag carrier of Ecuador and Interjet of Mexico as well.
PAL filed fo4 bankruptcy just last month. Had to return new aircrafts.
I flew Compass airlines from Sydney to Perth in 1991, this Compass Airlines in this video is a different owned one.
I’m not sure why this mix is in my feed, nor d I know how to get rid of it.
I think you forgot the 5th oldest airline that is almost bankrupt, Czech Airlines
Yeah, im from czech, almost Went bankrupt. What a beutiful company btw i live So Close to the headauarters in prague
would like to see monarch come back, as my mum was happy with there flights and service as she is a disabled person
Being an indian , I like the avianca airlines so it should be in the skies
I heard that Philippines Airlines and Cebu Airlines are both being close to declaring bankrupcy.
One of my favorite airlines tiger air Australia died in March 2020
.......AVIANCA...........☝️
👍🏼
Thanks....BUT IT IS THE TRUTH........💫
Level Vienna went bankrupt? Ok thats surprising.
Virgin Australia 🇦🇺 is back under new ownership hope will survive
True! The situation has changed à bit since I uploaded this video
Norwegian 👍👍👍 hope to see them soon again.
They are back!
Flybe will be back soon, it's already been announced.
None of them! All of them have contributed to an unrealistic bubble of air travel demand that must come to an end.
South African Airways is gasping for survival. However not so much because of the pandemic, but rather because government incompetence and cronyism.
I miss Gracie Ferguson Airline
Sad for air mauritius
Avianca!!🤞🏾
It is not called Norwegian Airlines!! It is Norwegian Air Shuttle
Norwegian is getting rid of all its langhaul airchraft. All 787 Dreamliners are going back to lessors. A new company, Norse Atlantic is beeing created these days. They will take over some of Norwegians Dreamliners. Among the founders are Bjørn Kjos, founder of Norwegian :-)
Well this is very disgusting. What for? To recruit the same crew with even lower conditions contracts and make their life even more miserable. I am surprised the Norvegian government still supports these kind of businesses that promote social dumping and contributes to degrade the conditions of aviation professionals.
@@Top10Aviation Norwegian is not state owned., wich is why this happens. It is sad, but it's not much the state can do, and in most cases the companies is not even registered in Norway.
Few things…
Number 8 - Compass Airlines. You show compass airlines australia that went bust in 1993. Compass Airlines that you refer is livery totally different.
You say Braathens regional airlines ceased operations? then why there is braathens regional airlines ATR 72-600’s still flying to my local airport in stockholm?
Interesting wow, Flybe died
Edit: I’m a bit late
Thanks!! And unfortunately yes... I'm really saddened by all the peoplz affected 😕
I'm glad, you didnt put Garuda Indonesia on it,
You know, scenarios like these enhance my respect to companies like easyjet or Ryanair even more. They really run their company well.
Norwegian shoul’ve been number 1.
fun fact,flybe actualy returned
There are too many airlines in the world, i would rather have fewer ones that are safer.
I want to see Miami Air International back.
Virgin airline is not Australia company.
Weird I saw level airlines in sfo in June or July
rest in peace those airlines and for ALITALIA for 75years of service in this 2021 octomber 15 they stoped as it went bankrupt and the Italian goverment made a new airline so cold ITA airways
Now hear this, the ex Flybe CEO, Mrs. Christine Widener is the new CEO of TAP! No comments!
Flybe ceased trading before the pandemic
Pls upload on your next video, can you also include philippines airlines same case of bankcruptcy pls 🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭
Braniff. If you've got it.... Flaunt it!
Virgin Australia is still flying I flew with them recently
You forgot Cathay Dragon
Yeah but I think it was not yet gone at the time I was making this video
Yes
Keluarga saya sama saya .tidak Bangkrut....karena usaha bukan hanya di Bali saja..........
Virgin blue of course 👌
