  • Today we take a look at Amazon Data Services, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Data Centre Under Construction, former Burderop Hospital site in Brimble Hill, Chiseldon, Swindon, SN4 0QB.
We are immediately asked not to film by security and then spoken to by a few contractors on site.
We explain that it was perfectly lawful to take some drone footage of the site but they didn't accept that.
We look for clues and line up their litter outside.
    Copied from - www.datacenterdynamics.com/en...
The 12.3m high single-story data center will have a direct connection to the National Grid, with medium-voltage (MV) transformers, along with 11 diesel back-up generators, and a tank of 40,000 liters of diesel fuel.

This was really interesting, the site used to be an American Military hospital (believe it was USAF) before taken over by Compaq/HP.. There were three data halls in the HP facility, called Alpha, Beta and then later an extension to Beta called Gamma. There seems to have been a lot of landscaping on the site as the two HP data halls were dug into either side of a hill, the Beta and Gamma hall were where the pond area is and Alpha where the construction site is, they created a redundancy where if a bomb was dropped on one data hall the theory was that the hill would protect the other data hall so often you had mirrored systems between the halls or mirrored to other data centre sites... HP over a number of years decided not to invest in the data centre and concentrated on their new data centres in Wynyards and Doxford before eventually closing and being sold to Amazon... There was a thriving rabbit population on the site due to the data centre fences keeping out predators... Really interesting to see how the site has been developed and glad it stayed a data centre as there is so much infrastructure with power and data it would be a shame if all that went to waste..

These back up centres are positioned anywhere in the Country and the info is sent quicker than a blink of an eye.

Close assertion. Those are air finial rods, they from the air termination network. All they will do is capture the lightning energy and safely remove it along the roof conductors to the internal steel frame. At this point, there will be low-level connections from the steel, which in turn are connected to earth rods or mats. Provided the system is inspected annually the earth resistance readings should be within the maximum tolerance and will safely dissipate the energy to earth.

The refuelling system is there for the backup generators. The major thing with data centres is never loosing power, so ups (uninterrupted power supplies) battery systems and backup generators are essential to maintain power at all times, in the loss of network power. Another massive fundamental is cooling, as the servers give off massive amounts of heat, the cooling is as important as the servers themselves and if cooling was to fail fires can manifest very quickly. So in turn they are generally fitted with state of the art fire alarms and gas fire suppression systems and air extraction systems. And massive industrial cooling systems.. shame they didn't put the wasted heat to better use, and provided free heat to local homes and businesses within the area! The heat loss and energy wasted is a shame especially in the current climate.

Hiya DJ! I had to laugh, when the 'gentleman' on security , who incidentally resembles my late father in appearance and accent, said "you are almost on the site!' So to follow his crazy logic then, i'm sure that if he wants to sell his house or make any other large sale, he will always be happy with "almost the right money??? - say the house is worth £20'000 but the buyer only has £19'000???" which is almost £20'000. I doubt it, somehow! LoL! xx

Unfortunately the average cop can’t be trusted to police this kind of situation correctly. Ignorance of the law and siding with company security/management is the usual outcome, because, well, a lot also ‘don’t like it’ 🤪
DJ used to do cop shops, but said he stopped because ‘we need them’. Well, we need GOOD cops, so still a need, as other auditors do, as most abuse of legal activity comes from them.

@@TukikoTroy Sure, those two are good, and nobody should really knock them anyway unless they are willing to do it themselves. Easier said that done!
But as mentioned below there are even better auditors out there, taking greater risks to stand up for our rights. These industrial audits are difficult now and again, but are becoming a bit predictable and ‘safe’ now, and hopefully DJs increasing ‘celeb status’ isn’t becoming more important to him than anything else lol.

@@stuartb4525 Bang on, couldn’t agree more! Focus Pocus is fantastic, and just nails it every time. Polite to those who respect him/the law, but pretty much destroys anyone who abuses him/our rights. PTTP is also very good. Both hugely recommended viewing. The real key is knowing the law and policies inside out, which these two do. Education. Shamefully most cops/security are too ignorant when it comes to that. Crap training I guess, with just emphasis on how to deal with ‘scum bags’, and not law abiding people!
