- Today we take a look at Amazon Data Services, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Data Centre Under Construction, former Burderop Hospital site in Brimble Hill, Chiseldon, Swindon, SN4 0QB.
We are immediately asked not to film by security and then spoken to by a few contractors on site.
We explain that it was perfectly lawful to take some drone footage of the site but they didn't accept that.
We look for clues and line up their litter outside.
Copied from - www.datacenterdynamics.com/en...
The 12.3m high single-story data center will have a direct connection to the National Grid, with medium-voltage (MV) transformers, along with 11 diesel back-up generators, and a tank of 40,000 liters of diesel fuel.

I am astounded how these people think they can order people around on public property. Can you imagine what their reaction would be if you walked up to them on the street and started to tell them to do or not to do things.
You're forgetting that many of these people are wearing high-viz jackets. It makes fascists feel like the Nazi pack animals who were given Swatiskas to wear during WW2.

Andrew Martens: BOOM 😎 Great comment 😅😆😂 Thank you for giving me my first laugh of the day !
This was really interesting, the site used to be an American Military hospital (believe it was USAF) before taken over by Compaq/HP.. There were three data halls in the HP facility, called Alpha, Beta and then later an extension to Beta called Gamma. There seems to have been a lot of landscaping on the site as the two HP data halls were dug into either side of a hill, the Beta and Gamma hall were where the pond area is and Alpha where the construction site is, they created a redundancy where if a bomb was dropped on one data hall the theory was that the hill would protect the other data hall so often you had mirrored systems between the halls or mirrored to other data centre sites... HP over a number of years decided not to invest in the data centre and concentrated on their new data centres in Wynyards and Doxford before eventually closing and being sold to Amazon... There was a thriving rabbit population on the site due to the data centre fences keeping out predators... Really interesting to see how the site has been developed and glad it stayed a data centre as there is so much infrastructure with power and data it would be a shame if all that went to waste..
Thanks, I enjoyed reading your comment.
Makes sense Amazon was a strt up company financed by Darpa AKA the CIA Jeff Bezos is just the front man
@@DJAUDITS Data Centre’s can also be used (possibly Not this one though by the size of it) should something like a EMP attack be launched on any Data Centre in any industry, the information held there would automatically be sent to another remote Data Centre just waiting completely dormant with empty servers big enough to take the incoming data without loosing a thing.
These back up centres are positioned anywhere in the Country and the info is sent quicker than a blink of an eye.
As you said Data Centres are interesting and crucial not just here in the UK but for the rest of the world for todays existence in everyday life.

8:29 The camera stays on for your protection james, because people are often highly wound up when they phone the police and people in high-stress situations often misremember information, so I'm not saying you are a liar, but you may inadvertently tell the police something you will later deny.

Brilliant ‘shut down’ to that attempt of bullying - great work DJ
Those 'antennas' I would believe are lightning protection. Not just lightning conductors, but like what rocket launch pads have where the intention is to discharge the air to prevent a lightning strike being possible.
Close assertion. Those are air finial rods, they from the air termination network. All they will do is capture the lightning energy and safely remove it along the roof conductors to the internal steel frame. At this point, there will be low-level connections from the steel, which in turn are connected to earth rods or mats. Provided the system is inspected annually the earth resistance readings should be within the maximum tolerance and will safely dissipate the energy to earth.
One for the future, when an employee or representative uses a mobile phone for recording they become a Data Handler with an un-registered data collection device which the firm/organisation Data Controller is not aware of. This in itself is a brach of GDPR.
Wow. Basically a shopkeepers contractor tries to tell people what they can and can't do. Amazing.
It is laughable 🤣
I swear your people are cleaners… people in glass houses
The police were almost called for a guy almost on their land.
Calling the Police when someone is flying a drone over your land is like someone parking legally outside your house. You might not like it but there's nothing you or the Police can do about it! 😁
True , there are still alot of people who think you are not allowed to park outside their house . I once had a bloke get quite aggressive when I did that . As long as you are not blocking access to their drive or parked in a place where it would make it difficult for them to access and egress it is perfectly legal , as long as there are no parking restrictions.
That's a good analogy 👍
If you really want to upset someone park on their drive. It’s just trespass, the police won’t attend, and you can park nice and safe. As longs as they don’t have a barrier up.
I liked how straight to the point these interactions were. No bells and whistles, just what needed to be said. Videos don't get more clean cut than this was! A fantastic insight my friend!

Why does this data centre need so much security, what is amazon trying to hide? Amazing vid thanks for this, amazing audit!
@@TwmUkLive Mainly Hard Drives as it's a 'Data Centre', plenty of NAS racks, I'd guess a few petabytes.
@lindasmith6072 AWS is Amazons cloud service, so servers that other companies(and people) can use and pay as you go. That makes them a huge amount of money. I know for Microsoft their Azure data center's account for about 40% of profits. To be fair I can understand why they don't want the scrutiny but it doesn't mean the law does not apply to them.
Well Amazon sell their data centre services as being super secure. Big government and police contract to them so they have to be super secure.
The refuelling system is there for the backup generators. The major thing with data centres is never loosing power, so ups (uninterrupted power supplies) battery systems and backup generators are essential to maintain power at all times, in the loss of network power. Another massive fundamental is cooling, as the servers give off massive amounts of heat, the cooling is as important as the servers themselves and if cooling was to fail fires can manifest very quickly. So in turn they are generally fitted with state of the art fire alarms and gas fire suppression systems and air extraction systems. And massive industrial cooling systems.. shame they didn't put the wasted heat to better use, and provided free heat to local homes and businesses within the area! The heat loss and energy wasted is a shame especially in the current climate.

As for the first security 'guard'... well... you couldn't even get him to understand that you weren't on, or wanting to go on, site because it was 'forbidden' rules, yet he still wanted you to stop as you were ALMOST (not on) site.!

Hiya DJ! I had to laugh, when the 'gentleman' on security , who incidentally resembles my late father in appearance and accent, said "you are almost on the site!'
