This song is so life affirming. To me, it reminds me of the feeling of falling in love. When you meet someone and can think of nothing better than spending time with them. Sitting around, smoking cigarettes, and drawing with pastels with a new girl you lust/love...this song captures that rare span of time in life when you're renewed by a new love and connected to the essence of life yet again.
animal collective is more then simply music. they have reached another level of music and this song is a perfect example of that. its wave after wave of sound that creates a beautiful wall of sound. favourite song period
i was so fucking happy i got to see this song live when i saw them. they literally played this exact version in 2013 at the Depot. It was 14 15 minutes long and it went straight into What Would I Want Sky? and i couldn't believe my mind.
+MSAZgreen this was way back before they were well known or discovered, this was back when the band and the drawers were still growing and becoming familiar with each other. Animal Collective didn't get big till 2009 with their Merriweather Post Pavillion record because of the reviewers.
This song's fantastic. One of my favorites songs & one of their best songs on "Feels" which is one of the sweetest albums I've heard. The drummer is the best, I'd love to play drums like him, with all that energy. I love the drummer!
similar to how virbations can take down buildings if at the right frequency.... this music shakes me to the core. i dont expect anyone to like this, or give two shits whatever they think. i only wish that you could experience this music like i do.
Did you not see Deakin's sweet moves, Avey Tares Facial expressions trying to deliver a perfect vocal delivery, Panda Bear doin' his Panda thing, and Geologist with a ponytail!
HOW ARE YOU ALL JUST STANDING THERE LIKE THAT? jesus christ. move. do you even know what you’re listening to? this is the greatest love song ever written.
i love how it just builds exponentially... like panda bear pieces together the drum line and the awesome shouting by avey tare.... just fucking brilliant
Gotta love the look Avey gives the crowd @ 6:47 ... He then screams his head off. What a pure performer, it's like he's sticking up for a friend... the friend being his song.
this may sound a bit pretentious or hipster-like BUT..the other morning on the way to school i was listening to this specific live version at 6:17 - 6:27. It was really beautiful because when Avey Tare began to "wooohoooo", some rays of sun showed through the trees perfectly...it actually made my eyes fill up and gave me chills. i now consider every time i hear this song to be a "bad" listen on my part is i don't get chills....i love you animal collective.
This song and video ment a lot to me when I saw it at 17. I've seen them a few times but never during when they played with this setup. Sad I missed it but damn, happy I have the music. Havent watched this in quite a few years and it unzipped me a little as Frank might say.
i agree. when im at any concert i go balls out and dont care what others think and i hate people that dont realize whats happening infront of them. its like they dont appreciate it. especially a band like animal collective is so full of energy
this one is for washington phillips "I got the key to the Kingdom, and the devil can't do me no harm I got the key to the Kingdom, and the devil can't do me no harm Well, you take old prophet Daniel They put him in the lions' den On the 'count of the hundred-and-twenty princes Of bein' so full of sin" beautiful song. it speaks a lot about animal collective as a band, that they delved so deep into American music.
Yes. This song can't be bettered, really. Even the studio version of Purple Bottle is very exciting. I love it. I know they've moved on, but they'll never do this again.
As much as I love AnCo...I've never heard a live version of a song I like better than their studio versions........until I saw this. Amazing version. Way better than the already amazing studio version.
this performance is still ludicrously good to this day. 14 years later.
One of the best
The drums in this song are great, i thought they just sampled the tapping and panda bear played the toms and snare, but he does both simultaneously.
Austin B he has a delay on the drums so I think that's how he gets to should like soooo much is going on. Brilliant.
PB's godlike. I know this comment is 11 years old but I've read it a few times over the years and always wanted to reply
The more I listen to this song and to all of Feels the more I realize how unique Noah's drumming is.
@@lhmmhl what makes you think that? I'm not hearing a delay.
@@robertgarvansnyder4665 I feel like the tom drum has a slap back ish delay on it. Although 4 years later I'm not too sure.
This is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever. Those lyrics are just so sweet.
People in the crowd have no idea what's going on.
"I thought this was Coldplay."
Really disappointing this is t in the park the crowd is usually goodn
It makes me happy to see Geo all excited and screaming with Avey

this is undoubtedly in my top all time performances for any band any song legit top ten. fucking epic.
William Crane what’s in the rest of your list. I bet it’s good
They never responded so I'm gonna add Wolf Like Me on Letterman
i was so fucking happy i got to see this song live when i saw them. they literally played this exact version in 2013 at the Depot. It was 14 15 minutes long and it went straight into What Would I Want Sky? and i couldn't believe my mind.
Love the Stevie Wonder tribute. GENIUS.
I smiled so much during that!!!
It was do unexpected haha!
I think it was the original version of the song, but had to be cut out due to copyright
Speedy Snail
I heard the exact same thing you said. It was true unfortunately.
man, what a disappointing crowd :( I'd seriously lose my shit if I ever got to experience Animal Collective do this song live
I would too honestly.
+MSAZgreen SAME!!!!!!
+McKenzie Haskins losing my shit watching it in my room rn

I love how when they play out they always do free form warm ups for the first 90 seconds to workshop new material and get the vibe goin
A lot of there warm ups are songs from the past just added in different songs.
the drums
OH MY LORD THE DRUMS
I think this may be my favorite live AnCo performance of all time
This is easily my most watched video on RUclips. I can not put into words what this means to me..
me too honestly
Same. Literally. You guys wanna be friends?
@@donovanjmartinez sorry for the late reply but hello my new friend
Three years ago, I created a RUclips account to favorite this video. Today, it remains my favorite video ever on RUclips.

Perfect analogy!
i love how the beats of this song sound like someones heart beating faster and faster 'till it's about to explode out of their chest in gleeee!
Damn you animal collective. I'm late to work again
Jesus, Panda Bear is so beautiful on the drums... This song just makes me want to dance around and scream like a maniac!
I still remember changing my guitar strings for the first time and leaving them hanging like that because I had seen Avey do it 🙂
Did you not see Deakin's sweet moves, Avey Tares Facial expressions trying to deliver a perfect vocal delivery, Panda Bear doin' his Panda thing, and Geologist with a ponytail!
so perfect. i love how the whole band is just going nuts, then all the sudden stops, and avey says "thanks" like it was nothing.
i know. i love how the beats sound just like the beating of someone's heart about to shoot out of their chest!
HOW ARE YOU ALL JUST STANDING THERE LIKE THAT?
jesus christ. move.

this is the greatest love song ever written.
i love how at the end theyre just dancing to panda's beat, imo is what makes the song what it is
i love how it just builds exponentially... like panda bear pieces together the drum line and the awesome shouting by avey tare.... just fucking brilliant
Panda tears the drums on this one. Amazing.
Man, it's a lot better with the doo-doo's in the background. But this was still fantastic.
I think in 2007 the "aloof, detached, and too cool to dance" thing was still unfortunately very prevalent
Best performance of this song I’ve seen. Epic.
Gotta love the look Avey gives the crowd @ 6:47 ... He then screams his head off. What a pure performer, it's like he's sticking up for a friend... the friend being his song.
My favorite Animal Collective song of all time, I love how primal it gets towards the end. What a performance.
All of AM's lyrics are wonderful. Paired with spectacular music and its a trip!
my favorite song forever idc
I just came to see Panda Bear playing drums like a god
Love the drum variations on the second half of it

panda's kills in this vid. such a good drummer.
6:40 - 6:43
Hells yes Panda, keep that beat going.
All the audience members seem to lack a soul.
Still shreds in 2019
i was at this festival and missed it!!
sooo gutted.
only just got into animal collective last year so yeah, bummer. this looks fantastic.
I REALLY HOPE PANDA BEAR PLAYS DRUMS LIKE THESE/THIS ON THE NEXT ANCO ALBUM!

This is an incredible song. I didn't like Animal Collective before hearing it, but now I'm in love!
This is the entire reason I watch this video. When it gets to that point, I can just hear so much energy. Sick shit.

One of the best most real live version of purple bottle
quite possibly the best video on youtube
I've watched this video 20 times today
a little FYI to everyone, the lyrics that segue into the song are Washington Phillips - Keys to the Kingdom

Looks like an amazing live performance! I wish I was there :(
amazing song and performance!
The audience has no idea this is one of their best songs
How could you watch The Proclaimers when Animal Collective is on? I hope everyone stayed on the channel.
4:22 that Avey freakout is amazing why wasn't it on the studio version
I love Avey Tare's hallelujahs.
Deakin is so cool how he jumps around w/ that guitar :D
Even Geo is getting into the yelps at the end there!!
like a carnival of emotions.
Yo what the fuck why are AC live performance videos from this era so fucking good they’re like magical
it’s magic!
Similar experience for me. It was incredible!
This one's for Stevie Wonder!
I think Dave once said he wanted to use Stevies lyrics for that part of the song, but his people wouldn't allow it.

Grrrreeeeaaaat performance!
so crazy, yet so good.

Battles comes to mind. You can also look into Panda Bear and Avey Tares solo work.
Panda Bear's drumming!!
wow that was incredible
Anco needs to start taking psychedelics again. Come back!
oh man, a little overwhelmed. awesome. looks like the singer's wearing a clay pot for a hat.
Geologist is just the man. Period.
