good presentation explaining fundamentals. As a first responder I have not received formal training on this tool but watching this ha s given me more knowledge and awareness of how to use it. i.e. I have greater confidence if I need to handle it
Depending on how quick you need to make entry, you can use a hydraulic ram and a manual pump to spread the door frame, giving you enough clearance from the door latch and catch plate to just swing the door in with little to no damage. We used that technique when we were making entry for suspected injuries or ambulance assists.
An excellent video! This is quickly becoming a skill that law enforcement needs to learn and master, as the demands of the job are quickly changing, especially in RTF work.
Superb demonstration, kudos! If only the cops in Uvalde watched this training video just one-time, they would've known how to use the bar they were handed.
The only problem for cops is that you are standing directly in front of the door you are breaching with puts you at risk for getting shot thru the door. But still, this is an educational video all around.
What was he searching on the ground after opening? Victims or debris to close again with the tool? Yesterday I had to open a factory gate I couldn't... I had to use my ladder and jump in full gear since then I'm watching this videos like crazy, I'm a volunteer firefighter fighting for a job as a pro with no friends in high places...
As a career recruit myself it looked like he was doing an immediate search for a victim prior to controlling the flow path. Most victims we are told become incapacitated while searching for an egress and close to them. You would hate to force the door then wait a minute or so for your engine company, they enter then he or she has been laying right there the whole time.
@@JaySmith-or3us yes that's it... unfortunately I had to quit my dream they opened like a conteste for some openings to pro I had the best classification in front of people that are my superiors but they gave the position to friends some of them with negative overall classification... they crushed my dream now I have a very good and well payed job at a factory... and only do some volunteer shifts but just the minimum to be active on the corporation! Sorry about the testament :) :) I needed to blow of my anger by talking about it :)
@@TheAbrantino it can take a long time to obtain a career in this field. If you want it don’t give up, train, study, practice. Don’t limit yourself to location if you don’t have too.
Very nice video - have an interesting question, how is it with entrance doors or doors that are secured - because in the video you can see a door for the interior. Thanks for an answer.
Think about the money that is spent by a town fighting fires. The time it takes to get doors open to rescue victims and get interior fires extinguished. The increased costs to insurance companies for all the extra damage that wasted time can cause. The cost of fixing the front door when it is only needed for entry when the fire could be in the garage or other remote location. All commercial buildings have Knox Box by the entry doors. The fire department has a key to that box and the building entry key is inside it. Put a Knox Box at the front door of every residential structure. The town, the insurance companies and the homeowner could all chip in, and entry could take just seconds and with no damage.
Always enjoy these training videos. Never know when I'll swing back to write another firefighter story, and these details keep it real.
You write stories about firefighting?!? Bro, that's awesome!! Is there anywhere I can take a quick gander at your work? I'm interested!

So that's what those do! I literally came here after seeing Michael Myers killing people with a halligan in Halloween Kills lol
Dude. Watching that movie as we speak and wondered “what the hell is that?!”
I came here after Adam Savage talked about his
I love the internet
I think the Halligan tool is one of the best tool to have in a zombie apocalypse
This is a very very underated comment !!!!

@@ArmyMP True, but in an "active" shooter instance, sometimes you just gotta take that inherent risk, esp. if we examine all the failures of Uvalde...
Thx. for your perfectly Video. Greetz from Germany 💪
So 6 inches is alot?
Hi, i'm an italian fireman and i'd to know if there are halligan's instructors among you. Can you share some video or notes about this?
Thx
Cerci per un insegnatore in halligans? Ci sono tante qua vicino NYC (Stati Uniti). Ecco Paul DeBart: www.ctcustomfiretraining.com/about/instructors
Great video. Thanks!
2:45 wouldn't really work even without the 6" restriction would it?
Are these guys really firefighters? I don't see any mustaches.
Why 6” above or below? Why not at the locking mechanism?
great stuff
Size of the halligan being used?
30 inch is what they normally use
Thanks again. 😊

@@jamess6734 yes its true
High percentage of victims are found near a closed door. Once forced quickly search, look for fire and layout. Then control door till ready to enter

Great tool, probably saved thousands if not millions of lives, but alas I gotta think there is a better way to get a door open in a hurry.
Great video. Thanks!
