I have probably seen like dozen interviews in this series - The Putin files - by now. The interview by David Sanger is the most critical analysis of both Obama and Trump response to Russian interference. Unbiased opinions by David Sanger.

If I may suggest you read his "The Perfect Weapon". It's a useful companion to this interview. Also the documentary "Zero Days" on Olympia Games and Stuxnet is quite educational on the subject.

Of course Russia doesn't believe that principle applies to smaller nations on its border, just look at its actions towards Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Estonia etc. In those countries Russia will assert it's right to interfer in their policies and politics.
