      "Better" is very subjective. I think Seymour makes great stuff but I haven't tried those specifically. These pickups would be closer to something like the Alnico II Pro or Slash sets. Very sweet and vintage inspired.

    I had one of those. But a 2004. Same color and all. Loved everything about it except the stock 496R/500T hot ceramic pickups. Swapped them out for a set of Bare Knuckle Mule PAFs and it changed it for the better! Eventually traded it for something and regret it every day. Mine also had the bridge collapse.

    My first real LP was a 01' Classic in lightburst finish, just like yours. What a great guitar! resonant, toneful, easy to play. With a pickup upgrade of your choice (SD Antiquity, Burstbuckers, Classic 57, Thornbuckers) you got a R0/G0 for 1/3 of the price. I wish the neck was a lil bit thicker but love the vintage feeling of these old Classic. Loved the vid, a delight to watch. Keep it up!.

    Nice video! Would you comment on this Gibson vs your Greco? I find the MIJ Les Pauls nice , but the mids are higher voiced vs a good Gibson. Might have been the particular guitar I had , an old Tokai LS50. Kind regards!

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  4 месяца назад +1

      Most definitely I would answer a great question like this. In my _personal_ experience, it's quite the opposite. My Grecos are very full and dark and the Gibson has more jangle and "stringy-ness", almost like a Telecaster. Of course different pickups can adjust these things a lot but overall my 70's Grecos are very thick and warm sounding compared to this Gibson and at least 2-3 other Les Paul's I've owned.

    Nice! I like the finish on her. I have always preferred lighter hued tops on Les Pauls personally. Sounds good too. I once owned a Hamer STD and rocked white Strat knobs on it for a while. People definitely made remarks about it, so I kept them on. The electronics were also from a G&L guitar and had the PTB circuit. Yes, I had G&L and Fender parts on and in a Hamer that was a copy of a Gibson. Painted with bass boat metalflake paint ala Dick Dale. I would tell the average Gibson owner to sue me if they don't like it but they either can actually afford to or they run the law firm themselves 🤣😭

    A lot of Gibson fans go on about how amazing the 90s Les Paul classics are, but I think this era with the “snot green” inlays were still really good as well.
    I know many of the guitar players from my favorite bands of the 2000s used Les Paul classics. They are pretty diverse in the range of music they play well.
    Just recently did a comparison test between a new 2023 SG standard I got compared to 2007 les Paul classic, and I had to admit that I thought the classic was just much better. Better feeling neck, better crisp sound with clarity, better bite to it.
    The SG is not bad at all; I just didn’t realize how much better my Classic was lol.

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  4 месяца назад

      I top wrapping causing that problem never occurred to me, but I can absolutely see on the tail piece where that had been done for many years.
      Yes, he mentioned almost all of these things in the listing and when I found a few more issues upon receiving the guitar, he very kindly offered to let me return the guitar at his cost and refund me, or give me a partial refund. I opted for the latter because I like to fix things :P
      I have dealt with him several times now and he's a real pleasure to work with.

    Sorry, one more question. We're you using alcohol on the fretboard after you pulled the tape off from the level and crowning? Couldn't tell from the video, buy that bottle looks like one for isopropyl alcohol.

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  4 месяца назад +1

      Yep, it's just 70% isopropyl alcohol. Important to note, I was _very_ careful to make sure I didn't get any on the finish. Alcohol does not agree with nitrocellulose like on this Gibson so I used a gentle guitar finish cleaner for the rest of the guitar. The alcohol just helps break up that thick layer of gunk on the fretboard so I don't have to clean it up with steel wool and make a metal shavings mess.

    • @GuitarsZnuff
      @GuitarsZnuff 4 месяца назад

      @LucasFowler Thanks brother! Yeah, when I was younger I took some alcohol to a spot of nitrocellulose and instantly learned a valuable lesson. Now I just use Naptha and Virtuoso cleaner on anything with Nitro. Nice tip to use alcohol on the fretboard to help with cleaning.
