I had mine not so long ago, everything was until recently when reading the disc was always making this clicking sound and it couldn’t read the disc, did exactly what was shown in the video and it works again just fine, thank you!.
Hi there! A thing I usually check on PS2 Slim before I even put a game on it, it's if the flex cable from the lens sensor goes "above the line" where the disc would be, because I saw many of them scratching them... You could glue part of it again to the metal shield, or just replace it.
Yeah the repair on this one was quite minimal. Just the sensors needing a bit of cleaning. Unfortunately I didn’t capture that part on camera. I’ve got another slim video coming soon. I’ll try and show the tear down more thoroughly. Still trying to figure out what works well and what doesn’t. Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for that, I was going to open my PS2 and slammed the cover a bit harder than usual and boom, sensors started working again. I think my console needs a cleaning. It's been in the storage for so long. :)

@@FixMoreWasteLess Yeah, I love the message on your channel. I really enjoy cleaning & fixing electronics. @@FixMoreWasteLess Hey, i've got a ps2 slim model 77003 and the disc isn't being read and the disc spins incredibly quick, way too fast. Any idea what might be causing that?
@@FixMoreWasteLess I tried with another laser (not sure if the other laser was dead or not) and same thing. I'll have to get my hands on some new lasers from aliexpress soon.
It works for me. I tried the expensive games on my modded 75004 and I only have issue with disc sensors :) Thanks for advice. That reminds me of hell with UMD sensor in PSP 😑
I'd check to make sure the ribbon cables connected to the disc drive are secure. I have a newer video where at the end the cable attached to the back of the drive was loose and the spindle motor just kept spinning when closed. Hopefully its something simple like that. ruclips.net/video/XtVfxrEuc4E/видео.html
How hard did you have to press down on the lid for it to trigger the sensors? I have to press down witha good, almost scary amount of force. But it seems to be same issue as you showed. Thank you so much for this vid, there is still hope for my old baby ^^
Not too hard for that one. If it does work when you push down there some hope for the sensor. I’d use some ipa on the sensor with a toothbrush or q-tip and see if that helps improve it.
Um, My PS2 knows the disc exists, it valiantly tries, but i think the disc motor died. I definitely, know it can detect whether the door is open or closed, yet the lens might be ruined. I don't think its the case, though.
I and many other would just remove the rear switch and short it with a solder blob or wire, because later version slim ps2 did what the the ps1 did and rely on 1 switch problem solve, plus the front power is removable so you can replace or fix it.
I just replaced the disc drive in my ps2, and the disc still is not turning. When I test, by pressing down the two switches, the lasar moves, but the disc never spins. Any tips?
Check that all the ribbon cables from the laser assembly are connected well to the board. Just had one where the laser would move and the worm gear would just spin because one of the cables wasn’t well connected.
My PS2 slim has a grinding noise where the laser comes down and hits the spindle but the disc doesn't read. I hope u can find a PS2 like that because I don't know how to fix it.
Please help me im begging, my ps2 slim has a modchip and when i put in any disc and click reset nothing happens, even if i wait for 50 mins nothing happens just a black screen I can play games fine in opl but sir please explain
Could be the motor. Check all the ribbon cables for the laser assembly too. Sometimes if they’re not well connected or damaged they’ll affect things like that. Also try cleaning the motor good with ipa or compressed air before writing it off. Hopefully it’s something simple like that.
hello, I have a problem with my ps2 .. when I insert a disc, the laser normally moves up and down, but the cd/dvd only rotates a little and then stops and you can just see the laser trying to catch somewhere .. don't you know what to do with it please?
I cleaned them with some ipa and compressed air but these sensors weren’t that far gone. Sometimes the rear sensor just doesn’t want to work anymore and in that case you’re better off soldering a wire between the two sides. it’s the better long term solution but more involved. Hope that helps.
Mine doesnt spin AT ALL like nothing not even the eye doesnt matter how much weight you put on it doesnt matter if both switches are held down, ive even cleaned out the whole thing NOTHING and its driving me insane i have no idea why its most likely just a dead drive ive tried multiple different games and cds even, the whole drive is completly frozen it doesnt move or make any noise so i think my ps2 is unfixable at this point 😑
If the adhesive’s started to come loose I’d try tapping it down but with enough slack that the laser can still move all the way to the center. Otherwise a new ribbon might be in order. It should hold the shape better and not curl up so much.
It does spin when you hold the sensors after a number of tries, but what's the solution for when you want to play games? I tried dusting already, but should I put something on top of the console?
I have another video where I bypass the sensor by creating a connection between the two points. If you have the tools to do it it’s kind of a permanent fix. Could try soaking the sensor in some ipa. I’d caution against placing anything on top. It could cause the disc to scratch. One other thing is to make sure the lid isn’t damaged and that the plastic piece that triggers the sensors are still in place. Here’s the video. You can skip ahead to about the 8 min mark for the sensors fix. ruclips.net/video/XtVfxrEuc4E/видео.htmlsi=BeFAvGdngMx2AA7f Hope you get it working!
@@FixMoreWasteLessI understand that placing something on top is a risk, but my console is almost 20 years old so this is probably the only hope. It hasn't been touched in over a decade. I got it to work miraculously, but it only reads disks if enough pressure is put on the lid.
I have a ps2 slim 9001 model and I can't get the disk to spin. When I close it the laser moves like it wants to read but can't bc the disc isn't spinning. I think it might be the little motor that makes it move. Any ideas?
Maybe try looking at the ribbon cables attached to the laser and make sure they're connected well. But it could be that the laser is failing and isn't able to tell there's a disc in the system. I think in that situation, the laser moves to check if there's a disc and then goes back into the retracted position if it doesn't detect one. Hopefully, it's just a loose cable. If you take the top lid off and put a disc in, what does it do when you press on the lid sensors?
The easiest thing to do is to just bridge the connection on the sensor not working. Here's a video showing that issue: ruclips.net/video/XtVfxrEuc4E/видео.html You can skip ahead to the 7min mark for the sensor bypass. You will need a soldering iron to do that.
Hello, quick question.. I bought a brand new sealed ps2 (9004 CB slim) I put my game in and it doesn’t read.. when i push the top little bit it will read the disc but don’t start it.. can u tell me what the issue is?
It could be the sensor for the lid. Different versions have the sensors in different places so it might not be in the same area as in the video. Does it spin only when you press down? If so it might just have some crud from sitting for so many years. I’d try some ipa on a q-tip to see if that helps. Amazing you found a sealed ps2. Pretty messed up it didn’t work right out the box.
Hi my ps2 slim the disc tray is not working it makes this ticking sound and it trys spinning a couple of times and it stops and says no disc in it is there a problem with the lazer to it
Possibly the laser. You could try cleaning the lens with some isopropyl alcohol to see if that helps. If not it might need to be replaced. I’d also recommend testing it with a CD and/or blue disc game or dvd depending on what you’ve been using. Sometimes when the lasers start to fail they manage to read one format and not others.
