Pfrt, the game is awesome. But if these would've been allowed, I think they should've released the game in which you can choose between a kid-friendly version and an adult-version with some of the things in the early sketches. Everyone happy.

Fun Fact: The art of Oswald being a monster and holding several Disney characters inside of him was based on an early story concept where Oswald would've betrayed Mickey and merged with the Phantom Blot, but Junction Point decided against it due to Epic Mickey serving as Oswald's re-integration back into the Disney brand, and establishing the character in a villainous way wouldn't have went well.
That would have been a cool twist but I’m glad Mick and Os became buds

I like to believe there's an alternate timeline that they used the original concept art. To be honest, this might have be an interesting horror like Disney game (Official if released)
"Dumb reason"? Bro this would have been a fantastic game if they left it like this, we could have had Undertale 5 years before if they left it like this. We would have seen a corrupted or a good version of Mickey if the player wanted to help or not. The way I see it, is that we were robbed of what potentially could have been one of the greatest horror games of the decade. Although the Epic Mickey we have now is also a good game with a great plot. Either way, I don't think it would have been dumb if they left it like this. I mean think about it, this game had everything before all the popular horror games came out in the 2010's- It had nightmare animatronics, had a good or bad route where based on the players actions it could effect the game, and ink like monsters that puts Bendy and the Ink machine to shame. It was all LITERALLY right there and ready to go-
I don’t think it would be well since the game wasn’t very technically impressive and had many glitches and I can’t imagine how many more there would be with such ambitious and daring ideas, as well as the fact that maybe the game would be too dark for people, darker doesn’t alway mean better, although I do love most of the ideas I do believe that they shouldn’t have gone with this

Like the ps5, Xbox series x they could (if Disney allows it) make an horror adventure where after the second game, the blob under the mickey dump mountain would takes it's form to resemble Mickey has blob Mickey. Who would corrupt any cartoon land into the dark dystopia industry and Mickey must help bring things back from corruption.
There is some satisfaction in the knowledge that these were more "let's see what we can get away with" concepts rather than the original vision of the game.
The satisfaction is in the fact that Epic Mickey was as creepy as it could ever possibly be, it hit the limit Disney would allow

If Disney imbraced it's Darkside, Epic Mikey could've been longer and cooler, while Epic Mikey 2 could've done so much more for some of its scrapped elements.
I agree, Blotworx at concept level was horrifying. The idea of mutilated sentient creatures (Blotlings) fused into metal bodies, no doubt extremely painful to live is strong and compelling but it wasn't explored enough. Was probably the reason the Mad Doctor dubbed them "unpredictable."
0:58 imagine seeing this battle in 4k on the ps5 with insane transitions and cutscenes. They don’t call it epic Mickey for nothing, a man can only dream though.

@@thewizard7967 I totally get that, but keep in mind that Remakes often also have new stuff added to them. Otherwise theyd just be a Remaster
They did say that they would expand on the morality system, so perhaps more stuff will be explored as well.

It makes sense learning that these weren’t expected to be approved by the higher ups. I was under the impression that these monsters were indicative of a horror direction the game was taking, and it really intrigued me since I figured Disney would’ve never pursued this project unless they knew they had a good idea on their hands.
Well…I guess I’m satisfied knowing this wasn’t the “true” artistic vision the team had in mind and only served to gauge artistic limits, because it made me think we were denied the full experience that was originally envisioned by the creators.
If they would have made it as dark as in the concept arts it would have been so much better and more people would remember the game

@@xthewhitewolf That's what I said. They seeing how far Disney would let them get with the darkness, they knew that Disney would reject the crazy dark designs so they would make more and more tamer stuff until Disney would allow it.

The idea of walt Disneys characters turning into forgotten and evil monsters is the best horror concept ive seen. I can't wait to look around this game again soon and find so many interesting small details and secrets
Imagine if we got this version. Disney would hate but many would love it I think
I mean, they hated Jack Sparrow before POTC was even introduced to audiences because they thought he was gay, and you know how homophobic Disney is. Fast forward to the box office records and critical acclaim by fans, they changed their tune and now they embrace him as a beloved character. That's also not to mention that they allowed Tim Burton to produce The Nightmare Before Christmas despite its dark aesthetic and vibes. So yeah, it's possible that in an alternate timeline, maybe the game would've been allowed this darkness that we see on our screen right now. Sadly, this is not that timeline..
The environments stand out to me, they're so desolate looking. Some of the most creative drawings I've seen. They illicit some odd emotion I can't describe

I think it might've been these concepts that partly inspired Bendy and the ink Machine. I still can't help but picture a game this dark featuring a beloved character anyway. It's a theme that people wanna explore but we just don't get a lot of.

@@ludo5535 And chances are Disney would never allow that to happen, especially with Mickey Mouse, who they use in cartoons aimed at preschoolers alongside the newer cartoons that harken back to the original shorts, with its slapstick humor.

These concept art images show a lot of untapped potential in Epic Mickey. I’d be interested to see a remake with these darker and unsettling elements included.
I absolutely love the atmosphere and aesthetic of this game. So eerie and creepy and filled with passion for the source material. If the third game wouldn't embrace this more and take more inspiration from this original concept art or at the very least match the first game's tone, then I wouldn't have wanted it anyway.

I’m guessing 0:37 was some concept art for Mickey being INSIDE of the Small World clock tower.
Just imagine the final version of the game is going to look like the concept art like the more twisted and scarier enemies and the storm blot as the final boss of the game

From both 0:43 and 0:46 it looks to me, like Oswald was supposed to be the main final bad guy or gets corrupted by the bot As it gains power from Oswald’s hidden hatred and anger. But I’m pretty sure they had to not put that there because it wouldn’t fit in through the story of the game

Correction, Steamboat Willie Mickey is public domain. Disney still owns the rest of Mickey's older cartoons newer media. It will take centuries for all Mickey content to enter the public domain.

So, there’s a remake coming out. I hope they’re able to make it as dark as they want this time around. I loved this game as a kid, and the dark atmosphere played a huge role. Can’t wait to see what they do differently this time.

I like to think of it as like a joint effort by the Blot and Mad Doctor to incorporate experimental types of blotlings to convert them into beetleworx.
Also I’m assuming (this is a theory of mine) that maybe in concept that the rats seen in the concept art would’ve been little maintenance or assembly workers working to build robots for the Mad Doctor which leads me to believe that if Disney would’ve allowed this we would have had some scene of Mickey on his journey stumbling upon one of these factories seeing these rats work tirelessly to create these constructs of war to be used against him and any resistance in wasteland. Just thinking about it this game could’ve been so much more darker and perhaps even greater then the finished product we got.

In another timeline Disney evolved into the most deep happy/dark mature fantasy studio. In This universe these amazing films can be seen through scrapped concepts.
The earlier artwork and earlier concept ideas is soo cool. 😎

Epic Mickey 2 is where they water it down to feel more "kid friendly and light-hearted" what a disappointing squeal.
What I would have done with the sequel is expand on the Oswald blot idea. Where while he is stick inside the blot. A little parasite from the blot gets inside of him. And over the course of the second game. We see him become more rabid. Until he becomes the artwork that we see for the concept. And I would crank up the darkness for the game. And actually FIX THE GAMEPLAY CONTROLS.
