      If it’s waxed will need to be stripped as nothing will adhere to a wax, not even a primer

    Can Zinsser 123 primer be used under your one hour enamel? I’ve seen conflicting information regarding this. I’m working on bathroom cabinets and want to be sure to avoid the cracking I heard mentioned on a RUclips video. Thanks!

      As long as it’s not a shellac based primer. Sometimes those present issues with adhesion. Big things when not using Wise Owl Products together is to test. And anytime you primer ensure it’s fully dry as well.

    I am going to paint over oak cabinets. Can I use Wise Owl Primer over Aqua Coat grain filler? And then paint with OHE?

    • @WiseOwlPaint

      I’ve never heard of Aqua Coat, but I do know our primer can be used on just about any surface you can think of… both for stain blocking and adhesion…. So my initial thought would be yes. I’ve used it on wood, other paints, metal, brass and plastic with incredible results.

    I am new to WO and curious if OK to use the primer OR the varnish top coat with other paint brands ?
    I just received my order TODAY with a few colours and primers as well as top coats :-)

      I haven’t personally used it with other brands but I wouldn’t see any reason why you couldn’t 👍 So I’d say yes, I feel it would be okay to use either with other brands of paint ☺️

    You mention Stain blocking but specifically How does this primer work on tannin bleed through? Thanks.

      when I speak of stain blocking tannins is the main one of those I'm referring to. I've used this on 100 year old mahogany and had incredible results, just be sure to follow the proper prep

      Yes, but only stirring will truly get the products mixed properly 👍

    Hi Mark,
    If I am going to use a primer, is it absolutely necessary to sand the piece before priming?
    I always clean and degrease my furniture thoroughly before painting. When not using a primer I also sand.
    As the primer has great adhesion properties I would like to know if it would adhere just as well to a piece without sanding before application.

    • @WiseOwlPaint
      @WiseOwlPaint  3 года назад +2

      It is recommended as our best practice, but we do know our Chalk Synthesis Paint does adhere to most surfaces without need for primer as long as proper cleaning has been done. But due to the great number of woods, finishes, paints and other woods folks may want to paint, we give this process as a best practice to avoid any issues that could come from skipping that step. But if you’re comfortable with the cleaning, and know you don’t need primer for stain elimination then you can use your judgement to decide.

      @@WiseOwlPaint thank you for your reply.
      What my question actually is, is do I need to sand before priming. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

    • @WiseOwlPaint
      @WiseOwlPaint  3 года назад +1

      @@karenjeffrey8245 the scuffing step is another of what we consider as a “best practice”, so I wouldn’t skip it myself. Just remember it’s not sanding, just scuffing up the top surface and not sanding through it. Our Primer is amazing for adhesion when it’s needed, but we still recommend scuffing the surface first.
