I had the privilege of attending her event in Toronto this past August and it was absolutely amazing. The room was crying at times, laughing at times, just bonding over her words, that of the moderator, te many gems shared throughout the event and the energy she brought with her. She mentioned she had been exhausted for a while with the book tour, her regular work and all kinds of other projects she is constantly working on and decided to shut everything off and take a real timeout in Hawaii to recharge her batteries and give us her whole when she came back. So happy that she got to take time for herself and the energy she came back with was 10 ties better than what she would have given us had she not listened to her body and that is something we should all think about when we constantly delay breaks, vacations, etc. You cannot function on an empty tank. It is not fair to the people who benefit from your work but it is not fair to yourself. You only have one body and one brain. We have to take care of them. For those who are wondering, Elaine is as advertised. I got to spend a beautiful moment with her at the end of the event and although there were tons of people waiting to get their books signed, she really took her time with each and every one. The staff had to rush people once it became clear that they would have to stay overnight if things continue at that pace. I was among the first people and got more time but I did not want to take up too much time, knowing how many people were waiting, but I got to tell her how important her book and her work were for me, she listened with her entire self, I told her about me and my journey, and she told me how impressed she what I have had to overcome and expressed a lot of hope for my future, as did I. I was wearinga t-short that read "Black Women Glow Different" so you know she loved it:-) A wonderful experience with a real badass!
I am half irish half Jamaican i soooooo get it and have always seen myself as a black woman and i am soooo honoured to be a part of such beautiful cultures ❤🖤❤🖤
