Takes a natural talent to operate a pellet mill,, I've used CPM and German Rangers,, if you stick a die on a Ranger be ready to get burned of you don't know what your doing,, Only way to unstick a clogged die is by motor oil and constant adding cracked corn until it starts spitting out your burned cubes or pellets,, and then have fire safety measures in place of those burning pieces get into the system,, always wet choke a die,, never dry choke them,, best way is by breaking in a new die with corn pellets or much cornmeal,, if you try running alfalfa through a new die be prepared for hell,, lol
I used to work at lignetics a wood pellet mill that ran 4 400 hp Pellet mills pretty much around the clock. It was a fine line between running the mills at optimum throughput and overfeeding them which of course would cause a plug. The best way we found to unplug the rings was a about a cup full of diesel fuel tossed into the ring while jogging. Of course those diesel soaked pellets would then have to be discarded.
@@michaelknight4041 Ah blockages ! Yes we love them, will see the Amps spike and then dump indicating a blockage. We use soy bean oil fat on our dimes whenever we open them for cleaning or after a blockage

That might be ok if you were selling the pellets. Way too much work to heat a house. Get wood, mix it grade it, additives, pelletize it dry them store them. It is crazy. Not to mention the pellet mill cost big bucks. REPLY

That really depends on the size of mill, our 90Kw motor delivers 6 tph and 200Kw 12 tph. But and there's a big but it depends heavily of the type of feed that enters the mill also the quality and temperature of steam. Operating a pellet mill is sort of a balancing act you work your way up slowly till reach max amps. When it chokes you have gone too far. And some feeds doesn't work at all, usually the more oil you have in your feed the better it runs, and less chance of burning the die. Limestone is death to a die and blocks the holes. Hours of experience make for a good mill operator. The secret is not to let it choke or burn the die.

Worked at a feed mill that had two of these and we kept them running 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. Very reliable machine.

In my line of work we use ground corn, fine sand and liquid fat to break in new dies .
