Gabriel, I feel like you’re always thinking ahead and trying so hard to provide for you and your family, but if you take a moment to sit back and TRULY contemplate and realize what you’ve accomplished so far at this young of an age, you should really feel elated. It’s easy to get caught in thinking what the next step is, but if you just shift your perspective a bit, you should be feeling extremely good about yourself and what you’ve done

Hey Gabe and Jess! In 2019 I had a complete mental fog! It was a year of a ton of change and so I learned over about a 6 month period how to tap into the right sources of comfort, joy, and stability. Don't get me wrong, community, careers, socializing, living spaces are all awesome and can bring some comfort, joy, and stability. But I didn't realize until all of that changed, just how much I was expecting those external things to fill my cup! You nailed it when you said you can really tell a difference on the days when you spend more time withe Lord. Speaking from the other side now..getting plugged into a new church home, SERVING, and just letting God become that main source will make a world of difference! Love you both!

Praying for you Gabe. Have gone through similar periods myself, especially this year, where it feels like my whole life has changed in the matter of a few months. But God uses every battle for good, keep pushing through, and you'll see one day why you needed to go through this, whether it's to make you stronger, or for you to be there for someone else going through the same thing in the future. My best advice that I can give you is what I was blessed with the opportunity to do a little while ago. Take a weekend for yourself, or a couple of days, get away from society, and do a retreat focused on God. No phone, no social media, no distractions, just you're bible, God's word, nature, some worship music, and prayer. I was going through a very rough time, overwhelmed with uncertainty and anxiety, didn't know what was wrong with me. My youth pastor convinced me to go with a group of my friends, and best thing I've ever done, it changed so many things, and healed past hurts I didn't even realize were there. Sending lots of love to both of you xx

Sending prayers to both of you during this time. And also want to just send extra love to Jess, not that anything is Gabe's fault, but it's also extremely taxing on a s/o or "caretaker" of someone who deals with another person's mental state. It's not easy feeling like you have to try and constantly make sure someone else is ok while putting aside your own feelings as well. Jess's entire life has been unfamiliar, new, and constantly changing for years now and I just think she handles herself so with so much grace and patience it's truly so admirable and she just deserves the world.

I completely understand the mental/emotional rollercoaster. My husband and I moved 12 hours away for him to go to graduate school in 2018. I was overjoyed and so excited for the move especially because we were moving to a larger city with so many opportunities. The moment we arrived to the new apartment, my anxiety hit and my husband could tell I just shut down. I was certainly excited for the new adventure but I got in this emotional/mental slump because everything was different. I had to find my new routine and the uncertainty made me anxious. To this day I struggle with my mental and emotional health, it just has peaks and valleys. I try to just look forward to the peaks and remember I am never alone in my valleys. Take one moment at a time and remember you got this! You have your own unique story/situation but you are not alone, you've got incredible support!

I can definetly say big changes like that really throw me for a loop. Takes a month or so for me to get back to myself. I moved into my current apartment last year, under very different circumstances, fininancial stresses, family issues and not having many friends really made things worse for me. Got awarded grants, became super close to the friend I have now and really just making my house my home truly helped a lot. Got to know my area more. I created so many awesome memories with my friend, going out and staying in. I repainted what was my main room exactly how I wanted and made one wall in my now bedroom a doodle wall so I could draw on it whenever I was struggling, I also started to read A LOT, was reading like a book a day at that stage and yeah, that's what helped me, obviously whilst praying throughout.

2020 has been a hard year and even with blessings it's hard to find joy sometimes. Then you are left berating yourself for not appreciating what you have so it contributes to your poor mental health. It's a vicious cycle.
I hope 2021 is better for you both.

I really hope you're able to pull through this rough season Gabe. It's so hard to give a stock standard piece of advice as everyone is different but God is good, He is there in the wilderness, sometimes He's allowing pain in our hearts to highlight what is broken or causing rotten fruit. I found counselling to be so vital to understanding my heart, good pastoral guidance and the biggest thing was strengthening my relationship with God. In my rough season I began being disciplined in extended time with God every day, making Him my priority, everything else can wait and always having a Sabbath day every week. Trust God, allow yourself to rest and be faithful. I'll be praying for you!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this Gabe :( I went through something similar when our family was building our new house. We stayed at my cousin’s house for almost a year and during that time I started experiencing anxiety attacks daily that I had never ever experienced (the feeling was similar to before you go on stage or speak to a large crowd). One of my fears (of insects) was also heightened and at one point I started seeing the insects physically larger than they were in reality (Ex. Spiders double the size). Once we moved into our new house the anxiety and heightened fears went away completely. My theory is because my cousin’s house wasn’t “our space” so I never felt like I was at home whereas my home in the past always felt like a safe space that I could control. I hope that helps or at least makes you feel like you’re not alone. Wishing you guys all the best ❤️

I don't know anything about moving across the country but I do know plenty about that fog/heavy cloud feeling. I've found weekly therapy with the right therapist is super helpful to keep me accountable as well as a morning gratitude practice weather that's prayer, meditation, whatever you're into, having a grateful mindset changes everything. Well wishes to you both 💖

I’m so happy Gabe has Jess to keep him on his toes. Gabe, you should be so proud of yourself! No one is perfect and everyone struggles but you aren’t alone and you are so so loved! You are alive and you have purpose! You are Gods creation that is God breathed and wonderfully and fearfully made! God is not finished with you, you wake up every morning alive and breathing. You are more than your past and what you’ve been through, you have come all this way and God will bring you the right people in your life. Seek first the kingdom of God and everything will be added into you!

We love you Gabe. I completely understand the emotional fog. I have moved countries as well as states so I understand the adjustment period. I recently moved to AZ and it has been hard to adjust to my new life here. Leaving my dear sweet community and all that I know back home in the northwest. I am happy to be here but it still feels hard. I have found that I have a lot of peace and rest when I spend time with God as well. But I also need to get into some healthy rhythms. SLeeping well and drinking more water and so on...
Trying to understand what it is that my mind, body, and spirit needs. So I hope and pray that you are feeling better soon. All the love. May we both begin to heal in ways that we may need to. So glad you went to see your dear friends. Peace and Joy:)

Gabe, I pray that God gives you peace and comfort during these difficult times. Several years ago, I started a small happiness journal where each day I wrote one thing that made me happy. Even on the saddest days I could see the blessings from Heavenly Father. I really recommend doing that and then reading back on all the joys you see each day. It helps a lot. I find starting my day with a prayer to know who I can serve that day helps bring joy to my life as well. I’ve never had a day where God hasn’t put someone in my life to help out in some way. Serving others brings true happiness.
Also, I love this verse in the Book of Mormon, Another testament of Jesus Christ that talks about putting our trust in God and how He’ll help us through our trials.
Alma 36:3. - “...for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day.”
I know that Heavenly Father knows you more than you know yourself. The trials that He gives you are to help you become the man that He knows you can become. Trust in Him and you will find peace. Pray with an open heart daily and He’ll guide you.
Jess, you are a daughter of a beloved Heavenly Father. The trials you go through are also to help you become the daughter He knows you can become. Listen to the promptings God gives you. Sorry you are unable to see your family in Australia this Christmas. I know Heavenly Father will bless you and your family during these hard times.
Thanks for all the joy you bring to RUclips! I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Gabe, I think you are way too hard on yourself and your expectations for your life, career and personal goals! This year it is even easier than ever to fall into the negative mindset that all of us are walking through. I think something that has helped me is trying to be genuinely grateful for the things that I do have and it has actually shifted how I feel about myself and my life! You have so much to be grateful for, a beautiful wife, dog, close family, brand new home, established RUclips career. I know we can not know everything going on behind the scenes, hope that you can come out on the other side of this! Sending all the love and support your way ❤️

It’s been one year since I moved from New Mexico to Idaho so that I could be closer to my (then) boyfriend and essentially be a part of his church. Within a few months of moving we got married (May 2020!) and we started our lives together. I have been on a rollercoaster of emotions feeling homesick, lonely, tired...for the first time ever I am aware of my mental health and the importance it plays in my day. There have been countless moments of defeat and stress along with sadness and confusion. Change is often times very difficult even when you’re a happy person. It can also become difficult figuring out how to be okay when you love Jesus and know that he’s in control. Take it moment for moment and feel what you need to feel. Pray and call your friends. Bake some cookies or cook up some pasta. Take a walk or a nap. Listen to your favorite song or watch your favorite movies with snacks. Always remember that your emotions are valid and you’re loved.

Hey I loved reading your comment. I recently moved from the United States to Peru and I’ve been here about 2 and half months. Adapting here has been taking a toll on my mental health and I also realized how important it is to pay attention to mental health and find things to make yourself feel better. It’s definitely been a roller coaster but having my fiancé here has made the situation better.

Hey Gabe!! Definitely have been feeling some of what you are. Change (especially big changes) is tough for me too and I think we all expected this year to have ended differently. The fact that our holidays look different is enough to bring any cloud. Add the anxiety of the virus, the move, all the bad, and even the good and it ALL makes sense. There's a lot going on and I think we are all stressing more than normal because of it! Thankfully, Jesus offers us a better story but sometimes we need to sit and check in with our hearts to make sure we're actually doing okay! I know I'm really bad at that. Praying for you friend! Thanks for being vulnerable!!

Moving is a big change in my past experience it triggered my anxiety and though we all different I'd say consciously allowing myself to settle into a new chapter in life has created a big difference. Simple stuff like getting into a routine I'm comfortable with and then branching out from there when I'm ready to experience new things and so on helped.
Waking up early and medidating on scripture has an incredible impact as well.

I've been having a hard year and having a hard time with change too. I'm starting to feel that same cloud. I raised twins from the time they were born until 3 years old and this August they were taken from me and given to the biological parents (who are drug addicts) I haven't seen them since. I just had a baby a month ago and we are also building a house. All this change is making my head spin and doesn't even feel like "my life" anymore. So I know exactly how you feel!

@@pandalala888 yes and no. They are my half sister's kids. She kinda dropped them off when they were born and we didn't have legal custody until the last year. Because it was legal then they (the bio parents) lost their food stamps and government money so they started fighting for them back. Biological parents almost always win that fight, unfortunately, even if it's an unsafe situation with drugs and abuse.

hello! My dad is a pastor and I’ve moved quite a bit in my life. Even when I knew that where we were going was where God wanted us... it still didn’t make it easy. I think change is hard for anybody. My dad has always told me, “that’s why they call it change. because if everyone was ok with change then it would be comfortable.” please know that I am praying for you and jess because it is never easy to move. Like you said you don’t realize the friendships that you have and what they mean to you until you’re gone. I struggle often with going through different stages of feeling depressed or overwhelmed with anxiety, and it takes everything to know and understand and most of all accept the fact that God has a plan and that his love for me is stronger and more powerful than my depression.

I can say that I totally relate to what you are going through Gabe. My family moved to a new state when I was a junior in high school and I had to obviously move schools, leave all of my friends, and readjust to a new life. I was so anxious that I broke out into hives at one point because it was just a lot at one time. It took a lot of prayer and talks with my parents to start to get my body and mind realigned. It takes time and it's totally natural. Praying and wishing the best for both of you (+milo) in this time!
