  • After a bit of a landscape photography bust at our sunrise location, I set out on a photography challenge for sunset in El Chalten.
    Instagram: / brendanvanson --- My Orange L-Bracket: amzn.to/2JXB2wC
    I'm obviously still growing as a photographer. I feel like I'm a good landscape photographer. I'd love to be great, but I often don't have the patience for things like holding out on one single composition. So, instead, I kind of embrace my frantic-ness. Today, I embraced it by giving myself a landscape photography challenge. 1 sunset, 1 location, 5 different photos. It was a challenge, much harder than I expected, but it was fun.
    The day, of course, started out with some landscape photography at a spot just above El Chalten, here in Patagonia. But, we didn't really get light. And though I did get a photo or two, it wasn't great.
    So, we pushed on in the afternoon to a location just outside of El Chalten, Argentina. And, outside Los Glaciers National Park. The location was cool, and made the perfect spot for my challenge.
    If you're every struggling with your photography, give yourself a challenge. You'll find it to be really helpful, I think.
    Tomorrow on the photography vlog, we're leaving El Chalten and heading back to Chile.

    Thats a great idea, to challenge yourself to get 5 different images! That reflection was killer.

    Awesome video and energy Brendan. Loved the images and the advice on big vistas. I think my favourite image was the last one, you can't beat a good reflection!!

    Your channel has quickly become my favorite... found it while looking for information on photographing Monument Valley and have been hooked since. In today’s vlog, the scenery is almost overwhelming. I love the idea of setting a goal for the number of different images to capture - I think it helps provide focus when you have stunning scenery and gets you thinking when you have less to work with. Anyhow, your vlogs are terrific.

    Stunning place, and I'm happy that your adventures are not just the same exact "trophy images" as every other Patagonia adventure seems to produce. Bravo for breaking my stereotype about the place!

      Yeah, there's tonnes to shoot. I don't understand the need to keep shooting the same compositions every trip like some people do year after year. I like the classics too. But, digging deeper is what it's all about.

    Great vlog Brendan, everywhere you turned it looked like a killer image was possible. It seems like 5 images was more of a limitation than not getting 7 or 8. Drone footage was killer also.

    So true BSV. When you narrow the landscape down to the subject itself to make it look grand, especially in a huge scene like that, it looks way better. Rock solid tip.

    Great video! I like the idea of getting 5 +1 images. When ever I travel to the southwest I make a list of three must have goals with seven hope to do goals. Then I will have no regrets from the trip. More than likely getting any of the seven hopeful shots will make it a great trip. This fall I will be back to Great Basin NP, Arches NP and Cape Royal on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Thank you for all of the hard work, you inspire many!

      Arches is awesome! Hope I can get back there this year.

    • @shamuvoodoo
      @shamuvoodoo 6 лет назад

      My main purpose in going back to Arches is one small arch that photo bombs many images of Delicate Arch. It is seen on a distant ridge when you look through Delicate Arch. I want one good image looking back through that arch with Delicate arch in it. LOL
