One of the things this show was great about was displaying believable trauma responses. The differences between Kara and Saul are evident. Some are wallowing and need a push, and some are so broken they can't see the light.
Well said. Every time I watch this show, I gain a better appreciation for how frequently and compellingly it showed what happens when people get hurt so badly they can't see anything but their own pain.
It really shows the similarities and differences between the characters. They both suffered, they both have toxic coping mechanisms. But Starbuck lost something she only had on New Caprica, while Tigh lost something he's had for decades. Starbuck returns to her life on Galactica as it was before. Tigh returns to a big empty Ellen-shaped hole.
The 2 people that possibly suffered the most on New Caprica (although Tigh more so) - feel despite their rescue they lost everything down there .... the Adama speech was perfect, and the shocking wake-up call you'd expect it to be, when I first saw this episode I had a feeling one would 'snap out of it' & one wouldn't, but after all their time serving together, their friendship and everything else - I (possibly in a minority!) expected it to be the other way round! Another shout-out for the excellent Michael Hogan - in a show full of well written characters and great acting, Saul Tigh continues to be a standout for me!
Michael Hogan was magnificent in this show. He just a month or two ago made his first fan con appearance since his terrible fall and head injury a few years back. He gets around via wheelchair and he doesn't speak very well and he now wears an eye patch a la Col. Tigh. He also can no longer sign anything beyond a shaky "XO" with the help of his wife. I had to say hello and I gladly paid for his "XO" on a photo with Edward James Olmos as he needs such proceeds - along with those from the auction held earlier in the same Con - to offset his medical expenses.
Fun fact: Torn by Natalie Imbruglia is actually a cover. Yeah, I know. And we can now FINALLY call Sharon Agathon as Athena. Easier that way to differentiate from Boomer. Also, start your bets to discover who are the final five Cylons!
Remember Boxey? is he one of them? When I was watching the series two candidates were Hera and Tom Zarek. Both made sense at the time. I won't say if Iwas right. And yes, I do know Hera wasn't alive when we learned that there were twelve models. But the logic was - and is - solid. In my opinion, of course.
I always think of Baltar as 'what if Arnold Judas Rimmer was a handsome, charismatic genius.... but still exactly as neurotic, weaselly, cowardly and self serving as normal?'
Such amazing performances. And yes, watching someone you love spiral into self destruction is so heartbreaking, and at times I want to protect myself, at times I'd give anything to tale away their pain with a wave of my hand, like Q. It sucks so much.
The music and transitions in the Baltar sections really make his scenes feel like a dissociative episode (speaking from experience lol) and it’s a trip. I still listen to that song when I’m feeling…distant
Can't decide if I'm jealous that you are seeing all this for the first time, or if I feel really sorry for you for all the emotional turmoil (and what is yet to come!)
If the pals aren't stress eating, I don't know what I'm watching! LOL! Pushing through to a 2nd episode for it to be a 2-parter is cruel, but I appreciate the suffering for the art! The introduction of The Final Five!! Level up!!!
As seen in this episode, the character Athena here is named by the soldiers for one of the Sharon Cylon models. It is a twist on the BSG Athena character, which in the original 1978 version, Athena was Apollo's & Zak's sister (also note that in this reboot, the original Zak is respelled as Zac). The original Athena role was played by Maren Jensen, who the actress herself had some personal issues, so her parts got scaled back a little as the original series went by & then disappeared eventually. Also in some way, there were some physical similarities between Maren Jensen & Grace Park, where both had long flowing brunette hair, so it made some sense that one of Grace's Sharon models eventually got turned into an Athena of the original series. And both actresses are beautiful, of course. Also in actual Greek myth, Apollo & Athena are children of Zeus. You could also say that Adama is Zeus & for the fact that Adama was named after Adam, of Adam & Eve, by Glen Larson, who was Mormon (LDS). All of BSG has a lot of Mormon theology in it, with some ancient Greek mixed in, including in this reimagined version, although some of the theology was scaled back a tiny bit, but also inadvertently adding some other Mormon theology that wasn't in the original series perhaps, such as having "gods" instead of just one "God". 11/25/24
@@darrenrichardson6146 Not sure about the OG series, but here that's just what Zarek calls him. His call sign used to be "Husker" as seen on his Viper MK. Ii in the Miniseries.
Your first sentence is correct. Athena was a character, she didn't play Adama's daughter, the character was Adama's daughter. The actress played Adama's daughter
An important thing is said in this episode which everyone forgets by the final episode. Most people dismiss it as not important but it’s quite the opposite.
All of the 6's, including "Athena" seem to have had a very comprehensive storehouse of cultural literature installed as part of their "factory" settings.
Paula stalling by singing a huge chunk of a Natalie Imbruglia song is entirely too relatable, especially after the emotional trauma of the last episode. It's also another example of why I love this channel.
Another quality video of that time you were petting the cat and then all of the sudden it decided it would let you know that it was time to stop petting the cat!
A lot going on here , Starbuck comes back from the brink but how do you deal with Saul ? The past seems to be playing a part with the mysterious Cylo weapon ? Hopefully we'll get a few answers next time . Great reactions gals .
Maybe you should watch another episode? Just one more. What could it hurt? Great reaction. And it's time. Who are the Final Five Cylons?! I feel like this is the creators kinda saying to the audience, it's time to start speculating.
The Six that Gaius murdered on the basestar more closely resembles the natural hair colour of Tricia Helfer who by season 3 was complaining of the damage done to her hair caused by the contant dying for the Head Six character. There are lots of stand alone episodes in the 2nd half of season 3 mandated by the studio boss - some are really interesting whilst others are kinda meh but it'll all build nicely to another cracking season finalè. This was a great reaction, loving your post episode discussions. See you next Tuesday.
I may be wrong but I don't think "hybrids" are half human-half Cylon, when the Cylons call them hybrids I think they mean they are half Cylon-half basestar, they are part of the ship. Though I haven't watched this episode in several years, and your reaction never included any part where the hybrids are described to Gaius as being half human, so again, I might be wrong 👍 Fantastic reaction as ever though!
Ladies, time & again I advise you to always keep the emotional support narwhals within arms reach. I hope you have started to follow that advice from Part Two onward.
BEST! "To be Continued" reaction EVER!
Just wanted to stop in to say I love every part of your BSG reactions! Keep up the amazing work!
I second this sentiment
Thanks y'all ✨️😊 So say we all!
@@GallifreyGals SO SAY WE ALL!
Baltar at this point has saved and damned humanity so many times he is either the worst human or the worst cylon.
Omg THIS!!
Fitting because he really is The Worst
When I saw the reaction to the "To Be Continued," I thought "All this has happened before, and all this will happen again."
Y’all are so goddamned charming! Chanting “Be efficient” and realizing you’re getting distracted and NOT being efficient

Yes! It reinforces hints that have gone before, so it doesn't come out of nowhere.

I'm glad for the laughing after the emotional Starbuck (and Ty) scene.
Episodes like that one really remind me how frustrating it was to watch these back in the Netflix DVD days. 😂😂😂😂😅
It’s weird when you realize Colonel Tigh is the same actor who played the dad in “The Peanut Butter Solution”.
“ Why is he so..unclothed?”
