I really think this man knows more English then people perceive, he has stated he understands a lot he just isn't as confident when speaking it but it always surprises me how well he does speak when he chooses to. Jin is actually good at English too and had issues with speaking confidently before but has gotten much more confident. It showed a lot to me on Bon Voyage 3, love that series.
Okay but he has gotten to this army level where he managed to reference to at least other five random BTS things in a few minutes lmao They talking about seafood? "Oh I remember this video of v...", nam speaking in English, he gotta let his friend know about him doing it in a concert like Jjskdjjd
15:20 yeah so basically at the end of a word if it ends with a consonant character they have the 으 idk the reason for it but I assume it’s a rule in the Korean language not to end characters with a consonant (or something along those lines) hence the ‘eu’ - I know you be learning a little bit or Korean so the vowels are the characters that have a ㅇ symbol
Korean is basically a language that is structured by syllables. So when they transcribe foreign words to hangeul (한글 = Korean alphabet) there will be a letter left loose so they have to add 으 to make it pronounceable and writable. E.g. (1) Los Angeles -> if we don't make the addition of 으: 로ㅅ 앤젤레ㅅ and you can't let ㅅ be by itself, bc in Korean it doesn't make sense. So we add 으 , that not only now makes sense to Koreans, but also looks neater: 로스 앤젤레스 (lo-seu aen-jel-le-seu). (2) heart -> ha-teu -> 하트 (3) Rap Monster -> lep mon-seu-to -> 랩몬스터 It makes perfect sense that they do this, bc Korean is hard to pronounce to us and we often rely on transliteration to Latin alphabet, wrongly, bc latin letters CAN'T mirror Korean letters' sounds perfectly, and we pronounce their names wrong very often (e.g. 지민 we often write as Jimin and a lot of people say it american way, while it is more similar to "gee-mean" but softer). They have difficulties to pronounce English from the same reason and need this familiar structure to make English logical to them.
Basically for more a in depth explanation they add the 으 (eu) sound if the syllable only has one single consonant. If you remember what you learned in that one video, a syllable doesn't have a sound until you add a vowel. Because if the were to split up Los Angeles, they would say Los-an-ge-le-s out of habit from using korean rules. So also out of habit they would add 으 to the s (ㅅ) to make it (스) because otherwise it would be harder for them to pronounce and wouldn't make grammatical sense. Hope that helps
I didn't see it in the comments but Yoongi is fluent in English! It's just that he's said he doesn't feel confidence about his pronunciation so he doesn't speak up as much. (Plus he tends to be quieter in interviews anyways unless he feels comfortable. The interviews where he participates are always gold.) They've all been studying a lot recently and it's really inspiring to watch honestly!
You can always tell whether or not an interview has quality content by if suga chooses to participate. If the interviewer has intelligent and interesting questions he always jumps in. When it sucks, he just sits there and doesnt pay attention.
15:15 about the whole "eu" at the end of words things, Korean has a set number of sounds that can be pronounced at the end/bottom of a syllable. the "s" and "d" among others are not some of those ending sounds ("s" and "d" are then pronounced like "t" when placed at the end of a syllable). so for a word to end with the "s" or "d" sound, they have to add another vowel. 으 (eu) is the vowel used for that pretty much all the time when pronouncing words in English (or Konglish words). so that's why native Korean speakers that aren't fluent in English will add 으 to the end of some of their words. (also i left another one of your videos to watch this one 😂😂😂)
Yeah during dark and wild era these boys went all out on the eyeliner, hehe. As of now, perhaps the one that does the most eye make up is Jimin, his stylist put him in some beautiful Smokey eyes recently , but not so harsh on the eyeliner.
Suga actually went to an English academy so he's fluent...(i think he doesn't wanna show it because he doesn't want to do all the translating and shit lmao)
I think the power did go out for a sec. And that tony bit. What?! Thats what he sounds like. Lol. But idols talking in english is pretty funny. Another idea is idols getting scared/pranked
With my very limited Korean: almost all the words in Korean end with a vowel sound so when English is written in hangul for students starting studying the language - because of the rules of writing the alphabet the -eu sound (ㅡ) is added at the end of the words so heart is gonna be something like hearteu
You should react to Namjoon being done with BTS it’s hilarious. You can also watch Jimin’s petty moments if you wanna see more of Jimin being petty asf lol. I enjoyed it❤️
This is just so refreshing somehow to watch. I can kinda see how much effort they put in learning English cause their English now is just a whole lot better 👍🏼 Thanks for the reaction!
others probably said this already, but infires comes from inspire. In the Korean alphabet the P and the F sound has the same letter so they tend to mix it up, same with K-G and R-L.
LMAO Suga pops out of nowhere with the English but Beomgyu from TXT said that he went to the same English Academy in Daegu as Yoongi. They've all gotten so much better now though, especially Jungkook. I think Hobi and Jin's confidence when speaking English really helps, Hobi has a good accent when he speaks English. And the -eu sound is part of his accent, he doesn't do that anymore though lol.
Korean accents tend to put that “eu” sound at the end of words if that word ends in a consonant bc final korean consonants aren’t voiced like we voice them in English. You know that little puff of air we let out at the end of words? (Try saying “ship” or “dot” outloud) this is called “aspiration” in linguistics - korean final consonants aren’t aspirated. The breath stops behind your lips or teeth and doesn’t escape your mouth when you speak korean. Now try saying “ship” or “dot” again, but this time keep your lips or teeth in the same place as when you start the consonant and don’t let any noise or air or pop out after it. To circumvent this, koreans tend to add an extra weak vowel behind english final consonants to try to replicate that aspiration that english does that doesn’t come naturally to a mouth used to moving with korean consonants.
For the "insfires man" part: the question was asked to yoongi "whats inspiring you when u write a song" and he wanted to answer but he said something close to "insfire" instead khdskjds
The reason they add the eu sound at the end of words is because any consonant that ends a syllable in Korean is a closed sound. All consonants at the end of a syllable seal the mouth closed so no air comes out afterwards. So let’s take the words tack and tab and tap and tag and tat: in English they sound totally different because we bounce onto and off of our consonants with a puff of air - so all of those words sound different to us because of the way we release the air after the final consonant. If you say those words, but don’t let any air out after the consonant, they all sound exactly the same. That is the way Korean mouths and tongues have been taught to work. A consonant after a vowel stops all sound and closes the throat from all air. So in order to make the sounds that make these words different, they have to add a vowel to the end of the letter so their throats open up again. So tack tap tab tag tat are all the same sound in Korean, but ta-keu ta-peu ta-beu ta-geu and ta-teu all sound different. Same thing with the written word. There is no way to write an open ended consonant in korean because there is no such thing, so school books teaching English add the letter ㅡ (eu) after any consonant that is supposed to be an open sound. And that’s why there is a U sound all over in English most western languages spoken by korean speakers.
The way korean is structured there are RARELY cases where consonants blend. Such as “st” or “nd” sounds. So in Korean, “stop” (a one syllable word) becomes “seu-top” (a two syllable word). And words like “dream” (one syllable) becomes “deu-reem” (two syllables). As a general rule consonants must be paired with a vowel in between. So for koreans it feels very awkward to say words like “tired” smoothly which is why Jhope says “tiredu” and Jimin says “los angelesu.” Also another reason is when these words are written in korean they end up sounding different because Korean and English use different letters and rules. It’s all really interesting!!
also the sort of eu sound that the boys added to english words in the past is like "korean english." dkdktv has mentioned it before but it's just a very common accent when koreans speak english.
Namjoon's accent when he speaks English is heavily influenced by a bunch of different regional and international dialects. When he is in America, the British sounds only come out momentarily. But if you listen closely, you can pick up Northern, Southern, and NY accents. But when he interviews with British reporters, the British accent comes out more. It's kinda cute.
you were correct there round 15:20 it has to do with word structure, its similar with japanese (studied some so thats how i know). lmao yeah rm said inspire and they thought it was infires XD. but also they definitely had more dark eyeliner when they had the darker hip hop style. i think the heavy eyeliner mostly stopped after the dark and wild album, and i think makeup got less heavy in general too.

Don't know if someone already commented this But when you write english words in korean (hangul) most of the time you have to add 으 ("eu") so that you can write it, because two consonants can't be written next to eachother in hangul (I mean there are exceptions but who cares lol) For example ice cream 아이스크림 (icEU cEUream) You have to add the ㅡ under ㅅ and ㅋ to be able to write the characters ((아잇ㅋ림) doesn't exactly work 1. because when ㅅ is the last "part" of an character it's a "t" sound 2. ㅋ has no "partner" and single characters make no sound I hope you understood lol I'm terrible at explaining I know Just scrolled down and saw people already explaining this but oh well...go me

honestly loved this reaction :)
Yeah I can't get enough of shut up Malfoy😂😂😂😂😂 love when RM does his English accent 😂😂😂cant get enough "shut up Malfoy" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
also the sort of eu sound that the boys added to english words in the past is like "korean english." dkdktv has mentioned it before but it's just a very common accent when koreans speak english.
lol my first time watch Tony's MV from your vid 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“When I look at myself in the mirror I run away” 🤣🤣🤣 me affffff
😭
Namjoon's accent when he speaks English is heavily influenced by a bunch of different regional and international dialects. When he is in America, the British sounds only come out momentarily. But if you listen closely, you can pick up Northern, Southern, and NY accents. But when he interviews with British reporters, the British accent comes out more. It's kinda cute.
I’m having expensive girl flashbacks!
you were correct there round 15:20 it has to do with word structure, its similar with japanese (studied some so thats how i know). Jin actually said Z like british people do. We dont say zee, we say it zed when speaking out the letter.
Jin was saying ZED instead of ZEE for the "z" in the pizza, cuz in many countries they don't say zee they say zed also in india and australia.
17:19 RM sounding like Barack Obama, my fav RM video in the world
lmao yeah rm said inspire and they thought it was infires XD. but also they definitely had more dark eyeliner when they had the darker hip hop style. i think the heavy eyeliner mostly stopped after the dark and wild album, and i think makeup got less heavy in general too.
Silent watcher here. I Really gotta say that camera focus game is so strong it makes your room look like a backdrop LOL
Suga's sneaky good at English
My favorite part of this video 15:40 lmfaooo 😂
BTS debuted towards the end of the 2nd Generation K-pop era where idols wore thick eyeliner
lmao Paul loved Namjoon’s British accent 😆
AHHHH U POSTED AGAIN
Omg Tony’s music video tho 😯👍🏽💯
Suga can speak english. Believe in him
They were tryna say inspire😂😂
Those were the good ole days😭💜
the tony video ctfuuuuu sounded like he was holding back a cough
Is it just me or is it way funnier when RM messes up on his English? Probably because we expect him not to mess up but when he does it's really funny.
When the lights flickered I thought I blinked
im still shook by this quality, lookin 4k tf
That song had me rolling in tears😭 come on Tony do better, still my guy though 😭
2:15 why is he in slo-mo the whole time skkssksk
Living in the Midwest be like “did the power just blink or did I?”
the 으 at the end is for consonant endings! only adults are supposed to use them between other adults/familiar people I think,
15:40 you weren't trweaking lmao
At 4:52 that face had me Wheezing 😂😂
Tony sounds like some water went down the wrong pipe and he’s just stuck 🗿
yea in korean whenever you end a word with a consonant you usually add a 'eu' at the end because of the rules in hangul
Why is nobody talking abt how he said jhope prolly likes that mcdonalds sprite with battery acid in it 😭😭😭
Tony made music?...That's what it sounds like....? LMAO LET ME KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT BEFORE I SAY SOMETHING I WON'T REGRET🤣
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
The it’s raining cats and dogs outside part is super weird to me cause it was probably the same time we’re around I live it was poring rain as well
THE POWER BLINKED 4 SHOW
It's funny how he says international Playboy but he gets so shy around girls
There's another funny vid about them speaking english called namjoon being done with bts englidh. Its even funnier!
7:24 Careful, you're talking about BTS's true main rapper there.
Korean words don’t really end in consonants so it’s hard for Koreans to use words that actually do end in consonants so they end up adding vowels at the end
That camera quality crisp
2:14 I'm new here and did he just call me a potato?? 😂😂
You should watch [rookie king BTS Ep 4-2] revealing what BTS boys had on their mind. So hilarious ...
Don't know if someone already commented this
But when you write english words in korean (hangul) most of the time you have to add 으 ("eu") so that you can write it, because two consonants can't be written next to eachother in hangul (I mean there are exceptions but who cares lol)
For example ice cream 아이스크림 (icEU cEUream)
You have to add the ㅡ under ㅅ and ㅋ to be able to write the characters
((아잇ㅋ림) doesn't exactly work
1. because when ㅅ is the last "part" of an character it's a "t" sound
2. ㅋ has no "partner" and single characters make no sound
I hope you understood lol
I'm terrible at explaining I know
Just scrolled down and saw people already explaining this but oh well...go me
