But live your best life! You're a busy business woman, extremely well spoken, and beautiful. Zero percent imposter.

It annoys me how someone trying on a liquid lip gets millions of views while other people who put in real effort get ignored by youtube. How many lip product videos do we need?! Most of my subscriptions are for specialists like yourself.

I don't think I can properly express how grateful I am for your videos and how much I look up to you, but I can say that learning about wearing corsets from you has saved me from being bedridden and opened my life to many enjoyable hobbies, as well as reigniting my interest in science and research. I enjoy all your content, including your sewing and non-corset topics, and I will definitely watch whatever you post!
Thank you for your work ♥️

Literally Everyone: For 10 years, Lucy has been the No.1 expert on corsets on the internet
Lucy: I feel I have imposter's syndrome in the corsetry community
    Literally Everyone:
I recently noticed how dull RUclips is becoming. It's gotten so slick and polished, and never recommends me anything new or interesting. If I wanted professional advice, I would buy a DVD or join a course. I miss how the old internet of blogs and videos was more about community building by people who were really enthusiastic about niche subjects and it was accessible to everyone without any kind of hierarchy.
Now with all the professionals, it feels as fun as school and feels anonymous, unrelatable and kind of conformist, with a weird dash of hero worship for certain "gurus" thrown on top of it. I feel bad for new creators starting out now, cause they really don't have a chance. I am so glad to have found people like you years ago and love watching your content!
PS I think how RUclips puts people into a box of just talking about one thing is also really boring, hope more people start breaking free!

Your health is what is most important, and your happiness right up there with it. You don't owe anyone your pain, not even your subscribers. (I say this as someone who fights intense chronic pain and the little voice in my head that says I should be willing to just endure significant pain because other people can do the same activity without pain. But the voice lies: it's not a reasonable thing to demand of us.) You do not owe anyone tutorials that would require physical pain from you to make.
I'm kind of in the intersection of circles, cosplay, history bounding/learning, and corsets paired with modern clothing. While I love the history bounder and history reproduction youtubers, I'm not ever going to be making my own corsets, and to buy a reproduction corset is a long-term goal because of my situation. Those history-focused youtubers usually don't have insight into modern corsets and their makers. Your experience and knowledge of the modern corset landscape is tremendously valuable, your understanding of quality/how to navigate a world so complex to people like me who are wanting in but also can't just make one or hire a custom made right away. Not to mention your guides on how to corset SAFELY.
I get the historical focus has been more prominent of late, but not a single one of the many history focused youtubers I love can teach me how to acquire a decent OTR corset that I can wear with clothes I already have for a price I can afford and how to be safe in my entry into this world. That's been you.
So thank you. Thank you for how you have been, and however you will be in the future.
I'm so sorry if this comment is too assertive or personal to come from a stranger on the internet, I just really wanted to say you're amazing how you are, however you want that to be.
I don't think the people who follow you here want you to be in actual pain to entertain us. You aren't an idea trapped in our little internet boxes, you're a whole person.

Dropping in late to say I agree 💯%. Each creator is different with varying viewpoints, focuses, personalities, backgrounds, etc and all are valid and interesting.
And that self-care is most important, whether for physical, emotional, and/or mental well-being, and sometimes that means taking a break or re-evaluating. 💗

I appreciate your sincerity so much. When you talk about the "cool kids club", you put words on why the costube community makes me so uncomfortable despite the fact that I love to watch the big costubers videos and I love too see a huge interest for historical sewing. I feel like it is a small bourgeois club where many great people are not welcome, despite all the inclusivity rhetoric they use. The algorithm makes the problem worse. This platform disrespects the content creators and seems to push only the big professional video makers. I turned the notifications on and wish you the best

I find it interesting the sudden interest in historical corsets and bustiers, but I'd say that you are very much in the game and still have a lot to add to the topic of corsets. You've been making really good, comprehensive and practical content on corsetry over the last decade, which honestly is hard to find. Also, I find it amazing that you work so closely with customers and people that are interested in your line of work. From one WOC sewist to another, I'd encourage you to examine whether you have "imposter syndrome" or if you are aware that support (both communal and systemic) does not enable your thriving. Find your own place on RUclips or pull back, it's totally up to you. But imposter syndrome makes it seem like its something wrong with your thinking and I don't think that's the case. I think you've taken a look at the landscape, read it correctly, and made the best decision for you.

@@LucysCorsetry Maybe is too much, but I must say it. You are honest, so I would also try. Remember this clip, where you showed us your first corset made by you? Then, in my mind emerged an idea, that I can sew. And I could sew myself a corset. Crazy idea. I went to Pinterst, cause I was so poor as a student (civil engineering student).. And I learned everything by myself. Of course I took 2 year weekend course in local clothing industry high school.... but It was not so professional as Lucy and other internet teachers.. I got a paper and learned more. Few years I was sewing for people - classic tailoring (at this place I knew I can't wear corsets and my heart was a little broken). And I moved up to be a technical designer - pattern maker. Now I am a professional in my craft. And guess who inspired me?

STEM has so much to contribute to the world and corsetry is no exception. In the form of artistic expression, nothing is more beautiful than form and function, anatomy is proof of that. History bounding is great and all but it's been done before (literally) art for self expressions sake is SO MUCH BETTER! One of my favorite things about your channel is that it's from a stem background. There's really not a lot of people that approach corsets(and really clothing in general) with a more scientific approach.
My partner gave me another way to look at imposter syndrome that may help you with it. Imposter syndrome comes around when you know enough to have an idea of what you don't know. There's always more to learn, and it's intimidating when you really understand how much you don't know. However, that awareness is that you is also a sign that you care about what you do, are doing it to the best of your ability, and are aware of areas you can improve. These are all signs that you aren't just pretending to be something.
I'd be happy to watch any of the videos you put out, not just corset or hair videos.

I think your stem background is an incredible asset in the corsetry community, and something that is generally otherwise lacking in other content. I suffer from significant degenerative back and pelvic issues. When I first started researching corsetry for back support, it was your channel and website I poured over again and again, and I still refer back to years later. The information you provided helped give me some of my life back. I’m only able to function for a good day if I wear my hourglass corset from Timeless Trends. I rely on it when I need to be there for my family. I don’t think my journey into corsetry for back support would have been near as successful without your information.
I’ll happily devour anything you choose to put out. You belong, you have value, and you’ve been missed. But you also need to rest, especially if you suffer from SAD, so I hope you’re able to increase your sleep and find a way to have some quiet time to yourself. We’ll be here when you’re ready ♥️

Thank you Christina! And I’m so grateful that you mentioned that the TT hourglass corsets help with pain management and help you get through your day. If I could go back and change a few things to improve the pattern I absolutely would (it was drafted over the course of two weeks) but when we developed it, we prioritized comfort over what was the more popular ribcage silhouette at the time, and I’m so glad that it’s serving its purpose for you.

It can be very frightening when you fell unwell and have nowhere to turn for help. Please, when I say take care, I truly do mean it.. there is only one of you and you are a gem.

Thank you so much, TracyLynn! Oh my goodness, with something as serious as follow-up screens post cancer treatment, you should definitely be given priority. My pain is chronic but not life threatening, my treatment can wait (although it's a pain in the neck... hehehehe). I hope you are well, hoping for a clear scan for you!

On the contrary stem background can be sexy ever seen Big Bang Theory? lol. I love that your background still applies since you know the actual science behind our bodies and how corsets are affecting us. I love watching your videos! Keep it up either youtube or whatever platform is best ♥️

It’s so nice to see you again! Yes, there are many new resources for corsetry but I know that some of these other resources still refer people to you and your past work for guidance. You just do what you need to. Personally I haven’t been as into corsets maybe because I have some extra covid weight but I like to touch base with various resources and I am one of those people who watches your videos in large part because when it comes to corset knowledge, it still starts with you!

How about virtual consulting/collabs with some of these more able bodied and better equipped creators?
Other ideas: proper measurements on other body types (like with bellies and men) etc, a daily routine vid, your medical journey and patient advocate stuff if you're comfortable sharing that, bloopers/outtakes/cautionary tales in corsets, TikTok and YT reaction vids for hair and corsets, or a website/online shop tour.

Congratulations on your marriage!! Please take care of yourself. A lot of online content is not necessarily "who is most qualified to give this advice" but "who knows enough info to share and is willing to put the time into helping people." Although I would definitely consider you THE contemporary corset expert. I've noticed when I go on your site that you still update those Ebay listings regularly, and I appreciate it so much! (And it's definitely not required that you need to continue ANY work that you don't want to do/can't do/feel burnt out on, and taking breaks or even quitting outright is healthy and doesn't need to be justified.)

Thank you so much, I'll take these words to heart 💗 I'm so glad you love the Ebay page though! It's one of the sloppiest pages I've ever built (I put almost zero effort into formatting) but I'm glad folks can look past that and enjoy hunting for deals. :)

As a seamstress with training in historical/stage costumes and a master craftsmans certificate I really think all those new costubers are a big problem. There are so many who tell you absolute bullshit and they get hyped up and go viral because of a good filming technique or because they have friends who are known in the costuming community or they are pretty. And when you tell them in a nice way with explaining what's wrong with the pattern of the corset and that they are wrong they make a rant video about bodyshaming *cough* Nicole Rudolph *cough* If you put out educational videos you should be open to critisism when you do something wrong...
And well..that's why I always loved your videos. You know anatomy and you know how to draft patterns and what to look for in a corset. You know what to do when you have underarmsquish in a corset or a muffin top. You also know what the difference between long and short-waisted is.
Of course you made modern corsets but they do not differ too much from late 19th century ones. A corset always needs to fit and I learned that from you. You are one of the reasons why I started sewing a few years ago and to like making corsets. I learned most of my corsetry skills from you with your videos and I'm so thankful for that. I still recommend your videos to (historical costuming) beginners because your videos are really really good and helpful and sewing in a busk was the same 150 years ago. The techniques stayed the same. Only the fit is a bit different.
Yes, it's a bit sad, that you're not able to sew anymore but I still love your videos and hope that you will continue them, because I always learn something new from you.
And congratulations to your wedding! I hope you're super happy and that you can see your husband again very very very soon! (Haven't seen my boyfriend in over a year because of the pandemic and closed boarders in my country, so I know how hard it can be.)
So long story short: Love your videos - old and new ones. You are one of the 'realest' and most skilled youtubers we have in the costuming community and I hope you make more again. Many hugs to you! It was nice to listen to you again for a bit :)

Thank you so much for this detailed response - I don’t know if it’s my schadenfreude or just the relief of being validated, but so nice to hear another, refreshing perspective on some of the problematic angles of the latest fad. And thank you for sharing my videos and supporting my channel over so many years.
I’m so sorry that you and your boyfriend have been separated for so long. I hope the situation improves for us both, sooner rather than later.

Dear Lucy, it is wonderful to hear from you. Want to say you always have my support and you are incredible. I have learned so much from you, and you have helped me get started in waist training. I just bought the Libra in black cashmere from you and I am a big fan. I get it, your struggles are very real to me too and I completely relate to what you are going thru. I'm a youtuber too and the fatigue is real. But one day at a time, you take care of yourself and put yourself first.

I feel you in the algorithm issues. Because I don’t use social media my channel doesn’t get any traction so I do feel discouraged. But I have also found I am enjoying the girl next door channels more than the larger ones mostly because of the comment section not being flooded. So that’s a plus.

I can understand the pain with looking down and as someone in the art field it can be tough. What I do that really helps me is by putting my desk on tall bed risers and using a low chair. By having my armpits around the height of my desk it means I can work on embroidery or other detailed work for much longer.
