    Laramy-K Optical is a digital uncut and coating lab unlike any other. The only exclusively uncut lab in the country; we provide our customers with independent, high-end alternatives to corporate brands. Through craftsmanship, technology, and independent, innovative vendors like Younger, IOT, A&R, and Quantum Innovations we offer our customers the Integrity portfolio of freeform lenses and coatings. Made in the USA, the Integrity brand is not a generic house-brand, but is the absolute best available, designed to give the wearer that “wow!” experience.
    In addition to the digital line, we still offer conventional surfacing, including glass. Maintaining traditional equipment gives our customers vastly more flexibility in their dispensing, particularly when it comes to more difficult prescriptions.

    The only thing I forgot to mention in the video is NO WAIVERS!
    You either have the confidence, skill set and experience or you don't.
    You might tack a sign up somewhere about policy but no signing waiver nonsense.
    If your optician spidey-sense is telling you something is off then have the confidence to look them in the eye and say, "I'll be happy to straighten these out, they are pretty bad, I think it will work out just fine, but please understand if they do break there is nothing I am going to do for you." Get that, nod or "yes" before proceeding.

      Wish it were that simple. A signature on paper is worth more than a nod.

      The reason you have a frame in your hand is because they are ______________? You wouldn't be asked to repair and/or straighten a pair of glasses if they weren't already _____________________. So if the ________________ pair of glasses should break while you attempt to fix them doesn't that mean there is already an unwritten understanding about things? And seriously - what is the absolute worst thing that could happen? Play it out, write it out. I get it (maybe) if you are an independent optician scraping to get by. But any busy optical shop can easily afford to cover a one-off breakage of some kind. Remember you are buying at wholesale and you can ask the lab for a little help as well. And do you really think either side in this crazy arrangement is going to spend $200/hour for a lawyer over a $400 pair of glasses? Think like a businessperson. Think like an OpticianWorks optician.

      This is also comes down to knowing what you have in your hand. If it looks crazy expensive and you don't carry the line just say, "no." Three-piece mounting, high end, don't carry it just say, "no." "I'm sorry but we don't carry that line and can't get parts so should something break you'll be out of glasses. You really need to bring them back where you got them." No waivers necessary.

    i have to put in waivers because sometimes a frame has been tried to be repaired by the customer and they did a shit job on it thus i will always say i will try my best. so far i have never broken any frames yet but some frames just cannot be adjusted to factory spec. regarding cleaning, i do a thorough clean where i would disassemble an entire frame if time allows and let it bath in the ultrasonic cleaner. sometime i charge sometime i dont.

      No waivers! If you can't fix it without breaking it, say so. If you think you can fix it and break it, replace it without batting an eye, but showing humility.

    Could you give us the differences between an Optician certified by ABO, Optician Licensed and the test with ncsorb. Thank you

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  Год назад

      Dangerous territory and I could go on for hours. You can certainly join OpticianWorks.com and get a much better idea of exactly where I stand on it all. 1) Most of the time when someone says ABO they mean the written exam. The written exam is a multiple choice test with a low passing score. The ABO will hand out a certificate that says, Certified Optician even though they have absolutely no proof of competency. 2) Only half the state even require a license, license requirements vary state to state. A license is in place to protect the states consumers from possible harmful practices. It is NOT there for the individuals holding the license. 3) Until you wrote NCSORB I had never even heard of it. A quick glance and it looks like another attempt at trying to increase licensure in the misguided belief that it will somehow increase pay and respect. [It is a complete falsehood that opticians in license states make more - they just live in states with a higher cos of living.] I'll stop there. Glad you asked? ;-) John

    I work in the hinterlands and often my repair job is all a farmer or food plant worker can afford at the time but can't function without their glasses. I take immense pride if my repair and adjusting skills.

      @@rafaelamaya1978 My adidas frame broke and are unrepairable, and as you likely know adidas is no longer in the market. So I'm CAD designing replacement frames. Took me a while to get the pre-existing lens shape matched, now I'm on to the creative design stage.

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  Год назад

      Lots and lots of discount places out there. Everyone needs to work. A lot of people need glasses. I've nothing at all against the discount place or online either - but - you can't offer 3 Pairs For $99 and also provide free repairs and free parts that are worth as much as the frame. Business is business.

    How can we remove super glue from lenses

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  Год назад +2

      Acetone and very carefully. You can buy super glue remover online. Just keep it away from the lens edge as much as possible. Going to be tricky.
