I think it's messed up. He's dancing around and people are clapping. Like nobody listens to the words. It's not made up. Let's laugh and cheer about soldiers suffering. I found it creepy when I was a kid and I don't like it as an adult. My Dad was in Vietnam. He didn't care for this asshole either.
