I don’t know Loren Kelly Phillips, but there is a newspaper article from May 25, 1932, that reads... STUDENT COLLECTS GUNS Chippewa Falls, Wis. Loren Kelly Phillips, 18-year-old high school student, started to collect guns three years ago. Now he has 108 guns, which show the evolution of firearms in this country. That's it... the whole article. It was picked up by UP, which is similar to the Associated Press, and printed in The Klamath News, from Klamath Falls, Oregon. Pretty neat tie-in to that 2-cent piece. Of course, I don't know... that might not be THE Loren Kelly Phillips, but the time-frame fits! Great video, Daniel. I've always wanted to open a coin shop, but there's already one here in my tiny town in Texas! PS- doing a bit of a deeper dive, I found another article mentioning he was in a Harmonica Band in his hometown at a younger age of around 13, in 1927.
I have people bring me things like this all the time in my little town here in Ohio. I always buy the silver and gold stuff just to try and help them out. Be fair and treat them right and you never know what might show up. I stay clear of those so called errors lol 🤣
that was interesting. i myself cant help but acumulate the odities of our hobby.over time,i 've put together a small pile of exonummia. chalange coins, bronze placks(sp) and what have yous. keep up the good work...
Wow Thanks I like this! I really like the Mercury Dime cufflinks and the Rings !/Actually on RUclips they are people doing short any of the social medias doing the whole coin Ring Thing and then you got another huge coin guy Channel . Complaining about destroying old coins and turning them into rings 😂 the one channel that's deriving another RUclipsr to make contact of the other RUclips skill 😅.. at thrift stores and auction sites when I can find it since I got into the coin Hobby slash stacking I been finding my self collection this type stuff!
Stuff like this is why this hobby is fun. It's a pile of crap, but it's an interesting pipe of crap. Stuff with people's names engraved on them, stuff people have made out of them. It's a neat aspect. The coin is ruined but it's got a better story than most pieces. The Australian coin ring was really cool. That thing looked like it was well worn. And the initialed hobo nickels are certainly neat. I like screwing with some of my worthless coins. Take a toothpick and polish the just fields of an old british penny. Call that a hobo proof. They look pretty good if you do it diligently between all the letters and everything leaving the brown petina on all the relief.
Great items! I have a pair of cuff links that is mercury dimes. These are of year my dad was born. I bought them for my dad when I was in high school. I inherited them and will pass them on to my son.
I have some real cool Lincoln pennies rare I'd like to share some pics if you don't mind they look like if they might of been hit multiple times by the minting die now I don't know if its real or false maybe you can help plz
I like those things too. I've got some love tokens, and encased pennies, Indians and wheats, irradiated dimes, I like elongated coins as well. Someplace I've got a paperweight with a Morgan Dollar in it. Just stuff that catches my eye, good for tokens, and transportation tokens too. I've got a couple of train fare tokens from the town I was born in. I'm not sure if I collect, or I'm just a hoarder of oddities. 😊
Thanks for sharing Daniel ! The Hobos always fascinated me. I don't know how they do so good at them. (maybe we haven't seen the messed up pile..lol) I cant even draw a stick figure let alone carve into a nickel and get it right.
A nice collection of oddity, Daniel. I have a collection of wooden nickels around 300 of them that I have collected over the years. Thanks for sharing this video. It goes to show that there are a lot of things people will do to coins. Thanks again, and have a great day.
I stick with US coins, my wife will pick up any junk foreign coins and currency. She has piles of junk. I have piles of boxes full of PCGS holders. I'll probably die first and she'll sell it all to buy more junk. 😂

Captivating pieces indeed. If the coins could talk, I would be interested in all their stories. Thank you for sharing! Everyone, have a good day!
That is a thing about coin collecting that I really enjoy - thinking of where, when, and with whom a coin has lived its life.
Sorta cool stuff! Thanks
