I like how you portrayed Calypso as creepily possessive. I think a lot of animators kinda get lost in the sauce of her being lovey-dovey and forget that she did, indeed, keep Odysseus essentially prisoner for several years.

Well to me she's misunderstood differently, it's clear that she's used to having all she ever needed and ever wanted in her life and never truly matured because of her status as a goddess. She doesn't know what love and affection truly are because she probably only learned of them through stories.

It’s nice to see both though

Jorge intentionally did that. He has a video addressing how he intentionally made the last letter or sound of each other’s sentences match the first letter of the next person’s sentence. My favorite example is the transition from the word “time” to “I’m”. “Soon, into bed we'll climb and spend our time-“ “I'm not your man!” It creates a smooth transition between the two.
Athena shedding that tear was perfect, honestly it gets to me so hard with that line "He needs my help" LIKE SHE IS IN TEARS AFTER HEARING HIM SCREAM AND CRY FOR H E R!!!! I always imagine she's so sick with worry even more now, hence ofc going into god games no matter what.

Athena was always their for her half siblings (yes i know Odysseus is not a siblings but he is Hermes great-grandson so she is still helping a family member) like she may never have loved romantic but she deeply cares about her siblings. Probably because those are the only people the gods let her be close to. They have already tricked her into killing a girl she was close to and a certain god (Poseidon) is doing everything in his power to not let her have close friendships because he is still salty she beat him once, because she was smarter then him and knew what humans would love more then him.
I also kinda imagine that even the end where ody screams and cries for her isn't happening when Athena is watching, but is part of her catching up, so the only time he called out for her after polyphemus he got no response, and knowing that probably broke athena's heart even more cause in her friends lowest moment she didn't do anything
@mikuchis imagine how ody feels calling out to Athena for the first time in 8 years, the last friend he has alive only to be met with complete silence, there's also another theory I heard that ody calls out to Athena because in that moment he felt her presence again
2:00 I like how Calypso turns his knife into a flower. Great job on the animation. (I'm assuming she does that because she doesn't want him to accidentally get stabbed with what she does next)
There's something I've noticed once and again... She's using phrases that clearly meant something for Odysseus, so more than likely she'd heard him say those phrases in his sleep but she doesn't care for what they mean nor the weight they have on his heart. Now that he's been imprisoned and, in Athena's words, out of his control, maybe I'm his subconscious mind he was hearing those screams but not in his "conscious" until every hour they were louder and louder; until, with her meddling and use of those heavy phrases, Odysseus almost had a breakdown.
I personally feel like she just happened to say trauma related words while trying to be comforting. Like that person trying to speak platitudes to you they think are helpful but come across as condescending to the person listening. And as the next song shows, she is very aggressive but she doesn’t actually mean any harm to him. So it’s more likely she just unintentionally pressed his trauma button and didn’t understand what she did.
I think it's more indicative that she's aware of his past. "I love you, my dear/I love our time here/Life would be so much worse if you had died" Not "Life would be so much worse if you die", but "If you HAD died" she's not talking about now, she's referring back to a past conversation where he said he wish he had died. That along with the line, "I know your life's been hard" indicates they have spoken about his past before (there is more evidence if this in some cut songs that clearly state they've talked) And I interpreted it more as he's depressed from 7 years of reflecting his poor decisions and guilt that he sacrificed his crew to thwart a prophecy, only for it all to backfire (I don't think he happened upon an island where even the host can't leave by accident; the gods have been shown to give consequences and Zeus is no less petty, as seen in god games); for all he knows Penelope has moved on. What's the point in living then?
That part where the people Odysseus actually cares about being in the spot where Calypso is hit me like a truck. Really paints the picture odysseus is just tuning her out at and running off of nothing but rage and desperation at this point
OK... unpopular opinion. I do think that Calypso loved Ody in her own kind of messed up way. I'm not excusing her, but I wouldn't exactly stay sane if I were alone for a thousand years. And also no one can leave that STUPID ISLAND probably near Bermuda or something

She must have been lonely af, so seeing the first mortal in her entire existance shed want to keep It for company, and make It work by sharing her paradise. Cruel as the fate would have It, the one mortal that went to her island was both married and the most persistent/loyal man in Ithaca. Thats why she has 5 seconds of mental bluescreen before she says "anyways".

This is so good, I adore how you did the Underworld reprise section. Him being unable to face the ghosts of people closest to him, the exaggerated perspective of his tears falling into the camera, and even Calypso crying with him at the end
I’ve been waiting for someone to show her godliness at the line “bow down now”. Vines literally making Odysseus bow down? Beautiful. And Calypso grabbing his face? I love it. And the knife turning into a flower? Perfection! This is my personal favorite depiction of Calypso by far

This has SO MANY amazing visuals! The way the light frames/shines upon Calypson, everytime "paradise" is mentioned? Framing her in this almost angelic angle, despite her beeing the antagonist? So pretty, and a verry smart symbolic disconect, which gives it something uncanny and threatenig in all the best ways! That spin shot at 2:25 ?! Might just be my favorite part of the entire animatic! Also the clear display of the power imbalance, through Calipso using her plant magic continasly? First to disarm him, than to make him bow, literally tossing him around and than to cut off his way? Such a good way to show that she hold all the strings, without making her directly violent!

THIS IS STUNNING!!! The transitions are so smooth, and calypso's design is so beautiful!! When she falls down after she clings to odysseus and does a little wiggle was such a nice detail. Overall all the details added are so smart and really help to get her playful but unnerving personality. And odysseus breaking down!! Chef's kiss.
The last scene while they both cry , I never felt the burden of this scene so heavy until this animatic, the impotence of Calypso to help or do anything for the person she believes she is in love and the pain of Oddyseus for all that he has lost and all that's tormenting his mind, wonderful, Idk what gave you the idea or portraying them there in such a way but it was the right call, It didn't hit me as hard as I watched it here and I listen to this musical at least once a week.
This does such a good job of showing calypso as powerful and only interested in her desires at first and then maybe hinting that she cares more genuinely after years of seeing ody suffering. Her idea of helping only hurting him more. And ody on the cliff, the emotions cut straight through to my heart. That shot with the tears falling down onto the perspective point bellow him was AMAZING 👏
But she doesnt. She is in the same realm as zeus poseidon and the suitors. People with too much power who think they can abuse and r*** the people below them
@@shalomproduction6367 i definitely dont think she's justified. I just liked the moment of her being affected by his cries. I think it makes it so much worse what she's doing to ody, seeing that she has a humanish side unlike poseidon or zeus that can do those things without a thought of guilt. She sees the pain she caused in part and cries but thats still not enough to make her free him. Thats even more selfish than a force of nature like the other gods just destroying because thats what it does. Its more relatable(to me anyway) to see a nuanced abuser because its true to real life abusers.

The part at 2:25 where Calypso switches spots with Ody was so frikin good! Such a clean turn and just stunning, also the tears!! It made that scene so emotional I was crying along with them
I think this animatic portrays perfectly Jay's idea of Calypso's island. I think many animators forget that this has to be a wonderful paradise, although it becomes a cage in the eyes of Odysseus. I like the effort put into detail here on the background. 😊 Also, it made me cackle a little how Athena's watching everything like on a TV and she can pause and play the scenes at her own will. 😂

I don't know, but that's my reading on the subject...
Love your animatic, i feel like it shows more accurately how Calypso would actually be with Ody, like, essentially playing with him, toying him to go along with her, yes, also you give her an air of "innocence" (if that's what you call it?) that gives off the idea that she thinks there's nothing wrong with what she's doing, also, love the way that you actually show her power over the island through vines that control Ody or stop him from going somewhere

I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THIS MASTERPIECE. First the short hair design on Athena is just a perfect representation of her. Second the mannerisms and how the characters interact with each other are just so spot on especially with how they speak to each other. Third, the way calypso uses her powers to toy with Ody, and the LEAVES DROPPING HIM INTO DIFFERENT SCENES IS SO CREATIVE. Going into my favorite part (the depressing part) ODY'S FACIAL EXPRESSIONS (especially at the scream) ARE JUST SO SPOT ON. When he talks about what he has sacrificed we get to see the rock falling from the cliff but a piece of the rock still remains LIKE HELLO?? The way he moves his hands over his ears so he doesn't have to hear the screams then moves to his eyes so he doesn't have to see his comrades anymore?? SO GOOD. When Calypso approaches him from behind and morphs into Polites, Eurylochus, and his mother, its a representation of Calypso trying to be all of them for him but just causing him so much more pain. I also love the transitions from Polites to Eury to his mother, its very smooth. This has to be the best representation of this song so far and I am eating it up. THANK YOU MIKUCHIS!!!!
There are so many amazing details in this I could talk about but I want to say that literally every time I've watched a Love In Paradise animatic, I hoped it would overlay Polites's ghost on top of Calypso and every time before that didn't happen so I literally had to pause and cheer when it did happen in this one (also I love Calypso casually showing off her ability to literally manipulate the island with the vines).
I like how you had Athena break a tear at the end. Most Love In Paradise animatics make Athena serious and determined, but I always saw her tone as a mixture of both: determined to save her friend while feeling sorrow for him. Based on her tone, that’s just what I got.

THIS ANIMATIC IS AMAZING AUGH /POS athena’s design is very fitting (short hair suits her :3) and just all the little details like odysseus murmuring penelope in his sleep and being so excited thinking he’d returned home only to find calypso,, gosh calypso! she doesn’t really see him as a person, more of a plaything but the amused vibes while odysseus denied her was on point. AND WHEN SHE SAID OPEN ARMS and he kept thinking of the people he lost?? that moment was so good!!! kudos kudos to u this was awesome!

Yes. I love the animations you did here! From Odysseus sliding down jungle leaves, the spin from Calypso to him, or Odysseus at the cliff. This is one of my favorite full animatics of the song. Very nicely done, and the little bits after him saying who Penelope is, then “where tf?” 😂 That was beautiful.
I love this. All of it. The way the snippets of past songs were played beneath Athena's feet, showing how detached she was from them, now an observor to Odysseus' suffering. The way Odysseus thought he was home. The light on Calypso's island. Calypso's design!! The faces she makes, Odysseus's reactions to her behaviour, the flora and how she manipulates it, how Odysseus keeps trying to leave. The breakdown scene!!! The fact Calypso was crying too, because in her own twisted way she does love Odysseus, even if it's only as one might love a pet. Athena's tear!!! God, this is all perfect. I love it so much. You did a fantastic job. I really want to see you do Calypso's song that's in the next album. This is beautiful and you are very skilled. Lowkey jealous.
I love that Poseidon and the prophet both seem aware they're being watched. All of the transitions were beautifully done, especially the Calypso-Ody turn around which was damn seamless. My favorite detail though was the blood on his hands (presumably from climbing the cliff) when he's breaking down, adds in the metaphor while still making sense in the scene. Beautiful piece, this song always messes me up and this was a new level, teared up when Athena put her helm on to hide the tears. She's going to war for her friend

Your character design abilities are great, especially for the memory searching part 😊 I really like how uncomfortable Odysseus looks while Calypso seems so dismissing of his feelings, she seriously treats him as a pet, as he says. I also like how she actively uses her powers to physically make him bow down and then prevent him from escaping from her, it drives even more the point that she is a goddess and has all the power here. I actually thought she would use it again to prevent him from jumping off the cliff. The part where he is hearing the voices of his loved was so heartbreaking, how he is closing his eyes, like trying to block those memories but he can't block the pain, his expression really shows how much he is suffering, it breaks my heart. And Athena! I liked how she commands the clock thing, and the detail of her putting on her helmet at the end, she understands what she has to do now, and the single tear showing how much it hurts to see her friend like this. Such a beautiful animatic! ❤
aaa thanks SOOO MUCH!! it really means a lot :') regarding not using her powers to keep him from the edge - at first i thought of doing that tbh! but i liked a bit more the idea of her just being Used to him having breakdowns like this and just Knowing what to say to him to make him stop- like she subconsciously gets in his head yknoww also i feel like at that point after spending so many years together she would've grown to be a bit more empathetic? like actually learning a bit how to interact w ppl, thus using her powers less to control him n stuff, i definitely think that if he WERE to jump off shed catch him with her powers somehow tho! last resort kinda thing ^_^
I loved the ending where he's bawling his eyes out and memories are coming back. He's so desperately trying to not kill himself and is on his last bit on sanity. Poor Odysseus! Your portrayal of that bit was beautiful and made me tear up a bit! Really gave it more power!

dude this entire thing is amazing, but considering I don't see someone else commenting on it (unless I missed it), I adore the time dive part! The clock imagery that Athena is literally rewinding, and how each of the flashbacks is almost like a spinning disk. Just super cool imagery!!!
That rotation from Calypso to Ody was awesome! I also love short haired- Athena! It makes sense that a warrior would have short hair for several reasons no matter the gender presentation
What made this animatic for me was the crying scene. It is just so good. Him crying in the rain, calypso is on the ground with him after we see his haunting past. I love it
I like how you showed Calypso crying at the end, most Calypsos seem more frustrated or pushy on Ody to just calm down, but yours broke down with him, maybe finally understanding a little bit of his pain? Maybe not, still nice scene.
3:38 The visceral anger I feel when I hear Eurylochus' voice before Odysseus' mom. It's Eurylochus' fault that Odysseus' mom died. If that useless hypocrite didn't open the wind bag, Odysseus would've saw his mom alive.
This genuenly made me almost cry, I love your art style and the emotions are AMAZING, I like how you depict calypso as more controlling and more, well, like a goddess, playing with her surroundings and tieing Oddy. My favorite one so far, 10/10

Jorge intentionally did that. He has a video addressing how he intentionally made the last letter or sound of each other’s sentences match the first letter of the next person’s sentence.
My favorite example is the transition from the word “time” to “I’m”.

“I'm not your man!”
It creates a smooth transition between the two.

Athena shedding that tear was perfect, honestly it gets to me so hard with that line "He needs my help" LIKE SHE IS IN TEARS AFTER HEARING HIM SCREAM AND CRY FOR H E R!!!! I always imagine she's so sick with worry even more now, hence ofc going into god games no matter what.

Athena was always their for her half siblings (yes i know Odysseus is not a siblings but he is Hermes great-grandson so she is still helping a family member) like she may never have loved romantic but she deeply cares about her siblings.
Probably because those are the only people the gods let her be close to. They have already tricked her into killing a girl she was close to and a certain god (Poseidon) is doing everything in his power to not let her have close friendships because he is still salty she beat him once, because she was smarter then him and knew what humans would love more then him.
I also kinda imagine that even the end where ody screams and cries for her isn't happening when Athena is watching, but is part of her catching up, so the only time he called out for her after polyphemus he got no response, and knowing that probably broke athena's heart even more cause in her friends lowest moment she didn't do anything

There's something I've noticed once and again... She's using phrases that clearly meant something for Odysseus, so more than likely she'd heard him say those phrases in his sleep but she doesn't care for what they mean nor the weight they have on his heart. Now that he's been imprisoned and, in Athena's words, out of his control, maybe I'm his subconscious mind he was hearing those screams but not in his "conscious" until every hour they were louder and louder; until, with her meddling and use of those heavy phrases, Odysseus almost had a breakdown.
I personally feel like she just happened to say trauma related words while trying to be comforting. Like that person trying to speak platitudes to you they think are helpful but come across as condescending to the person listening.
And as the next song shows, she is very aggressive but she doesn’t actually mean any harm to him. So it’s more likely she just unintentionally pressed his trauma button and didn’t understand what she did.
I think it's more indicative that she's aware of his past.
"I love you, my dear/I love our time here/Life would be so much worse if you had died"
Not "Life would be so much worse if you die", but "If you HAD died" she's not talking about now, she's referring back to a past conversation where he said he wish he had died. That along with the line, "I know your life's been hard" indicates they have spoken about his past before (there is more evidence if this in some cut songs that clearly state they've talked)
And I interpreted it more as
he's depressed from 7 years of reflecting his poor decisions and guilt that he sacrificed his crew to thwart a prophecy, only for it all to backfire (I don't think he happened upon an island where even the host can't leave by accident; the gods have been shown to give consequences and Zeus is no less petty, as seen in god games); for all he knows Penelope has moved on. What's the point in living then?
That part where the people Odysseus actually cares about being in the spot where Calypso is hit me like a truck. Really paints the picture odysseus is just tuning her out at and running off of nothing but rage and desperation at this point

Cruel as the fate would have It, the one mortal that went to her island was both married and the most persistent/loyal man in Ithaca. Thats why she has 5 seconds of mental bluescreen before she says "anyways".

The way the light frames/shines upon Calypson, everytime "paradise" is mentioned? Framing her in this almost angelic angle, despite her beeing the antagonist? So pretty, and a verry smart symbolic disconect, which gives it something uncanny and threatenig in all the best ways!
That spin shot at 2:25 ?! Might just be my favorite part of the entire animatic!
Also the clear display of the power imbalance, through Calipso using her plant magic continasly? First to disarm him, than to make him bow, literally tossing him around and than to cut off his way? Such a good way to show that she hold all the strings, without making her directly violent!

THIS IS STUNNING!!! The transitions are so smooth, and calypso's design is so beautiful!! When she falls down after she clings to odysseus and does a little wiggle was such a nice detail. The last scene while they both cry , I never felt the burden of this scene so heavy until this animatic, the impotence of Calypso to help or do anything for the person she believes she is in love and the pain of Oddyseus for all that he has lost and all that's tormenting his mind, wonderful, Idk what gave you the idea or portraying them there in such a way but it was the right call, It didn't hit me as hard as I watched it here and I listen to this musical at least once a week.
This does such a good job of showing calypso as powerful and only interested in her desires at first and then maybe hinting that she cares more genuinely after years of seeing ody suffering. Her idea of helping only hurting him more. And ody on the cliff, the emotions cut straight through to my heart. That shot with the tears falling down onto the perspective point bellow him was AMAZING 👏

I think it makes it so much worse what she's doing to ody, seeing that she has a humanish side unlike poseidon or zeus that can do those things without a thought of guilt. She sees the pain she caused in part and cries but thats still not enough to make her free him. Thats even more selfish than a force of nature like the other gods just destroying because thats what it does. Its more relatable(to me anyway) to see a nuanced abuser because its true to real life abusers.

I think this animatic portrays perfectly Jay's idea of Calypso's island. I think many animators forget that this has to be a wonderful paradise, although it becomes a cage in the eyes of Odysseus. I like the effort put into detail here on the background. 😊 Also, it made me cackle a little how Athena's watching everything like on a TV and she can pause and play the scenes at her own will. 😂

I forgot to mention too that I like the detail on the cliff scene, where Calypso wears more discreet clothing. I don't know how much intentional it was, but guessing by the fact that the dress is showing less of her body, it's like she adopted the role of Odysseus' wife, obviously without this one's consent. I don't know, but that's my reading on the subject...
Love your animatic, i feel like it shows more accurately how Calypso would actually be with Ody, like, essentially playing with him, toying him to go along with her, yes, also you give her an air of "innocence" (if that's what you call it?) that gives off the idea that she thinks there's nothing wrong with what she's doing, also, love the way that you actually show her power over the island through vines that control Ody or stop him from going somewhere

I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THIS MASTERPIECE. First the short hair design on Athena is just a perfect representation of her. Second the mannerisms and how the characters interact with each other are just so spot on especially with how they speak to each other. Third, the way calypso uses her powers to toy with Ody, and the LEAVES DROPPING HIM INTO DIFFERENT SCENES IS SO CREATIVE. Going into my favorite part (the depressing part) ODY'S FACIAL EXPRESSIONS (especially at the scream) ARE JUST SO SPOT ON. When he talks about what he has sacrificed we get to see the rock falling from the cliff but a piece of the rock still remains LIKE HELLO?? The way he moves his hands over his ears so he doesn't have to hear the screams then moves to his eyes so he doesn't have to see his comrades anymore?? SO GOOD. When Calypso approaches him from behind and morphs into Polites, Eurylochus, and his mother, its a representation of Calypso trying to be all of them for him but just causing him so much more pain. I also love the transitions from Polites to Eury to his mother, its very smooth. This has to be the best representation of this song so far and I am eating it up. THANK YOU MIKUCHIS!!!!
There are so many amazing details in this I could talk about but I want to say that literally every time I've watched a Love In Paradise animatic, I hoped it would overlay Polites's ghost on top of Calypso and every time before that didn't happen so I literally had to pause and cheer when it did happen in this one (also I love Calypso casually showing off her ability to literally manipulate the island with the vines).

I like how you had Athena break a tear at the end. Most Love In Paradise animatics make Athena serious and determined, but I always saw her tone as a mixture of both: determined to save her friend while feeling sorrow for him. Based on her tone, that’s just what I got.

I love this. All of it. The way the snippets of past songs were played beneath Athena's feet, showing how detached she was from them, now an observor to Odysseus' suffering. The way Odysseus thought he was home. The light on Calypso's island. Calypso's design!! The faces she makes, Odysseus's reactions to her behaviour, the flora and how she manipulates it, how Odysseus keeps trying to leave. The breakdown scene!!! The fact Calypso was crying too, because in her own twisted way she does love Odysseus, even if it's only as one might love a pet. Athena's tear!!! God, this is all perfect. I love it so much. You did a fantastic job. I really want to see you do Calypso's song that's in the next album. This is beautiful and you are very skilled. Lowkey jealous.

I love that Poseidon and the prophet both seem aware they're being watched. All of the transitions were beautifully done, especially the Calypso-Ody turn around which was damn seamless. My favorite detail though was the blood on his hands (presumably from climbing the cliff) when he's breaking down, adds in the metaphor while still making sense in the scene. Beautiful piece, this song always messes me up and this was a new level, teared up when Athena put her helm on to hide the tears. She's going to war for her friend

I really like how uncomfortable Odysseus looks while Calypso seems so dismissing of his feelings, she seriously treats him as a pet, as he says.
I also like how she actively uses her powers to physically make him bow down and then prevent him from escaping from her, it drives even more the point that she is a goddess and has all the power here. I actually thought she would use it again to prevent him from jumping off the cliff.
The part where he is hearing the voices of his loved was so heartbreaking, how he is closing his eyes, like trying to block those memories but he can't block the pain, his expression really shows how much he is suffering, it breaks my heart.
And Athena! I liked how she commands the clock thing, and the detail of her putting on her helmet at the end, she understands what she has to do now, and the single tear showing how much it hurts to see her friend like this.

I loved the ending where he's bawling his eyes out and memories are coming back. He's so desperately trying to not kill himself and is on his last bit on sanity. Poor Odysseus! Your portrayal of that bit was beautiful and made me tear up a bit! Really gave it more power!

dude this entire thing is amazing, but considering I don't see someone else commenting on it (unless I missed it), I adore the time dive part! The clock imagery that Athena is literally rewinding, and how each of the flashbacks is almost like a spinning disk. Just super cool imagery!!!

What made this animatic for me was the crying scene. It is just so good. Him crying in the rain, calypso is on the ground with him after we see his haunting past. I love it
I like how you showed Calypso crying at the end, most Calypsos seem more frustrated or pushy on Ody to just calm down, but yours broke down with him, maybe finally understanding a little bit of his pain? Maybe not, still nice scene.
3:38 The visceral anger I feel when I hear Eurylochus' voice before Odysseus' mom. It's Eurylochus' fault that Odysseus' mom died. If that useless hypocrite didn't open the wind bag, Odysseus would've saw his mom alive.
