I love how athena is using vases to see the past, and when it cuts back to her there's a ton of broken ones, implying she frantically looked for the one who would show her friend
THIS is how Odysseus looks when I picture him after 10+ years of traveling, horrors, starvation, etc. Absolutely HAGGARD and HAUNTED. He’s not a young and confident king, he’s a traumatized husk of a man barely hanging on to a shred of sanity, sick with grief and guilt and longing for home.
To be fair to other artists, some of them might have trouble drawing more realistic/accurate depictions due to their skill level in art. I don’t draw realism at all, so I would be nowhere as good as this animatic. Which is why I don’t make animatics, because I know it’s not within my skill level.
@@CloutKamui no yeah that’s totally understandable, there are other depictions of Odysseus from other animators that I absolutely adore, this depiction is just most similar to how I see him in my mind!
Calypso physically holding Odysseus back while he claws towards the edge??? The grief that she can’t enchant away represented by the tears still dripping from glowing eyes?? The size difference moment?? The flashback scenes?? Holy fuck this is so beautiful I can’t cope
when ody puts calypso in a chokehold instead of holding a weapon towards her??? and when she shifts into a giant water being, HOLDING ODY IN HER HAND??? it makes it so much more threatening, which makes a lot of sense!! not to mention how ody looks after 7 years, like a literal husk of his former self…. knocked it out of the water once again! (pun intended) i also like seeing athena without her helmet throughout the animatic, it gives that feeling that she’s not trying to be stern or indifferent to ody’s situation, and that she actually shows concern
RIGHT?? the tables turn so quickly and it makes it extra scary- her tone is so light but she’s so dangerous with the way she can just pick odysseus up and he can’t fight back
It makes sense, Odysseus is explicitly said to have dropped his sword when Eurylochus and his crew rush to attack him before the shipwreck. I like to imagine that both Odysseus and Eurylochus survived the impact but because Eurylochus was still holding his bf-sword he was pulled down by the weight of it. Ah, where was I? Odysseus wouldn't have had a sword to defend himself (Or hurt himself)
I like how you used the glowing eyes of Calypso an indicator of her using her power and influence on Odysseus. And that she tried using it again to pull him back from the edge (physically and emotionally), but his grief and pain were so deep that not even a Goddess could cut through it.
shout out to the frame where calypso is initially grabbed by the neck- she looks like she's surprised but not entirely opposed to what could happen, given how her hand was drifting...
Honestly, your version of Calypso is very pretty, but she also scares me a lot like where she just turns into a giant water version of herself and picks up Odysseus. I'm just like oh
Is she a nymph? I know some Nymphs are daughters of Atlas, but considering she was the only one the Gods doomed to be trapped in an island, I always thought she was something more akin to a Goddess that can concede immortality.
i dont think ive ever seen anyone capture odysseus anguish like you did, this is sheer, utter ANGUISH. those expressions are haunting. As much as i love seeing other animatics portray the shades of everyone in odys life at the end, theres a certain ghoulish knife twist in having nobody but ody and calyspo in the scene, yet he stares off in the distance- we dont see them, but HE does. How you have him have wide open eyes as he begins to weep is also magnificent, ive had those moments in life where everything begins to be so much that you burst into tears without ever closing your eyes, some of the worst times in someones life. amazing.
I don't know if this was the intention or not, but I appreciate how both Odysseus AND Calypso look rather unwell here. The former's pretty obvious, the whole play's about his mental health going down the drain, but I haven't seen many consider the latter. Anyone who spent their entire life on a deserted island with no companionship or socialization or friends (and being unable to die) is probably gonna have their share of bags under their eyes too.
I love how you showed the genuine horror of the situation. Ody looks mortified of his fate. Calypso genuinely looks threatening. And even if she’s true with her feelings with trying to make Ody not jump, she’s still a manipulator and that’s shown so perfectly with her expressions towards the end.
Watching Odysseus desperately crawl to the edge of the cliff from beneath Calypso’s embrace was so heartbreaking. Suddenly it makes so much sense why he would cry out in desperation for the one person in his life who he knew would still be alive, no matter how far apart they had grown
I have to say it, THIS is the MOST heartbreaking animatic I've ever seen of "Love in paradise", the expressions, the way Calypso takes control over Odysseus... her WATER FORM?! It was just delightful 🛐❤
Fudge that hit me in the feels. That was a fresh take on Calypso. I hadn't considered her being able to transform. I really enjoyed how you captured her realization that even with her spell she couldn't help him.
Where do I even begin with this?? This rendition makes Ody’s situation even more dire… None of the other animatics I’ve seen portrayed Calypso as being so powerful and creepy - with Ody, by proximity, being so helpless And the anguish in his eyes, Calypso’s crying because she knows she’s doing literally nothing to help his grief… this made my heart sink. It’s so heartbreaking and beautiful
hold onn, what if Odysseus can't see Polites, his mom and Eurylochus bc he no longer remembers them? My man just heard the voices of people he used to know 😭😭
@@joanacchioh fr?? now knowing this makes it even sadder bc it's true 😭😭 And what do you mean?? it is already perfect. you did an amazing job as always 🫶🎉💞💗
@@joanacchi nononono i gotta disagree, see it puts us separate from ody- and that makes what hes going through WORSE. We cant see what he sees, only how it destroys him. Is it actually him seeing the shades, or is the guilt literally killing him? in leaving him alone you put even more focus on odys anguish, something i think you were the best at, this isnt a portrayal of pain in a byronic sense, this is pure TORTURE. We see the culmination of every little whisper and doubt ody had in the past 7 years just... unmake him
No matter the animatic, Calypso is always thirsty, Ody is always depressed, and the audience is traumatized. Thank you for the great work! Also, holy Athena, your Oddyseus is so hot!
God the sheer terror in 3:41 is heart wrenching and even a bit disturbing. An old, tired and depressed Odysseus reliving his trauma and old memories, friends that he fought in a war with and died already almost a decade ago. I also like how aged up he seems. Sure, he could maybe be around 40's, but it seems like all the stress and what hes been through made him look sooo much older
@@joanacchi I love it. I think some people are afraid of making Odysseus not attractive. And by this is making his hair, despite longer, tidy, an aesthetic beard, rock hard muscles like a body builder, and handsome, young looks throughout the whole sagas. Yes, its up to interpretation of course, but its not realistic for a man who has been away from home in a war and then lost in the middle of the ocean for like 20 years
@@JoaoPedro-eq3hj I am enjoying the exploration of both tbh hahaha I love drawing hot buff Ody but this scene really did not call for it! I'm working on some concept art to show how he changed too~
@@joanacchi Oh yeah i mean, im sure Odysseus was hot in his younger years (Ig buff is more up to interpretation, since i always saw him as like a warrior of the mind, so not really abt how his physical strenght, id see more Achilles or Heracles as huge buff men than Odysseus but i fr get you!). But i think its a bit unrealistic when they make him like this super hot guy even after spending all those years trapped with Calypso
Jojo I just got through watching it and this is incredible. Absolutely stunning. I love the use of amphoras as a way to look where Odysseus has been since that was popular way to convey information in the Ancient Greeks famous events. The detail work on. Scylla and Cerci was absolutely stunning myth accurate, which is incredible. The factor you actually showed calypso using her powers since she’s a goddess by making her part of the water and much larger than Odysseus was fantastic. When Odyssey has calypso in a chill cold, and then she shifts into water to get out of it and then transform into a giant water forming in the ocean and then hold Odysseus like he’s nothing more than a pet is such an awesome display of her It’s like she was singing down to him like he was a pet a novelty to her fast forward to the seven years later she’s actually grown to actually love him and not as a novelty and there is suffering from PTSD from what he’s gone through and he’s on the Cliffside and you see many similarities of the yard stare, and the fact that her eyes are glowing and she’s crying and pleading with him. And you can see that they’re both tormented but for different reasons because deep down she knows she can’t keep him, but she’s doing everything in her power to try and keep him anyways, and that’s just breaking him down further you did a fantastic job illustrating this and this is something to be extremely proud of especially the facial features and the body language
@@joanacchi the fact that you took time to illustrate how powerful calypso actually is with not showing her full range of power when they first meet is incredible and this looks like storyboards from a movie. This is very well done. I can’t stop gushing about how awesome this animatic is.😊
Dkdkfkfkfk Oh my! I LOVE this so much!! The way you showed Calypso's powers as a water nymph? I am in love with it!!! And dont let me go on how calypso's holding ody back so he doesnt jump while her eyes glow. Like, dayum. I know I'm rambling but Jojo is my number one animatic artist in this fandom.
ooooooooooh I love that Calypso has physical and literal power that she uses to control Odysseus beyond just trapping him there, and Athena breaking all of the pots in her attempts to find what happened to Odysseus
I love this video, I felt the pain the dispair, the power dynamics. No matter how sweet her words are, you can see clearly that he's a prisoner and suffering. Yet somehow both are. I just love your work, fluffing amazing.
The way you depicted athena going through the memories of odyseuss is so interesting, the use of the vases is so creative 😚👌 Also the goddess large Calypso is both frightening and gorgeous , as all godesses should be lol
Such a hard song with all the coercion and trapped themes that are explored. I must say, however, I so love how you captured Calypso as both sweet and TERRIFYING!!
Oh I love all the versions of how Athena is looking for Ody, this one I like a lot!! Especially when you see in her second part that he has desperately been searching through urns trying to find him and is then pained when she finally do find him and realize what the last 7 years has been like 😢 And Calypso... That's genius to make her show off her titaness powers like that and make her big, litterally showing Ody she's in charge. Hate when she seem to influence him though, like she removing his chance to fight back a little bit more. 😭 And then how he looks so old and frail after those seven years, really showing what a toll ita taken on him physically and mentally and instead of trying to truly help, she tries to use magic again to keep him sane a bit longer so he won't jump, not realizing how that is a part of his pain and torment...
This is my favorite depiction of Calypso so far, a being that feels powerful, someone that makes Odysseus feel small, but yet does care and love him in her own way
Out of all the Love In Paradise animatics I've watched, all with their own excellent traits, this one feels the most visceral. How Calypso's initially playful but sinister use of her power to cow and control Odyssess evolves years later into desperation on both their parts is agonizing, how every frame shows she knows she's going to lose him to his despair one way or another, and all she has is her power, not his love, not his trust, not any way to bring him peace, just force, cruelty masquerading as love. The way she's clinging to him on the ground, him bowed and defeated underneath her and his grief, heaving, broken, and all she knows how to do is tighten her hold even more...god, this is so good. That final frame of Odysseus is everything.
Love the characterization of Odysseus here. He's not well-kept. He's spent the past 7 years cry on the beach every day staring longingly towards his homeland.
This Calypso is an actual goddess and i love it! I haven't seen anyone else show her god size form even though there are several of Poseidon and Zeus. And you're scenes are so DETAILED! I think I found my new favorite epic animator
These choices are amazing. Athena seeing Odysseus' story up to this point through the pottery? Calypso revealing her _true_ power through a size change after he tries to grab her throat? The white light in both their eyes that implies she's got a magical hold on him? The fact that even that magical hold isn't stopping him from seeking out that ledge or calling for Athena? Athena's broken pottery? It's all _so_ incredible. It'd be so simple to just tell the story as it sounds in the song, but you went the extra mile, coming up with things that fit the story perfectly but the song itself never even hints at. All the accolades.
THIS IS AMAZING!!!! I love how ominous she is when she transforms. Literally holding him in the palm of her hand looking down on him because she has the power here not him. And when she says “you’re mine all mine” how her eyes glow white and so do his to show she’s using her powers on him… Even in the end where she’s trying to influence him again his distress is just too strong. Oh em gee i love everything about this.
As an avid fan of watching fan animatics of specifically Love in Paradise, this leaves me speechless. The style, the smooth transitions, the perspectives, the way the characters convey their emotions and desires in their movements, it’s just unbelievably fantastic.
Oh I just adore your design for older Odysseuss. He looks so broken and hurt. Him reaching outwards with Calypso grabbing his waist was such a heart breaking image. Fantastic work
Waw, such a cool animatic, it had everything: Calypso being intimating and kind of a creep, but also genuienly distraught at seeing Odysseus suffer after having lived seven years with him; some Ody angstTM, with bonus points for the fact that the ghosts don't appear, wich truuuully makes us question his sanity; the features of all the characters, so well done, I love all their sharp angles and how you made Calypso soft and round in contrast... 10/10, no notes, will definitely watch again Ps: The hair ??? I love the way you draw them, they look always bring something to the characters, and they look so flowy and natural with the individual strands
You did amazing and thank you for showing calypso in this way shed probably be one of the strongest water nymphs of all seeing as shes a daughter of Atlas, shes beautiful too
when calypso eyes start to glow brighter as ody screams did anyone else think that shes seeing ody trauma and can hear the voices too or just me also the cliff scene is probably my favorite to see animated by everyone each so good
I love how you portrayed Calypso! So far I had not seen anyone go the route of Calypso being the daughter of Oceanus, and thus water being one of her major attributes. But I think it fits really well!
Instant subscribe. This was INCREDIBLE, from the character design to the vases telling the story of what Odysseus has gone through, to the fluidity of Calypso's powers. Wow. LOVED IT.
THE DESPAIR IN ODYSSEUS'S FACE AN THE ACTUAL SADNESS IN BOYH CALYPSO AND ATHENA ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Im going to send you my therapy bills... THIS IS A MASTERPIECE
You absolutely nailed this! The more realistic art style, the worn and haggard Odysseus look, it's all so emotionally effective! Another detail I love is Calypso's goddess reveal. It takes what's potentially a very tense scene with Odysseus holding her by the neck, only for her to literally melt out of his grasp and grow fifty feet taller: That's something to establish dominance and control. It's truly way more terrifying than her simply being a normal looking mortal, and it conveys so well to Odysseus that there truly is no way to escape.
Yours is the only animatic I've seen that, to my eye, has captured both the human and statuesque forms of Grecian art, in a way that makes the characters beautiful - I can't wait for your next one, if you're going to do more.
I love that you did not make Calypso a fully horrible person. While her methods and motives were not good, she is not bad. She truly wants Odysseus to love her back and to stay back. Not just for her sake, but for his as well. Wonderful take and Animatic!
I love that in your animatic Odysseus actually got violent with Calypso unlike other animatics where he just points a sword at her. I'm making an animatic and I have a similar idea. I think it makes sense for Ody to actually attack Calypso since after Monster he rejected the "open arms" ideology and started being cruel towards his enemies. he doesn't know who Calypso is and if he can trust her or not and he doesn't take shit from others anymore so he attacks any potential threat that he thinks he could defeat including her
I think you're the first person to have that intense "all I hear are SCREAMS" match up with Calypso physically dragging him away from the cliff and it's PERFECT
I love this so much! Athena trashing the vases looking for the smallest hint of Odysseus, the facial expressions (Calypso's 'this again' face when he's at the cliff was perfect) and Ody's haggardness, but my favorite was actually you not having the spirits of his lost show up. It made it feel so much more personal and real, his own imagination tormenting him rather than any possibility of actual ghosts or supernatural revenge. Just a man wrecked by guilt
Love this animatic!!! My favorite song from the Wisdom saga! When Calypso says”No one can come or go, my island stays unknown.”, she’s implying to Odysseus that Ogygia is her prison too. I’m glad that at least someone who loves the musical and Greek mythology actually knew that Calypso was a WATER NYMPH and NOT a goddess… But… when Calypso said that “last I checked, goddesses can’t die.” That’s partially true because they can bleed ichor. Aphrodite herself was wounded in the Trojan War as she rescued Aeneas
Think out of everyone's ive seen you brought that full pain out that Odyssus has kept in and is finally showing on his appearance I started crying, a lil, and my mom asked me whats wrong This is perfect.
Oh this is my favorite Calypso as seeing her being able to transform into a giant version of herself to display her power. As well as how she acts playful and tries to influence poor Ody mind. But it clear his grief and guilt is way to much that even she can't stop it despite her powers as she can't truly control someone's feelings and it kills her as she doesn't want to lose the only companion she ever had even though she is being cruel to him. And the way you PORTRAY Ody through this is amazing! I love how he goes to choke Calypso to show he is serious and threatening her. Only for his expression to change to horror when learns she's a goddess and thus unkillable to him. Leading to him being completely helpless and the expression he has after the time skip, he looks so HAUNTED. The grief is so strong on his face as his eyes are wide, close to flinging himself off the edge to make the pain and suffering stop as the tears flow. And Athene! I love how she sees through time using the urns and it water, but then at the end you can see she destroyed so many in her frantic attempt to find him. Only to see him screaming for her, the friend he cherished that he doesn't even know if she is even around listening to him anymore but still he calls to her. Motivating her to do something and save him before it's too late. All in all a beautiful Animatic that hits all the perfect notes!
Oh it's so good, even if Calypso has different origins (whether she's an Okeanid, Nereid, or daughter of Atlas) all almost always have a tie to water and maritime functions, so it's a super nice touch. I also love how much creepier, dismissive, and manipulative you made her, sometimes a lot of animatics don't do it in a way that captures it appropriately along with Ody's resistance and cornering happening
Agreed! Like people forget how unhinged and thirsty she was for Ody and in the real lore.... honestly its not hard to imagine an immortal lonely thirsty hot lady wanna hump a stranded hottie like Ody for 7 years lmao. Not saying its right obv but realistically and lorewise thats likely the case. She didnt even care about the wife, she just wanted him BAD lmao
Calypso looks so powerful in how she (literally) handles Odysseus. I've never seen her seem MORE like a goddess than in your animatic. It's so cool! Plus, I love the way you handled her expressions and characterization. Like when she cries with him, not liking to see him hurt, but is still reluctant to let him go physically, emotionally, and magically. To me, she seems like a powerful goddess who's gone insane in solitary confinement, but who's still got kindness in her, and a deep longing for companionship that'll drive her to extremes. I find that really fitting to see portrayed, given how gods seek emotional connections like mortals do, and she's deprived in a horrible way by being on an island where "no one can come or go." How you drew Odysseus' and Athena's expressions is excellent too. And like many others, I also like your using the vases for Athena's scenes. Just awesome work overall! 💖
Oh woe. I think this animatic has just jumped to being my favourite. The way you see his eyes opening and the hair being swept back before seeing Calypso being the one moving his hair… Seeing the absolute worn down and weariness in the face of a man who has been through absolute torture… Ody grabbing Calypso by the neck rather than a weapon that he probably would have lost in the last battle…. Calypso growing enormous and being part of the sea, and picking Ody up in her hand… The absolute hopelessness that Calypso can’t even pull this man back from his traumatic thoughts and visions, despite her charm spell on him… The visuals are just beautiful and the depictions of the characters are awesome. I’m so glad that not only Jorge and the team have blessed us with the amazing musical that is EPIC, but all the artists that dedicate their time to bringing the characters to life and sharing it with all of us.
This is utterly AMAZING. I love your Athena design and the way you approached how she was able to review the past, as well as the WRECK she created to find out the wreck Ody became. But also the implications of Calypso putting a spell on home, and how even that wasn’t enough as time went on.
Since this saga came out, I have been looking for a Love in Paradise animatic that matches the vibes I got from the song, and this animatic finally did it, I love it so much. I feel like so many people sleep on Athena in this song. One, I love the vases, incredible concept, and the details you add! Phenomenal, incredible, showstopping. I really love the emotions you show, too - this was actually the first and primary thing I had been looking for, was an Athena who truly seemed shaken by everything Odysseus had undergone in her absence. Your Odysseus! What a haggard, broken, desperate husk of a man! I love that, by the time he wakes up, he is already showing that "Do not fuck with me" energy and doesn't play, and you really see how even that fight - the only thing still holding him together - leaves after seven years of that. CALYPSO. I don't think I realized how much it was bothering me not to see until you did it, but the way you animated her not just slipping from Odysseus's grasp but in a physically larger, magical form! It really knocked home how little power Odysseus has against her, and I love the not-so-subtle implication that she not only controls the island but actually has him under her control directly via magic. It makes his attempts to exit this mortal coil that much more ... visceral. Anyway, this was amazing, thank you so much for sharing, you are INCREDIBLY talented.
My brother said when someone says open arms, he goes insane like when he comes home, his wife says coming out open arms, and he has a mental break down on the ground and that's exactly what she said, so he's screaming.
I feel like this song is just a way for each artist to visit 7 songs at once just to show off and make me want FULL ANIMATICS OF THOSE TOO. Your interpretation is excellent and i love the absolute power dynamic you show. You get that feeling that Calypso is entirely in control while feigning weakness and telling Ody how to act and "be hers". And her physically holding him back while he tries to leap from the cliff emphasizes the despiraton for escape and her arms being a prison from even death. Then her tears as if realizing in that moment she would have to release him eventually. That no matter what she does, no matter how she imprisons his body, his mind and soul are distances away that she can never cross. You captured emotion and myth well here!
Athena, Circe, Tiresias, Scylla and Calypso all hold first place for designs in my head!! They're all so gorgeous! I love the way you draw!! Especially how tired Odysseus is!
SO MUCH DETAIL OH MY GOODNESS! Your art style is absolutely gorgeous. I love how his past is told through the classic greek painted vases, and how when Athena sees what she has "let happen" due to her absence, she likely smashed the vases (with the pile of broken poterry during the "trapped for 7 years" line) Giant Calypso is horrifying! (/pos) Your broken Odysseus is truly haunted and is only seemingly still around because Calypso forces him to stick around. The shell of a man, truly
these designs fuck so much. i rly like aeolus's in particular and also CALYPSO holy shit shes sooooo prettyyyyy (her face at "my wife" lmfao. i love how intimidating she is here!)(also her smile is so gorgeous!!) poor odysseus. i love how he's older and so damn haggard while calypso looks exactly the same. then she triggered him with "open arms" :(
I think this is my favorite interperetation of Love in Paradise. I like how you had Calypso like magicking ody, and how she starts to share his grief and cries. The art is fantastic and i love this so so so so so so so much
i love how you draw old Odysseus (7 yeears time skip ), of all the animation yours truly captures the years that has been and how old he is Supposed to be
also calypso seems to put ody in a spell- yet at the end it doesnt work, it makes me think, does she finally see what ody sees? Also having the breathing be emphasized in his panic attack adds to the visceral portrayal
I need to fire my FYP, cuz it has no reason showing me this work of art 8 DAYS LATE!!! Rant time, this is the first Love in Paradise where all I felt was grief and sympathy for Odysseus, and I love how this Calypso isn't malicious but how her actions aren't doing anything to ease Odysseus's situation. Also your detail in their expressions, how Ody just looks like a mere fragment of what he used to be, and HIS AGING. Once again, you've churned out another beautiful animatic ❤️
calypso when ody is going towards the edge is so good, she's hugging him rather than pulling him away, keeping him for herself instead of taking the more practical approach of pushing him back towards the main island UGH
I've loved all of the animatics i've seen for Epic but I truly think this is one of the best and most compelling i've found for Love in Paradise, the framing and story telling is amazing!
Your style is so beautiful, and _;÷ flowy design of each character is so satisfying! I live the idea of the jars, Calypso becoming gigantic and the forshadowing when she puts Ody on the cliff - she does drive him to it.
But another thing could be that Calypso made sure he stayed as her "pretty little plaything"
Look up Jorge Rivera's "different beast" is basically about how his trials changed him. I think you'll like it
I like the regular jorge version better
Calypso physically holding Odysseus back while he claws towards the edge??? The grief that she can’t enchant away represented by the tears still dripping from glowing eyes?? The size difference moment?? The flashback scenes?? Holy fuck this is so beautiful I can’t cope

Water nymph Calypso? Oh this is going to be amazing.

How you have him have wide open eyes as he begins to weep is also magnificent, ive had those moments in life where everything begins to be so much that you burst into tears without ever closing your eyes, some of the worst times in someones life.
amazing.
Thank you, I am glad you like it!!! ❤ Thank you for taking the time to comment❤❤

Oooh yes! Thank you!!!
💯
I love how you showed the genuine horror of the situation. Ody looks mortified of his fate. Calypso genuinely looks threatening. And even if she’s true with her feelings with trying to make Ody not jump, she’s still a manipulator and that’s shown so perfectly with her expressions towards the end.
Watching Odysseus desperately crawl to the edge of the cliff from beneath Calypso’s embrace was so heartbreaking. Suddenly it makes so much sense why he would cry out in desperation for the one person in his life who he knew would still be alive, no matter how far apart they had grown

@@Abyssalbookwyrm still foul
I have to say it, THIS is the MOST heartbreaking animatic I've ever seen of "Love in paradise", the expressions, the way Calypso takes control over Odysseus... her WATER FORM?! It was just delightful 🛐❤
Thabks!!!🎉❤
Fudge that hit me in the feels.
That was a fresh take on Calypso. I hadn't considered her being able to transform. I really enjoyed how you captured her realization that even with her spell she couldn't help him.
Calypso putting a spell on him?!!!!! Right at the end??? Now that is some good shit
Where do I even begin with this??
This rendition makes Ody’s situation even more dire…
None of the other animatics I’ve seen portrayed Calypso as being so powerful and creepy - with Ody, by proximity, being so helpless
And the anguish in his eyes, Calypso’s crying because she knows she’s doing literally nothing to help his grief… this made my heart sink. It’s so heartbreaking and beautiful
Thanks so much!!! ❤
hold onn, what if Odysseus can't see Polites, his mom and Eurylochus bc he no longer remembers them? My man just heard the voices of people he used to know 😭😭
That was my thought process but watching again I wish I had put some shadows in LMAO Done Not Perfect is my motto tho
@@joanacchioh fr?? now knowing this makes it even sadder bc it's true 😭😭

@@FideosConTuquito hahaha thanks so much, I am really glad you enjoyed it!!!!!
We see the culmination of every little whisper and doubt ody had in the past 7 years just... unmake him
@@telkei3365 I like this hahaha ❤️❤️
No matter the animatic, Calypso is always thirsty, Ody is always depressed, and the audience is traumatized. Thank you for the great work!
Also, holy Athena, your Oddyseus is so hot!
I LOVE how different everyone looks- there’s so much variance in all their designs, and it adds so much life and realism to them.
Thank you!!!
That was my intention! 7 years is a long time to live under so much stress and guilt, his appearance would definitely come up older than it is
@@joanacchi I love it.
I could munch and crunch this art. And the vase thing when Athena is looking at Odysseus’s past adventures?? SO CREATIVE 😭😭🙏🙏
Thanks!!!

Omg thank you so much for taking the time to highlight your fave parts!!! I really appreciate the support and I am glad you enjoyed it ❤
@@joanacchi the fact that you took time to illustrate how powerful calypso actually is with not showing her full range of power when they first meet is incredible and this looks like storyboards from a movie. This is very well done. I can’t stop gushing about how awesome this animatic is.😊
@@jacobrengen and I really really appreciate your thoughts thanks so much!!!
@@joanacchi of course I always look forward to your animatics, and I appreciate the thought that you put in it
The tiny details of using that style on the vases and her moving his hair out of the way in a PoV - it really uplifts the animatic to see such effort
Thank you!!!
Hahaha omg I am glad you like it!!!❤
This looks so beautiful. I cannot wait to see how the tragic expressions between Odysseus and calypso are, especially the Cliffside scene
I hope I did it justice!
@@joanacchi you did do it justice. I left a full in-depth analysis of enjoyed from the video. I hope you read the comment.
1:27 is crazy☠️ she looks like she bouta do some serious crimes🦅🔥
Hahahah ❤️
She literally IS
ooooooooooh I love that Calypso has physical and literal power that she uses to control Odysseus beyond just trapping him there, and Athena breaking all of the pots in her attempts to find what happened to Odysseus
I love this video, I felt the pain the dispair, the power dynamics. No matter how sweet her words are, you can see clearly that he's a prisoner and suffering. Yet somehow both are. I just love your work, fluffing amazing.
Thank you!!! 🎉❤
And there isn’t anyone who can take the suffering from him
Holy??? This is actually so pretty?? The use of vase! The emotions?!?? You are amazing!!!
Thanks so much!!❤
The way you depicted athena going through the memories of odyseuss is so interesting, the use of the vases is so creative 😚👌
Also the goddess large Calypso is both frightening and gorgeous , as all godesses should be lol
Thank you so much!!
Such a hard song with all the coercion and trapped themes that are explored.
I must say, however, I so love how you captured Calypso as both sweet and TERRIFYING!!
Oh I love all the versions of how Athena is looking for Ody, this one I like a lot!! Especially when you see in her second part that he has desperately been searching through urns trying to find him and is then pained when she finally do find him and realize what the last 7 years has been like 😢
And Calypso... That's genius to make her show off her titaness powers like that and make her big, litterally showing Ody she's in charge. Hate when she seem to influence him though, like she removing his chance to fight back a little bit more. 😭
And then how he looks so old and frail after those seven years, really showing what a toll ita taken on him physically and mentally and instead of trying to truly help, she tries to use magic again to keep him sane a bit longer so he won't jump, not realizing how that is a part of his pain and torment...
Oooh thank you, I am glad you enjoy it!!
This is my favorite depiction of Calypso so far, a being that feels powerful, someone that makes Odysseus feel small, but yet does care and love him in her own way
As someone who has been banging the calypso sa allegation drum for several months now this by far has the most amount of allegory
Thank you!!
Hahaha omg! Thank you! ❤
Ooo I am really glad you like it!!❤❤
THIS IS AMAZING!!!! I love how ominous she is when she transforms. Literally holding him in the palm of her hand looking down on him because she has the power here not him. And when she says “you’re mine all mine” how her eyes glow white and so do his to show she’s using her powers on him…
Even in the end where she’s trying to influence him again his distress is just too strong.
Fantastic work
Oh my god this was so well made?!And the way Odysseus desperately drags himself even as Calipso tries desperately to hold him back :(
Waw, such a cool animatic, it had everything: Calypso being intimating and kind of a creep, but also genuienly distraught at seeing Odysseus suffer after having lived seven years with him; some Ody angstTM, with bonus points for the fact that the ghosts don't appear, wich truuuully makes us question his sanity; the features of all the characters, so well done, I love all their sharp angles and how you made Calypso soft and round in contrast...
10/10, no notes, will definitely watch again
Ps: The hair ??? I love the way you draw them, they look always bring something to the characters, and they look so flowy and natural with the individual strands
Oooh thanks so much, I am glad you enjoyed it!!
You did amazing and thank you for showing calypso in this way shed probably be one of the strongest water nymphs of all seeing as shes a daughter of Atlas, shes beautiful too
Thanks so much!! I love the water nymph aspects 😊❤️
Athena pushing Ody towards her with the flowers! I can’t! 🥹😍
when calypso eyes start to glow brighter as ody screams did anyone else think that shes seeing ody trauma and can hear the voices too or just me
also the cliff scene is probably my favorite to see animated by everyone each so good
I love how you portrayed Calypso!
Wow. LOVED IT.
Thank you!!!!
THE DESPAIR IN ODYSSEUS'S FACE AN THE ACTUAL SADNESS IN BOYH CALYPSO AND ATHENA ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
Im going to send you my therapy bills...
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE
This has gotta be one of my favorites animatics of this song. I love how you drew Calypso the way you clearly show how terrifying she truly is.
The fact that the one moment at the very beginning still haunts him
You absolutely nailed this!
The MELTING?! The constant “control” with her eyes lighting up followed by his to show that manipulation? THIS WAS SO GOOD
Yours is the only animatic I've seen that, to my eye, has captured both the human and statuesque forms of Grecian art, in a way that makes the characters beautiful - I can't wait for your next one, if you're going to do more.
BRO THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD WATCH- THE DETAIL, THE STYLE, THE LITERAL EVERYTHING? LITERALLY CHEF’S KISS! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
I am glad you like it!!!
I just came home from school! It already looks so cool! 0:17
Oooo 🎉🎉🎉
I love that you did not make Calypso a fully horrible person. While her methods and motives were not good, she is not bad. She truly wants Odysseus to love her back and to stay back. Not just for her sake, but for his as well. Wonderful take and Animatic!
Ok OK OK OK OK WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!! THIS IS SOOOOOO GOOOOOD!! WHY ISN'T THIS ALREADY THE GO-TO ANIMANIAC FOR THIS SONG?!?!❤
I love that in your animatic Odysseus actually got violent with Calypso unlike other animatics where he just points a sword at her. I'm making an animatic and I have a similar idea. I think it makes sense for Ody to actually attack Calypso since after Monster he rejected the "open arms" ideology and started being cruel towards his enemies. he doesn't know who Calypso is and if he can trust her or not and he doesn't take shit from others anymore so he attacks any potential threat that he thinks he could defeat including her
1:28 I love this moment in the song and how people draw her face like “oh….umm…anyways”
I Love how you have Athena pouring out the vases and such to look through time! And I love how tired you show Odysseus being! Wonderful job!
Thanks so much!!
This is so beautiful
Her not being able to pull him away from his grief physically and emotionally with her magic is amazing
Think out of everyone's ive seen you brought that full pain out that Odyssus has kept in and is finally showing on his appearance
I started crying, a lil, and my mom asked me whats wrong
This is perfect.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!❤
Oh it's so good, even if Calypso has different origins (whether she's an Okeanid, Nereid, or daughter of Atlas) all almost always have a tie to water and maritime functions, so it's a super nice touch. I also love how much creepier, dismissive, and manipulative you made her, sometimes a lot of animatics don't do it in a way that captures it appropriately along with Ody's resistance and cornering happening
Her son is Nauticus right? I was so much looking foward to tie her to water in a way hahaha❤ thanks so much!
Thanks❤❤❤
Oh woe. I think this animatic has just jumped to being my favourite. The way you see his eyes opening and the hair being swept back before seeing Calypso being the one moving his hair…
Seeing the absolute worn down and weariness in the face of a man who has been through absolute torture…
Ody grabbing Calypso by the neck rather than a weapon that he probably would have lost in the last battle….
Calypso growing enormous and being part of the sea, and picking Ody up in her hand…
The absolute hopelessness that Calypso can’t even pull this man back from his traumatic thoughts and visions, despite her charm spell on him…
The visuals are just beautiful and the depictions of the characters are awesome. I’m so glad that not only Jorge and the team have blessed us with the amazing musical that is EPIC, but all the artists that dedicate their time to bringing the characters to life and sharing it with all of us.
Thank you so much!
This is utterly AMAZING. I love your Athena design and the way you approached how she was able to review the past, as well as the WRECK she created to find out the wreck Ody became.
But also the implications of Calypso putting a spell on home, and how even that wasn’t enough as time went on.
Oooh I'm glad you liked it!! ❤
Thank you so much, I am glad you enjoyed it❤
My brother said when someone says open arms, he goes insane like when he comes home, his wife says coming out open arms, and he has a mental break down on the ground and that's exactly what she said, so he's screaming.
JUST got off the vengeance saga stream, ITS SO GOOD
I feel like this song is just a way for each artist to visit 7 songs at once just to show off and make me want FULL ANIMATICS OF THOSE TOO.
I am so glad you like it, thank you!! ❤️
I love how his past is told through the classic greek painted vases, and how when Athena sees what she has "let happen" due to her absence, she likely smashed the vases (with the pile of broken poterry during the "trapped for 7 years" line)
Giant Calypso is horrifying! (/pos)
Your broken Odysseus is truly haunted and is only seemingly still around because Calypso forces him to stick around. The shell of a man, truly
Thanks so much!!
The glowing eyes showing Calypso trying to use her power to keep Odysseus from going over the edge holy shit
This is by far the best portrayal of Odysseus’s grief that I’ve seen before. You did an amazing job.
these designs fuck so much. i rly like aeolus's in particular and also CALYPSO holy shit shes sooooo prettyyyyy (her face at "my wife" lmfao. i love how intimidating she is here!)(also her smile is so gorgeous!!)
poor odysseus. i love how he's older and so damn haggard while calypso looks exactly the same. then she triggered him with "open arms" :(
2:03 the way the song vibe changes to a more sinister/controlling sort is amazing fr 😭
INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! even down to the detail of her little hands being accurate in color shading!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 obsessed!
I think this is my favorite interperetation of Love in Paradise. I like how you had Calypso like magicking ody, and how she starts to share his grief and cries. The art is fantastic and i love this so so so so so so so much
Thank you so much!
i love how you draw old Odysseus (7 yeears time skip ), of all the animation yours truly captures the years that has been and how old he is Supposed to be
also calypso seems to put ody in a spell- yet at the end it doesnt work, it makes me think, does she finally see what ody sees?
Also having the breathing be emphasized in his panic attack adds to the visceral portrayal
Oooh I like that!
I am glad you like it, thank you!!
MUTT HEADED CANON SCYLLA😭💞💞
Yay!!!❤
OH MY GODDESS!! THIS IS SO AMAZING!! The attention in detail is incredible! My goodness, great work❤❤❤❤
i love how youve designed athena! the medusa detail on her outfit is just chefs kiss 😙🤌🏻
I just LOVE the original Medusa armor ❤️❤️❤️❤️
i think this one is the best version of the breakdown part of the animatics i've seen, dude looks like he's in absolute despair
Omg thank you!!! ❤
Loved how you made calypso big to show Odysseus her god status! Genius!
The glowing eyes showing the control Calypso exerts over him, and how much he's fighting it at the end, is a GREAT touch I wish I saw more of!
I’m so sad that I can’t be at the premiere because of school😭😭😭😭
Oooh its ok! It will be there when you get home ❤ thanks so much for the support!!
Np!
It's like through out the years he had been able to resist the hypnosis more and more so by the end she had to put extra power into it
calypso when ody is going towards the edge is so good, she's hugging him rather than pulling him away, keeping him for herself instead of taking the more practical approach of pushing him back towards the main island UGH
Loving Athena and the vases and Calypso becoming large to demonstrate her power. Lots of great, unique ideas in this one.
