  • MODULE 11: Endocrine Metabolic Diseases.
    These modules must be developed in the hospitalization wards and in the
    hospital outpatient clinic.
    The study of endocrinometabolic diseases will be carried out jointly between the 2nd and 3rd year, linked to the emergencies that are carried out in the Guard Corps in the first year.
    The topics to be developed will have a direct interrelation with the topics of the pathologies of the other systems of the human organism and will be, in this case, the regulatory system of a good part of the functions that govern life.
    The student must have minimal knowledge of the physiology of neuroendocrine regulation and hormonal production of the various
    glands that must be based on his experience as a comprehensive general practitioner and on that acquired in his career or in the time of familiarization.
    GOALS:
    • Establish the presumptive and differential diagnosis in Diseases
    endocrine and metabolic.
    • Indicate and Interpret complementary investigations in the study of these patients.
    • Refer or inter-consult with other specialties.
    • Guide actions for health promotion and prevention of these
    diseases.
    • Provide psychological support to these patients.
    • Apply the principles of medical ethics in the development of daily work
    to increase personal and institutional prestige and obtain a
    better quality in their healthcare work.

    11. 1. Neuroendocrine Integration.
    Knowledge of the hormones and regulatory factors of the pituitary gland by the hypothalamus. Regulation and feedback mechanisms. Types of feedback.
    11. 2. Hypothalamus-pituitary syndrome:
    Hyperfunction syndromes: special emphasis on Acromegaly: Concept. Diagnosis and clinical picture. Laboratory and imaging diagnosis. General aspects of treatment. Hypofunction syndromes: Sheehan Simmonds syndrome: Concept. Etiology. Diagnosis. Clinical picture. Laboratory diagnosis. General aspects of treatment.
    11.3. Thyroid Diseases:
    11.3.1. Hyperthyroidism: Definition; Classification; Clinical picture; Complementary; medical and surgical treatment. Thyroid crisis: Diagnosis and management
    11.3.2. Hypothyroidism: Definition; Classification; clinical picture; complementary exams. Medical treatment.
    Myxedema coma: Diagnosis and course of action 11.3.3. Thyroid tumors: Classification. Diagnosis of a nodule
    thyroid. Treatment.
    11.3.4. Thyroiditis: Concept, general classification. Diagnosis. Hashimoto's thyroiditis: Humoral clinical picture and Diagnosis.
    11. 4. Adrenal Diseases.
    11.4.1. Acute and chronic adrenal insufficiency: Concept, etiology. Diagnosis and treatment. Addison's disease. Addisonian crisis.
    11.4.2. Cushing syndrome: Etiology, clinical and humoral diagnosis. Treatment: General aspects.
    11.4.3. Adrenal tumors: general classification
    Pheochromocytoma: Diagnosis
    Primary aldosteronism: Diagnosis.
    11. 5. Pituitary Tumors:
    Classification, clinical picture, diagnosis and general aspects of treatment. Diabetes insipidus: Classification and diagnosis. Therapeutic principles.
