The legend says, in the 14th century the young orphan Angeline lived in La Romieu. She loved cats a lot and she even let them sleep in her bed and eat from her bowl. Then came a long period of cold weather which caused a terrible famine. People even ate cats, but Angeline hid her cats well from the villagers until the famine was over. But then the plague came and with it a lot of rats that ate the crops, so there was another famine. But Angelines cats and their offspring came to the rescue and drove the rats away.
