This reminds me so much of my first mtb an eastern slash 7” with marzoochi bomber and World Cup coil I got on marketplace for $600. I was lucky to have never ridden a good mtb and having pretty good bike skills from growing up riding bmx and moto ignorance was bliss. When I finally upgraded to a modern enduro it was like riding a rocket ship and everything was so easy. I think more people should experience mid 2000s downhill bikes
When I was a teenager I got to ride a Kona Stinky at a bike park for a couple runs, it was much better suited to the environment than my Dawg Deluxe and I wanted one. Never got to ride one again.
I rode a 2007 kona stinky for years. Now in 2024 in still rockong a canfield jedi. They were really far ahead of there time in terms of other entry level dh bikes of the era. Ive since tricked it out so its not exactly entry level anymore but yeah its great. Its still holding up strong. I can still find bushings and bearings, so ill keep it til i cant find parts or i break it.
I had a mongoose black diamond triple for a bit, back when it was new, and....... I liked it. It was odd, not a true URT design, but nearly. Upshot being, if you had the legs and didn't mind the weight (🫤) it climbed pretty well, which mattered in the days before up-lifts. Nobody liked them at the time, but everyone who tried mine was pleasantly surprised. Underrated and rare. The 4-5" travel models were bullet proof trail bikes. So long as you didn't mind changing all the bushes and pivot bearings once a month😂
You call them cheap bikes. But they were expensive, relatively, when they came out. And they ran better, and they pushed capabilities. As well as the riders, trails and courses were comparatively different as well. It all has ramped up and evolved.
Second Challenge and you can see the difference to jump/trick rider and who are the racing trail ride. Yeah and how we can see why almost every bike has gone to disc brakes now.
Grips, bars, stem and tyres is what we would modify. How about you use the same bikes as first video and update with a budget the shock, forks and drive train and do it again. See how much better the bikes are(n't) and show us what can be done. Keep up the good work
for me , no such thing as a cheap bike! they all cost in the end. 2-3-4000g later. might as well buy a new bike. but i love my 2005 santacruise nomad 26in its just fun!
Asif hes had them forks since 2005, i had just left school and dont think i have anything from them restarted my life from nothing about 3 times since then 😂😂😂
So, the only way to charge your e-bike when off grid is either a beat up old mini, an old VW T4 van or an expensive camper van. Not one mention of portable power banks? The mini was pointless, the T4 with a 3-pin plug sticking out the bottom was dangerous and the camper was expensive.
What is your favourite 'Cheap Bike' video that we've done?
The old school hardtails
Top Gear/Grand Tour style video on GMBN is what we all needed!
True are you excited for the finale of the grand tour?
@@Archiewood54 i definitely am. But the selection of cars in new series is meh in my opinion
The cheap downhill challenge is such a good reminder that Neil is an absolute unit on a downhill bike.
All of these are so fun! Honestly hard to beat Blake and Sam Pilgrim combo. Hilarious. Also Sam has the best quote about the best bike to buy.
No shit.... I had that Stinky and my buddy had that Mongoose at the exact same time. haha!
my first dh bike was a mongoose boot'r, it sent me on a long racing career that led me to a breif stint as a pro rider
These are the best GMBN/GCN videos
Love this, these vids are fantastic, you can’t beat a bit a bit of retro GMBN.
Love these long video uploads, just like the bike tour compilation, great content!
Loved the episode with Sam Pilgrim
I bloody love this challenge format. Love from germany.
I love these episodes
More please 🤟
ITS GREEN look at it
gotta be one of blake’s best lines
Yeah GMBN go top gear style awesome all they need now is a destination and a trash bike to fall back on if any breaks down 😅
Because I’m a poor, this has been very informative as to which Mtb I’m about to buy.
I like this videos thank you for putting this videos
Come to Allentown Pennsylvania to the trexler national preserve, you will have a blast on the 15 crazy trails, you name it, it has it

Oh my goodness! 4:19 That "big guy" are definitely huuuuuuge
Those bikes was my dream like ~15 years ago!
One day we will look at today's bikes exactly the same 👀

Brings back memories or shuttle runs riding my 2009 Glory DH1 😅
I love the free bike challenge. If anyone is having a bad day, watch this video 😂😅🤣😁
Yea I like those challenges. I remember when I was I little one.
Mongoose for the win , I would have picked it as well it's proper old school for me

Be interesting to see how a modern XC bike compares to a retro DH bike.
Beautiful 🚲🚲🚲
Can we have the song from the downhill challenge 1:22?
was this filmed years ago? Rich has hair...
And Doddy is there
On the Kona. If you took the rear shock and positioned it back by the seat tube it would handle better
What store you guys buys those bikes thank you

3 mates having a good time can't beat it ...
These guys are so talented they can take any piece of cr@ap and make it happen
You really can't, but remember a Bike is always nice! There's not such think as a bad bike 🤘
@@gmbn True, except "NO BRAKES", that is way above my skill level 😄😄
They are so much better on those "classic" bikes than I will be on my modern steed!
Second Challenge and you can see the difference to jump/trick rider and who are the racing trail ride. Yeah and how we can see why almost every bike has gone to disc brakes now.
I would love to see Blake being invited for Darkfest and ride the massive jumps on a proper big boi rig
After seeing some of the crashes this year we're not sure Blake would want to 😱
@@gmbn Oh yeah. There were a few :/. Safety first for ol'Blakey :)
Klein mantra on the downhill!
U both need to do this again on unusual bikes 😅
love to see.
Blakes switched to clips?
Yamaha has 40% off until August so surely for £2600 it's a winner.
Hey up how long ago was this video done Rich has hair and Blake has a severe haircut...lol
Body type?
DENSE
This is a old video ive seen this months ago
We've put together our favourite 'Cheap Bike Challenges' so you can watch them all in one place!
Can’t tell if serious…
Can't wait for more random tandom😂
Haven't you done this already...Ha!

I should watch to the end before commenting but Neil lost a point in the second round.
2 + 2 is not 3
Why's the seat up so high?
I have a hard tail 29 and I would have it way before any of those
how many helmets do theses guys have for the love of god.
Asif hes had them forks since 2005, i had just left school and dont think i have anything from them restarted my life from nothing about 3 times since then 😂😂😂

How did Rich grow hair so fast? lolololol
I have a massive deja-vu…
Edit: ah it‘s a best of… sometimes reading helps
Why am I up right now 😣
I cant help it isnt that a reupload
In motocross thats what we call a butt whip
yep, im too early
Need more metal parts.
More sam and blake
I wish I never sold my Kona stinky deluxe
My memory gone or this a recycled vid from a few yrs ago?
mongoose's seat was way too high... you should have cut it
Blake is the only one not being an arrogant jerk.
In order to do this clone of a top gear challenge, it needs to be fun to watch.
Anything with doddy in it kills fun.
These dudes be making new moutain bike riders look like trash when buying thier 8k bikes and can't ride worth shit 😂😂
why did you pay £100 for that junk, Uk has much better deals if you look around :D
That’s not a best of, just all your videos related to cheap bikes. 🫤
