My kids also love d the Mexican corn and they always bought food from the Mexican vendor walking his food cart through our apartments. I grew up in a town that had a hispanic majority and was rich in the culture and history. So I grew up loving hispanic food and candies. To this day, I'm still addicted to anything tamarind flavored. One of the things I use to do was go to my friend Marco's house. Cause his mom made waaaay better food than my grandma did (I was raised by my grandparents). And sometimes they would give me left overs to bring to school with me for my school lunch. Was always 1000% better than anything from the school cafeteria or from my grandparents.
I remember when my family used to pack me cultural food (I’m Korean) and I used to be embarrassed because I was different and begged my parents to pack me lunchables or something “normal”. Now I look back and see that they packed it because they loved me and wanted me to have healthy foods to eat.
What's funny is growing up, I feel like my school we begged kids from other cultures to share their food with us, like I didn't realize people experienced bullying for it because we with the crappy school whole wheat rolls and stringy pink chicken saw kids with amazing home cooked meals as kings
