This is three years old, but to take a proper fingerprint, you have to use a foam-like non porous material, and roll your finger from left to right, but not back. This should make a toast-shaped fingerprint, and you can use that. The touch sensor has to detect the skin, so you need to get something as close as possible, to emulate the touch. Same thing with the lipstick. By the way, tape is not recognized as a non-porous material. You can see your fingerprints on it without any special identification tools. You can also use touch-screen supported gloves.
iPhones use biometric scanning, which basically goes through a database of every single fingerprint recorded on every Apple device, to find the most similar thing, and it unlocks if it has the same pattern. Also, just saying, face-id is safer, because more people are impersonated by fingerprint than face. Adding a face-id requires an exact model, no closed eyes, it has to be the exact same.
