1) You cannot guarantee a a 50-50 male-female parliament, MPs are elected and you'd have no control over that. But I suspect that you mean Cabinet. 2) You don't want to guarantee a 50-50 female-male Cabinet, you want the best people for the job in the Cabinet regardless of gender. Side note: I do not agree with so called 'positive discrimination' and like 'affirmative' action. Gender equality means you treat people of all genders equally, although I do recognise how 'positive discrimination' can help create a society where all genders are treated equally I honestly believe it has not place when such high offices (of State) are concerned.
Honestly, I don't know about parliament, but the U.S. Congress is already so full of sh*tty people, it can only get better with a equal representation congress. Parliament could be fine, I have no idea. But if you don't know, U.S. Congress is having it's least productive time in history. I think my country needs a little (or huge) change. I would say, you say you are against affirmative action, I think you don't understand it. Affirmative action is just requiring that schools take the best candidates (or the candidates they want, not necessarily the best) from several racial groups. The only way in our current society we could have fair college admissions without affirmative action is if they were completely anonymous, and with the amount of personal detail that goes into a college essay, that's unlikely. Also, again speaking from a country that has systematically made it harder for black people to succeed, I think it's very necessary to have affirmative action. If you'd like me to go into the specific details of American discrimination and systematic racist, just reply and I will. Have a nice day!
Thalia I Hi Thalia. The UK parliament is bad as well, we have a terribly low number of female MPs and members of the Cabinet but the earlier isn't an issue easily solved - because of our political institutions most of our MPs are quite old and it's hard for anybody regardless of gender to break into the system. We do have female MPs and members of the Cabinet but they are easily in the minority. I can't say for the US definition but in the UK affirmative action doesn't "require that schools take the best candidates" but refers to institutions positively discriminating towards females/minority groups. I will also point to where I say that although I don't agree with positive discrimination/affirmative action I do understand how it can help create a more equal society, I'd also like to add that it is hard to argue with results. In terms of affirmative action creating greater equality in college admissions in the states I will not argue that it is not a positive policy or that the level of equality created is bad in any way, I'd just argue that it was achieved through non-ideal means. By way of you going into specific details regarding systematic discrimination against minority groups in America you don't need to, although I'm sure don't understand this issue half as well as you do I'm not interested in this turning into a lengthy discussion between two people with largely similar viewpoints, who both agree that affirmative action/positive discrimination creates a more equal society.
madbritishbelizian US affirmative action is a quota system in which a college (This generally only applies to state schools mind you) has to have certain amount of minority students. I think you misunderstood me when I said they have to choose the best candidates, I meant they would likely want to choose the best of any group. Just wanted to make sure that point was clarified, have a nice day!
Thalia I That does clarify it, it's the best from group X, the best from group Y, and the best from group Z. This is one of the reasons I don't like it, although I won't argue the point with college (or university as it would be in the UK) as I think everybody should be able to go to college (university), if only there was enough funding to make it free for all. In terms of promoting people to the Cabinet (my original point) I want the best people in the Cabinet, not the best from groups X, Y and Z, I want the best no matter which group they come from, infact which group they come from shouldn't even be a consideration. I hope this clears up why I don't like affirmative action or positive discrimination.
Happy 23rd Birthday Hannah!!! I hope the next year of your life brings you closer to your dreams and the person you aspire to become. You deserve the best and I hope that get it. Hope you have an amazing day cause you deserve it and your day should be as awesome as you. Love ya JJ
Happy birthday! I was once at a friends 19th (I think) b-day party, sat with all our friends and his older sister, playing never have I ever, and the sister would tell him to cover his ears as she told us all these stories for the things she'd done. not exactly the craziest thing, but it was funny
Happy birthday Hannah, my craziest birthday story is that when I saw John Barrowman on his first UK tour that included Bournemouth (my hometown), I was wearing pink fluffy flashing bunny ears which got me the opportunity to meet Mr Barrowman in the venue car park of all places.
well i have not had a birthday party in three years now because i have nobody to invite (im 15) so nothing really crazy but the most fun birthday party was when i was 5 and the party was okay but the part that was really great was right before, i was setting everything up with my mom and we were really bonding that's one of the best memories i have
OMG, TROUBLE IS AMAZING. I LOVED THAT BOOK. I WAS ON MY PERIOD AT THE TIME SO EVERY TIME I PUT THE BOOK DOWN, I COULD JUST BE LIKE "I AM DEFINITELY NOT PREGNANT. YASS. I HAVE A GREAT LIFE."
I finally figured out who Hannah reminded me of! If you watch Vervegirl's Carmilla, Elise Bauman who plays Laura Hollis not only sort of looks like dear Miss Hannah, but her mannerisms and body gestures are reminiscent of her as well. Completely random thought.
For my last birthday I had a house party and invited a bunch of people. I, of course, got drunk off my ass and went to bed around 2 because I couldn't stand straight anymore. However, the tv show-type event happened at around 3 o'clock, when a group of local punks came in and started threatening people with a knife. One of my flatmates called the police, the leader of the group got arrested in full on tv show mode (slammed to the floor and handcuffed in front of everyone), and we are going to be witnesses at his trial in May. So, yeah. The most ironic thing is that I was sleeping in my bed while all of this happened downstairs.
On my 18th birthday week I went to see Kaiser Chiefs on the monday, played in 3 concerts on tuesday, wednesday and thursday...then went out for family meal on friday!!! Screamed my voice out the first night and could not talk the rest of the week...
School trip abroad, the first 2 days of which were a couple of the students on the trip's 16th and 17th birthdays. A joint cake was organised... But something was lost in translation with the bakery, and they got an engagement cake instead... It was quite funny :)
happy birthday:) on my birthday my family wanted to treat me to expensive makeup and we ended up going through like 3 stores and i didn't find anything. so they gave em the money to go and find something myself and after like 3 hours of searching i came home with bare hands. when they asked me when i've bought i sad nothing and started crying unconditionally for like 15 minutes. i don't even know
The reason we don't have a 50/50 parliament is because we live in a democracy were we have a choice who we can vote for meaning to implement a 50/50 parliament people would have to be forced to vote in that way meaning we no longer live in a democracy.
Next door neighbour's 17th birthday, had a party while her dad was away and he didn't know. Invited about 40 kids, police got called and left, then a friend had a fight with her boyfriend that escalated and he got kicked out of the party. Fast forward to 3am, he threw a stone through the conservatory window, shattering it. The girlfriend was crying in the middle of the street, my brother chased the guy down the road as he ran and I had to take the birthday girl and wake my mum to comfort her....
Happy Birthday Hannah! I also wanted to read about 50 books this year and so far it is not going very well. So far I have read only about 6 books in January and none so far this month. But I was wondering if you had any book recommendations. If it helps I am 21 and female.
Can you do a video where you say all the books you have read and enjoyed please! I love reading but I always read the same things and in the same sort of genre
Happy Bday!!!
Happy Bday Hannah! :D Best wishes from Sweden
This was so funny, and I loved it so much! Oh, and happy birthday!!!! Best wishes x

Same feelings about 50 Shades.
Your headband is amazing
Great video
Happy birthday! I can't believe you're only turning 23, for some reason I assumed that you were closer to mid-20's.
Can you do a video where you say all the books you have read and enjoyed please! I love reading but I always read the same things and in the same sort of genre
Yay my birthday is the day after Hannah's woooooooooooooo
