Honkai Star Rail just released their newest character Firefly, but one content creator named Mina Aoyama recently found herself in a bit of hot water after a few hypocritical posts that changed the HSR Community's view on her perhaps forever... In this video I discuss everything you need to know about the Mina Aoyama situation and give my own opinion on whether her original statements on Firefly are correct or not, and how she could have gone about it in a differernt way to avoid this (deserved) anger from the Honkai Star Rail community...

Typical chronically online gacha player behaviour. Not really much of a surprise but disgusting nonetheless.
Besides being hypocritical, her sudden change of opinion is also missing the whole point of Firefly's character. She was born to fight and her entire life has been reduced to this armor she wears. But she wants to be a regular girl too, she says so very explicitly. She wants to go to school and have hobbies and fall in love. The MC appears in Firefly's trailer because SHE wants it, because she is Firefly and not only SAM.
THIS! and to me, it shows she doesn’t care about the characters backstory / past unless they fit her headcanons
like i always say, people STILL dont grasp the hidden meanings behind "Life Begets Death" and why this is the code to activate the Iron Cavalry Molten Armors, some simply dont understand, and others just think they understand it
for FF, some minutes of just being a "normal girl" are extremely valuable

Mina never care about canon or story on screen when she play she always about shipping yuri which annoys me by alot because she not focus on things that actually matter and goon over every female on scene.
I'm surprised how many people seem to miss the point of the "outrage". It's not about her giving her opinion, it's about the blatant hypocrisy.

@@abdulwaduod11 our first interaction with Firefly after meeting her is taking her out on a date. She's quite literally the MC's waifu so Mina saying he's being reduced to waifu bait is stupid. She went silent when she saw that last 10 second of that Firefly trailer (because it was Caelus who showed up, not Robin or Stelle). It doesn't help that she's deleting comments calling her out on her reaction video.

as someone who also really likes yuri but doesn't engage much with these communities online, i was shocked with the hypocrisy displayed by these others yuri shipppers. Thinking about it, its kinda weird she only reacts to the Caelus bit at the end when the flashbacks present on it also feature him.

To be fair the thing is that there’s no grounds for this shit at all.
Firefly is forcefully shipped with the trailblazers to the point that firefly just stops being a character.
Even in penacony she serves no real purpose other than just feels bait because she’s supposed to “die” 3 times.
Her being Sam adds nothing to her character because in her trailer they try to imply she’s fighting between both sides of her but then none of that comes up and she’s just sick dying girl.
Her character is just a hodgepodge of random stuff that you can’t really find any reason to justify this ship.
March is literally with the trailblazer every step of the way and cares a lot about them but you never really see people shipping them but firefly just shows up and acts like a dying puppy has everyone shipping

By any means she was essencial in penacony plot, otherwise everyone woud've be screwed

The second situation, was again something BS could’ve gotten us out of.
The last section is also a stretch especially considering we don’t really know how sparkle would’ve been able to pull this off anyway. Since it’s been established that if aventurine who got slashed by Acheron and he survived just fine I honestly don’t know how her bombs were really going to cause lasting or any real dmg.
The thing is this has been brewing under the surface for almost 4 years. The same attitude that leads Mina to say stupid hypocritical shit is the same attitude that leads others in the community to harass any artist that dares draw a straight ship.
Just looking at her playthrough of the 2.3 story, especially the part were you, playing as firefly, see robin, Mina imediately freaks out because firefly and robin are in the same room and starts shiping them like crazy and litteraly ceminishing firefly to a shy, helpless girl. And looking through this coment section, i see that some people have the same oppinion as me, that yuri shippers tend to be a lot more agressive with their ships. But in the end we can do nothing about it. It is like you said: everyone has their own oppinion, its just that some are more based on delusion than comon sense
We all view interactions between characters differently. Some may see interactions between certain characters as romantic chemistry, and some may not. Everyone just needs to learn not to fight over ships because they personally think one is better than the other. And this applies to all sides because trust me when I say that straight shippers like to get upset over an innocent ship just as much as gay shippers.
Do I hate her ? No. Do I think she's a hypocrite because she had problems with Caelus in the trailer but constantly raved about an Emanator of Nihility being shipped with a certain Memokeeper (Wow, I can't believe Hoyo would just reduce Acheron to mere Waifu-bait instead of showing off her strength) ? Yes. Do I think she's gotten more unhinged after she quit her fulltime job to be a fulltime VTuber and just surrounded herself with Yuri this, Yuri that ? Also Yes.
I personally watched her since early on in her Honkai Impact playthrough and just kinda slowly phased out when she finished it. Well, I say "finished", but she kinda just stopped after the Otto Apocalypse arc.
At the end of the day, she's just another content creator that I don't watch anymore for reasons that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things and personally will never interact with anyway, so any "drama" involved with her is no skin off my back anyway.
The main point of tbz is to represent us players in the game, tbz gender can be girl (stelle) or boy (caelus) depending on what the player choose, the mc are not like the traveler that are twins, the mc are the same person doesn't matter what sexuality the tbz has bc that depends on us the player and tbz in both genders are the same person. so yes mina was being biased abt it and we definitely know she likes yuri so much. Honestly just don't force your HC on other ppl
Stelle has always been the promo girl of every official trailer up until they decided to mix it up somewhere along 2.0.
In every instance Firefly went on a date, it's only been Caelus, Stelle was like literally one time and I don't even think it was a date. Showing these two are still their own different characters, just happened to have the same DNA.

I’m a yuri shipper as well. I’m probably just as down bad for yuri content as mina I won’t lie but I keep that contained to myself. I also don’t mind Caelus x Firefly because I see Caelus and Stelle characters as self inserts for the players. So if I see Caelus then my brain just thinks “oh I can insert stelle here instead”. I’ve watched mina’s content before and I personally think her tweet is just a weird way of saying “I’m disappointed Caelus showed up instead of Stelle.” I find it extremely hard to believe she just didn’t want to see Firefly as a waifu because that clip is pretty damning.

Her bias against Caelus is very clearly shown. Heck we ALL saw this in her video where Allegra, Sam, and Molly roast her in the sorter. She outright put Caelus LAST in that sorter while Stelle was SECOND right behind ROBIN.
Also, Molly did ask about this: "Why do you hate Caelus? He's the same as Stelle"

This opinion is the most hypocritical thing Mina has ever said and I never expected her to say it. I think she forgot that both male and female MC's are technically two versions of the same person, it's who we play, therefore it's going to be our pov at the end of the day. This is what she wanted, but she's blinded the moment she saw Caelus instead of Stelle. This isn't like Genshin where both genders exist at the same time, but are separated. We are whoever we chose at the start, and I guess whoever we don't choose gets discarded.

It’s weird to me to see Mina in controversy:
Awhile back, a vtuber similar in design to her did a hypocritical news video to takahata101, and his friend group, making hypocritical comments and biased takes.
For awhile, I was looking for that vid, since I made a comment debunking, and criticizing the whole thing, but I couldn’t find it because I didn’t know the channel name, nor the title, with the searches I was doing end up being void, and I assumed it was taken down.
I then found Mina, and her voice sounded similar to that, and the design and other characteristics were weirdly similar.
At the time, I asked some people around if they knew about the video, and asked if they knew if she did that type of content.
*No one responded.*

@@lazarperic4525 oh misread; basically, this was during taka’s early vtubing stuff, and apparently, he said something “homophobic.” When really, it was the stuff that him and the crew were used to doing, which the outsider couldn’t understand, as well as showing the DBZ abridged stuff thinking he was stealing recognition, without knowing that he was apart of the VA crew. (She took it that way, when really, it wasn’t that at all.)
It was basically all bs, and only like 7k people saw it when I found it (or 20k, I forget since this was like 9 months ago XD)
Surprisingly, a lot of ppl were defending her, and only a handful were actually refuting the claims.
TLDR; it was all smoke and mirrors, and nothing that should be taken seriously, it’s just something that I remebered since it pissed me off. (I like Taka’s content, and his dnd stuff is also good -when I’m able to tune in :/- so to see hypocrital takes with no backing get attention, kinda pissed me off.)

From what I noticed on the Honkai Star Rail, for the trailer on each ark, they tend to keep the same version of the MC that they started when promoting. Since Penacony ark, since the White Night trailer, has been using the Caelus on most of the promotional material, I believe that's the reason for him to be there.

Regarding Mina, well, don't know the person behind the avatar, but all her appearances makes it clear she is a lesbian.
They use both MCs arbitrarily. If anything Caelus tends to be the character of choice for the version "Opening" (Interstellar Journey, White Night) so far, while Stelle it's still featured on other trailers (Penacony Introduction and Closure video uses Stelle) independent of other things.
They interchange the TB in each trailer.
They use Caelus for the more serious promotion material for the most part, while Stelle is used for most of the joke stuff like the Trash can trailer for Penacony which I find is a good way to split them. I play as Stelle but I like the fact that star rail acknowledges two protag genders considering how Genshin never shows any alternative promotion of Lumine being the protag and Aether being the lost twin.
The problem is that HI3rd fans/players have been doing this to genshin AND HSR. And they have no issues attacking anyone who prefers straight ships. Mina didnt change her mind overnight. No no.. not at all.. she was angry because it didnt fit HER headcanon. So she spoke something stupid and rightfully needs to be called out for it. Same with every hi3rd yuri loving person... you dont get to act like a heterohobic POS and think you should get away with it. But these people that came from HI3rd... i expect nothing less of them.

I would define it better as "she beat around the bush in the wrong way" at best. Won't deny that even for Mina accusing Firefly as a "waifubait" character is pretty degrading. She could just said that she doesn't like her with Caelus instead of rambling that her character is ruined because she's kinda scared of the fanbase reacting what if she just said she doesn't like her with Caelus as with Stelle. Integrity and Credibility is one of the most important things a content creator should look for, and not going straight to the point and make up a fake reason to try to voice your opinion hurts it, I don't personally dislike Mina for that but I will say doing things like this will take a hit on her career for a very childish way of thinking, hopefully she will learn to be more honest.
That's funny because hoyoverse released couple of videos on firefly that really builds her as a heroin of her own destiny with a tragic past, and I can see why she and other person changed their view on Firefly, and I don't see it as hypocritical.

I do think canonically the male MC is the default MC as he's usually featured in all of the 'main' story patches form 1.0 - 2.0 so far. Whereas Stelle is in the 0.X trailers (though it does alternate at times). Still Mina does go overboard in her reactions especially when it's girl on girl (Blk.Swan & Acheron trailer reaction is very cringe) while whenever it's a dood like Blade or Boothill she usually goes 'huh a guy, that's cool....i guess' when reacting to a male character.

To be honest I think she’s a hypocrite because she basically contradicted what she said previously but overall I don’t think it’s not that big of a deal, as Mina doesn’t seem to be the type of person to want to cause drama nor farm it, However I think that the people on Twitter is also in the wrong considering that some of those people are too easily triggered and would rather do a bunch of name calling then actually criticize her in a respectful manner which explains why she ends up deleting comments and banning people as she’s trying to move on from the drama she unintentionally created. I’m gonna be honest: I think the Gacha community is just begging for drama. If this sorta thing happened in the bloody Pokémon community, I think people would laugh it off as a bad opinion and move on. But for some reason, in the Gacha community, this rather harmless if hypocritical tweet is considered big enough to make entire videos on. It all feels… incredibly petty? I’m not defending Mina by any means, but is her stupid tweet really worth getting so angry over? It almost feels like people are excited to have something or someone to be mad at. Cc’s act like Twitter is a super sensitive, drama mongering place (and it is) but I hardly think they’re any better; they’re just on the other side of whatever debate Twitter’s trying to drag everyone into.
Every person is entitled to their opinion and i cannot and will not judge another for said opinion. However, I’m not a fan of how Mina is avoiding admitting she was being hypocritical. Why is it always yuri shippers that do this, especially when there's a possible male character who threatens their lesbian head-canon pairing? I'm sure there are some tame yuri shippers out there, but the drama typically always comes from yuri shippers. I never see this level of vitriol from yaoi or straight shippers.
