    One big aspect people aren't considering is that wellstring can't hold a oneshot, and so definitely wont have the same backline/anchor capabilities as a tri stringer.

      Do you mean the hiding in ink while charged? Only reef-lux can do that. And not even for partial charges.
      There is a mechanic where the crosshairs contract and then expand with each other, letting go when all the crosshairs are in the circle has the power to one shot. These not fully charged shots are called "partial charges".
      And besides, with the shots inking the ground on contact while hitting the enemy with up to 3 of 5 explosions, that means it only takes one fully charged shot to kill 1-3 enemies.

      I think they mean that continuing to hold the button means you lose the one-shot. This will make it harder to say, camp a jump or aim in fast paced situations, due to having little time with the one-shot usable.

    Stringer main here. For context, I play regularly, but not competitively. Exclusively play Anarchy with Tri, and am struggling to break into S+ (keep doing well in series, then not making it through the rank-up). I have 5* badges for all 3 Tri's, and the og reef, 4* for the deco.
    I have never been more pumped for a weapon release, especially since we are getting two kits at once, being able to try the main while experimenting with an option for sub/special combos.
    It looks to me like the charge time and range are very similar to the Tri, if different at all, and this is pretty wicked. I would guess the shells do less damage than the max 35/shell of the Tri, but, if it consumes more ink (since you fire 5 shells), I could see it doing the same amount, which would probably seem OP. However, I do believe the skill ceiling and learning curve of the Tri is much higher/greater, so this could make sense. If you could do 105 damage to splat with a direct hit of 3 shells, getting a direct hit with 5 at the same power wouldn't necessarily make it OP on opponents, until you bring in shields, walls, bubbles, tanks, etc. It could potentially destroy even harder than the Tri.
    That said, I could see each she'll being a little less powerful on the V than the Tri, but or course we won't know 'till Friday (8pm EST!). I could see it either being slightly less damage/shell, or slightly more ink consumption overall, a la an explosher. This would make sense to me.
    Sub/special -wise - I think I'm most looking forward to the custom. Been wanting point sensor on a stringer since early on, as it just makes so much sense. Wave breaker is a fun combo, since all your devices having tracking ability, but agree that wave is still kinda meh otherwise. It dies quickly against me, using object shredder with the Tri, but will be more effective coming from a stringer, I think. Good way to control from a distance, and not make the WellString too OP with something like trizooka.
    Autobomb will be great for controlling movement in an agro way vs. the mist (which I love on Tri), and though I'm not a stamper fan, it's a good move for an agro kit. I'll probably end up throwing it a lot to get back to using my main after a tank refill lol

      I love the tristringer so much. It’s my favorite weapon in all modes except clams. Anyways, I’m totally ready to have a lethal bomb (I don’t even care about the special) and I agree, wave on this weapon should do some serious damage.
      I can totally see throwing the wave down and spamming spread shots everywhere just causing total chaos. It might be the sleeper bow we didn’t know we wanted or needed.

      @@sideeyes7480 so glad to hear from another true fan! Honestly, I've been seeing A LOT more tri-stringer users the past couple weeks. So cool to see!
      I even use it in clams! I'm not as useful as say a brush, but I still try to play heavy defense, and help get clams in the basket when it makes sense. All about timing and positioning!
      I totally agree. I have been hoping for a heavy variant of the Tri since it's early days. This k buckets - got the tri-slosher, then the sloshing machine, and the explosher. We will have a similar line in stringers now! I can't yet tell what will ultimately be my fav, but it will definitely be the WellStrings for a solid while!

      I've been a tri-stringer user day 1 of the game! I use the sprinkler version in clam blitz and splatzones, but the mist version for tower control and rainmaker.

    It getting less accurate after half charging means it’s half charge will be is one shot making it potentially better offensively than tri having about half the time to one shot

    As a bow main perhaps I can provide more depth of analysis: Very Green! Much Explodey!
    More serious comparison of Tri Stringer and Wellstring: (Note that this comparison assumes identical damage numbers for the individual bolts and tap shots which could very well be false because it will be easier to hit with more shots at once on wellstring)
    Tri at partial charge is a spread for chip and controlling space while full charge produces a tight, lethal, long-range cluster.
    Wellstring, which definitely has shorter range in all its firing modes, seems to invert this with partial being a tight probably-mid-range lethal cluster and full being a long-range spread. It looks like the wellstring may also have a short-range charged spread and if that still shoots the same number of bolts as the full charge that would mean higher DPS when using it defensively. Utilizing precise charge timing and angles is going to be highly valuable to get the precise range and spread you want. The wellstring's tapshots are short range, easy to hit with and easier to hit multiple shots with one tap. You can probably get two shots to hit pretty easily and may be able to get three at sword melee range.
    Paint-wise wellstring is more effective at painting a line across the range you're aiming at on both the tap shots and full charge shots but the charge shots drop just a few dots of ink and the tap shots are shorter ranged so the overall amount of ink may be comparable and will likely be poor at mid-range painting (tri-stringer tapshots can paint mid-range and it's charge shots consistently leave a line of ink with a gap or two in it).
    I think the wellstring may be a more aggressive weapon than the try stringer while still being able to hold space. The full charge can both constantly harrass at long range and provide good support to a push even when you don't have an exact location on the enemy. When the wellstring or the person it's harassing starts to close it can get out a tight, lethal spread faster than the try-stringer can but unlike the tri it can't hold that lethal shot (I suspect but am not sure the time to charge a centered cluster will be somewhat similar to squiffer). At mid range it will be more lethal but less capable of controlling space by spamming partial charges. So basically it can harass and support from long range while slaying at mid to short range when people try to close with it.
    Kit wise:
    I really don't know why they chose to combine point sensor and wave breaker. Both have strong synergy with the weapon regardless of current balance around wave breaker but they really don't work with each other. Far too much overlap in their use cases.
    For the second kit the autobomb is great. Even if you don't need to scout out an enemy location throwing the autobomb between full charged shots can deny even more space or potentially trap them between it and your bolts. It can delay people trying to close with you in some cases. The hammer could be a decent pick IF my prediction of the wellstring being a substantially more offensive weapon than the tri stringer pans out. It's also yet another way it has to punish players who try to close with it to avoid its harassment.

    i think it solves a huge problem. I've 5 starred two bows, and almost have 2 more, and this may provide just enough area damage improvements to solve the tri-stringer's "how many times do i need to hit them!?!" frustration. The tri has been undertuned and never touched, hence the difficulties using it in comp.

    It might turn out to be a rainmaker niche.
    It’s a stringer, so it could have the best rain maker shield damage in the game + auto bomb + stamper, the best rain maker popping tools in the game.
    It also paints a ton, so it might be one of the few anchors mobile enough to keep up with the pace of the mode.

    The Tri-stringer charges in 72 frames. Well charges in 80 frames. The first ring (where the bottles are fully charged) are at 37 frames. But compared to the tri stringer you wont be able to spam them out at a wide area, they will be fully in the middle. You must charge longer to get the wider radius.
    The custom kit is actually my favorite. The kit being bad is a balance issue, not a synergy issue. Sensor is one of the best sub weapon it could get, but wave of course is weaker right now, even casually. I have studied this weapon so much and this is coming from a stringer class LOVER, you can trust me
    and if anyone has questions ill answer to the best of my abilities

    Based on the glow which, based on the Tri-Stringer footage, seems to get a tiny bit dimmer once the charge is fully complete, the Wellstring player seems to be firing the shots almost right after it's fully charged. Thanks for the video btw! ^^

    As a stringer main, my take is that it is a better kit than most people will expect and the main weapon is going to function similar to a squiffer/explosher combo.
    The stringer weapon classes main weaknesses are being outranged by a liter, or rushed down by a vast majority of the weapon meta. Hammer functions as a deterrent to a rush down strategy, as you can either throw to get a quick tank refill, or situationally get a trade or 2 for 1 if the player is able to pop it safely. The auto bomb is pretty much an excellent sub for the stringer class as youll be able to get some traps as well as throw them for quick lethal or splash damage.
    As for the main weapon, the interesting aspect is how the arrow spread narrows on charge level one, giving it short range quick kill option like a squiffer, and spreads on charge level 2, giving it better paint output at distance like an explosher. The tri has issues killing in the midrange because it's fairly difficult to line up a shot that has all 3 bolts. With the 5 bolt spread, it significantly increases the chance of a successful kill.
    So in short, it depends.

    stringer player here, i am very hopeful for this thing but i think that it will be good. I tend to play tri-stringer very aggressively by using the mines to close out areas, which this thing is going to excel at thanks to the half charge. it’s also worth noting that there is a “critical charge” that you can see in the sizzle season trailer when the weapon is first being shown off. the reticles close in to almost overlap themselves a few frames before the half charge. the half charge itself is also very powerful for laying down a “death mine” that is most likely going to instakill anyone who is near it when it explodes.
    the kits could be a lot better, and that goes for every stringer. I honestly think the best one is vanilla tri-stringer because wail just works well enough for it while chumps really doesn’t do much that the weapon doesn’t already do. really hoping for a content extension to give at least a stringer a good kit.

    The Tri-Stringer has somehow been my most-used weapon in Splatoon 3, and I'm very curious to see how the Wellstring stacks up, though I don't expect it to be competitively viable like...at all. Even getting up to the first charge level to tighten the arrow spread enough to one-shot, there's a wealth of other weapon options in the game already that will be able to get that splat quicker or more efficiently and also have stronger overall kits. I see it being a fun novelty for casual stringer fans (like myself) but against the likes of Splattershots, Squeezers, Stampers, Heavy Edits, virtually anything with a trizooka...it's pretty well DOA.
    That being said, I do like the concept of it anyway, doubling down on the arrow mini-bomb idea of the Tri-Stringer at the cost of range, perhaps some ink efficiency, and needing to be tighter on your timing if you're trying to one-shot. The sense I get from Nintendo's demos of it so far is that the weapon's intention is to be scattering a lot of AoE that allies can follow up on, and the level 1 charge one-shot is more of an emergency option to stop a rushdown, rather than mid-range snipes that you'd be specifically aiming for as your main means of fighting. Stuff like Squiffer and Reef-Lux exists for that playstyle already anyway.

    I'm guessing the Tri-Stringer will be better in certain mapmodes,
    Generally though i think Tri-stringer will almost always be the pick on TC and Some Clam Blitz maps, However the Wellstring will outshine it in every other mode.

    As a Tri-Stringer main, my initial impression is that I hope the Wellstring won't outclass the Tri-Stringer, because if it has comparable damage and spam, the only thing the Tri-Stringer has going for it is the oneshot.
    One thing I kind of hope will set the Wellspring and Tri-Stringer apart is ink useage. The Tri-stringer is really ink efficient holding at ~12 charged shots per ink tank, one of the ways to put a real tangible downside to Wellspring that makes the two weapons feel different enough to use would be to make it hold no more than 8 fully charged shots per tank. I also hope it ends up not being quite as mobile to play.

    I was kinda hoping that this would bring me back to stringers and it might with its fun factor but obviously not its good factor. I think it will be a fun weapon but I don’t think I’ll go back to the stringer class

    I could be crazy but I feel like from watching the trailers it seemed like the soda bottles deal less damage because I could swear on my life that I saw like the mint decapitator take six of the soda bottles to kill it, the weapon looks like it's going to paint fairly well which I'm excited for wavebreaker and point sensor are incredibly under tuned but it could be potentially the best opening Gambit kit in the entire game since it'll constantly be getting assist and like little bits of damage on people and I know you want to run a lot of swim speed with the bow so this would free up the rest of your gear slots but like is it worth more than having LDE probably not realistically speaking, on top of that like it does seem to have a good bit less range than the regular bow but at the end of the day it still has some pretty good range like it's definitely not going to be up close in the fight like the reflux it is still going to sit a good bit back and at the end of the day if someone's rushing you down the time that it'll take for you to get your stamp and get going from a up close distance is usually too long and will likely end up having you get eliminated The best case scenario I really see for stamp is having it and just kind of throwing it at the rainmaker or at an e-liter or another backliner that just outrages you and the weapon essentially being a way shittier trizuka

    I’m by no means a stringer guy but this kit speaks to me for some odd reason. Make it easier to attack people if they’re running from the autobomb and an offense option with stamp when cornered.

    I love this thing. I have been using tri stringer for a while and the way I use it is I use the explosions to trap people and deny space and this thing is way better at that style. Its way less punishing when. People come up to you because the one shot is in the middle and doesn't need all 5 projectiles to hit and it paints really well when denying space. I feel like the loss of longer range kill potential is worth it for good paint, long range chip support, good area of denial, and a not punishing close range game.

    The primary feature of this bow /seems/ to be that uncharged shots fire with a relatively narrow spread while charging it spreads the shots out, the opposite of the other stringers that focus their aim in when charging.

    Autobomb could play into the whole bow thing of chip damage and contributing to every fight, since it's a quite low commitment bomb that you can just chuck in someone's general direction and still threaten something. Not to mention the applications of the location. It remains to be seen if the Wellstring can actually play to that though, since it's range reduction might make it harder to be the backline chip weapon Tri-stringer currently plays as.

    Someone that mainly plays stringers here. I can see this being used in situations where maybe you have a charger player and a stringer player together so you don't have 2 weapons trying for the same position as often but don't want to switch to the flux. I'm not in the competitive scene or anything so I can't say if it'll really see much use, especially since we still don't know everything yet. Off the top of my head I think most situations Tri stringer would still be the go to, but if this got maybe splash wall to protect itself a bit with it's shorter range or cooler because cooler in an alternate kit someday it might be preferable. I really need to actually have it to judge things though

      I don't feel like Stringer really competes with Chargers, You don't have the reliable damage a Backline wishes to have, To fill that position I think you need two Stringers to combo with each other from range and alternate positions.
      Stringer isn't very picky with distance, You can play somewhat close or faraway but you're only in it for the chip damage as a Support.
      Wellstring might be more defined, Either you're close enough to snipe or far away to vertical one burst enemies (Like a slower one shot Explosher), Anchor that can fend for itself vibes.

    something i noticed in the one clip we have for the wellstring is that when fully charged, vertical shots seemed to be landing consistently in the same spot, creating a dangerous concentrated explosion AOE (tri stringer with a similar spread would hardly ever do that; would need very specific angles). those trick shots could have been practiced for the purposes of the clip, but it happened enough times to let me think it's going to be an actual gimmick of the weapon!

    Speaking as someone who plays a fair amount of both the vanilla Tri-Stringer and the variant, this weapon is looking to be rather strong, but is going to require good knowledge of positioning and timing of when to fire your shots. Given how the reticle changes in the preview footage we do get, it is very much going to be a timing based weapon.
    I really can only see the vanilla kit getting use in competitive, if at all. The second one is our eleventh Point Sensor weapon...

    Wellstring seems like a proper Backline that can take care of enemies rushing towards it, Unlike Stringer which is a long range chip damage weapon.
    Vertical Full Chargers line up the explosions in a spot and will no doubt be enough to one shot enemies, Stringer and Explosher both need multiple arcs to take care of someone but the latter has effective ink for trapping.
    Where as Stringer prefers Horizontal I'm not sure Wellstring will, You already have an issue following up on chip damage with Stringer and the new one will have less explosion output so it won't Support as effectivly.
