Horrible. I feel responsible for my participation in purchasing this crap. I cannot continue to do so knowing the cost to these workers and the environment.
Given this documentary is actually dated from 2015, I would very much welcome a similar documentary comparing the situation to today in 2023, going into 2024.
Believe me, it will be worse. Covid ruined lots of manufacturers as customers pulled & cancelled big orders meaning the most vulnerable workers lost work/ possibly even factory owners went bust & the economic crisis that has followed has meant volume of orders has not yet resumed normal capacities (although sustainably this is better for the environment) infact the manufacturing side got hit the worst. We are struggling in western countries with our own BS but ultimately we (myself included) involved in this ‘outfit’ though down on our own wages, under target pressures & tough economical climate, we still are better off and should atleast have a apathy and a conscious.
"does it bother me? is that what you are asking me? well, no, there could be worse jobs they could be doing..."Wow, just because there could be worse things doesn't justify that you should exploit them just because you physically can and have the power to do so and it benefits you...

THANK YOU, THANK YOU for producing this documentary!! The western world needs to see these truths!!! Every human has value, no matter the country they are born in yet we definitely don’t treat every human with dignity. I cried throughout and dedicate my life to fighting for fair trade, wages and dignified partnerships across the globe!!!
Incredibly eye-opening documentary. I feel horribly for everyone mistreated here. We saw heartbreaking glimpses of a few lives. I can’t begin to imagine the horrors millions more live through. It’s unjust we as consumers aren’t shown how our products are sourced. Advertisers never show this side of consumption. Every people alive must see this show. We cannot continue with mindless consumerism. Share this with your friends and family. The more people that know, the less that will support the fast fashion industry.
That only applies to middle class and completely ignores lower class, who use Black Friday, Boxing Day, and discounts and sales to buy basic necessities as well as splurges as a treat to themselves (like electronics) bc why should poor people be deprived of fun things in life? Not to mention, western worlds punish far greatly kids who can't afford to keep up with trends, whether it's outdated clothes or lacking of x,y,z, than poorer countries. If anybody is over consuming as illustrated by multiple RUclips videos of doing $200-500 hauls of fast fashion or even mall stores fashion is middle class who can afford to shop in surplus. 100% agree. I just bought my first sewing machine a few days ago and I wanted to look up how bad the fast fashion industry really is. I am both sadned and heartbroken that I have been a part of the problem. I will ONLY be thrifting my clothing from here on out.
Same here! I'm sad to see that this documentary doesn't have more views though. As a 6th grade science teacher, I do a unit on Climate Science each year in April/May. This documentary is too graphic to share with my students, but I can find other ways to bring awareness to the issues of fast fashion on the environment and lively hood of garment workers. I watch a lot of videos on climate change causes/effects/solutions, consumerism, minimalism, zero waste, upcycling, etc. and have already made efforts to be more eco-conscious as an American consumer and mainly purchase items from thrift stores, farmer's markets, FB market place, and other second hand apps. I hope this documentary reaches a wider audience and more people have a change of heart and more eco-conscious consumerist behavior.
the most eye opening documentary there is. ive been showing it to everyone around me ever since it came out. I wish we could popularize it even more. IT NEEDS TO BE SCREENED IN CINEMAS!!!
We Americans live in a very selfish, self-centered society . We need to rethink our moral and spiritual priorities.. get back to the basics like family, children , and spiritual growth.
The argument that other options for people in third world countries are worse is irrelevant, the big corporations have created this constant “need” and given us substandard products that are made to be replaced I say don’t feed these corporations buy local and we’ll made, refuse consumerism as much as possible. We need to realize we are bombarded with messages to buy buy buy keeping us on an endless treadmill of consuming without thought
The best thing you can do for the planet is to not have a child. The planet needs the human population to gradually decline over the next many centuries
This is so eye-opening. Seems impossible that these types of horrible things could be happening in the 21st century, and yet we ourselves are helping to perpetuate the cycle. I don't think I'll ever shop again without thinking of this. It'll make me think twice before every purchase. That clip of Stephen Colbert is making all these serious statements and mocking the popular culture while the audience laughs and chants U-S-A is chilling.

This is what many people should see, better than watching how's influencer life, and drive your ego, greedy which never feel enough and always need social acceptance.
It’s like The Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911, here in NY. Greed in the clothing industry has a long history. Lots of information here…so much we never knew. Heartbreaking!
This has been so helpful, thank you to all those who contributed in its making as I have now decided to make changes to how I shop and what i purchase and reduce my consumption where i would often not even think about how many sweaters or dresses i have in a variety of colours. This doco has been an big eye opener with consumerism & capitalism at the core and, how we are targeted and manipulated thru marketing & promo continuity without a single thought to the Blood & Suffering that may have gone into the garment I've bought. Thanks again for a Fab doco 👍🏼🙏🏼
So sad. The same with electronics and appliances. The replacement parts cost almost as much as a new appliance. Greed and the media- this is the main cause. I never heard of any companies helping after the Bengalash (spelling) accident. Just keep pumping out these documentaries.
Mind blowing and insightful documentary and I am so grateful that you shared this as I have been slowly working on becoming a conscious buyer and i have shared this movie with my friends and loved ones thank you for the work you are doing changing one person at a time, i am touched
This is very mind opening documentary. I would never see the clothing shops ever like before, dark sides of manufacturing corporations, dark side of cotton farming. There's a lot of realization watching this video. I'm glad I watched this and I hope more people would. Archive fashion getting attention is a big help to put less pressure to the farmers and sewers, glad some people made it viral thrifting vintage clothes.
Thrift clothing is not only a better value ,but is better quality. There is a lot of dead stock (new old clothing that was never worn) and many gently used items. New clothing is often made from poor quality materials and is poorly assembled.
The WORLD needs to see the truth, and the shift needs to begin ASAP. Consumers need to become activists. we can change this world together. Hope this movie goes SUPER VIRAL! I can never look at fashion the same again without question. We need disclosures and regulations in the US, we need to support ethical practices and a company's supply chain is a part of their business and should be disclosed to the public or considered fraud because they are directly harming (no, destroying !) the world and people! whether the business is public or private we should have regulations. I hope people stop buying from companies that do not disclose where and how their products are made- like ingredients on a food box we need disclosures, so we won't shop blindly. just like GMO food products have GMO labels we should know if the cotton has chemicals, the factories who make it, etc. Like the FDA approves certain products in the US, clothes should go through a regulatory body that analyzes the true cost of these clothes, ALL of the inputs, and NOT ONLY the outputs. Unethical practices are not right and consumption of fashion in all brands should be looked into by the consumer, the brands are literally giving us no choice and are destroying the planet(land, water people!). Like I said if not disclosed like ingredients on the food box we should not buy. Then change would happen when fashion owners see a decline in first hand buying and would be forced to make changes. Free Trade need to be fixed its the 21st century and the earth is literally going to shit because there are no regulations for the greed. I pray for a positive change. This documentary was heartbreaking but so impactful. Thank you for sharing!
Everyone should see this. It's one thing to "know" that people are treated unfairly, it is an entirely different thing to see it and realise the extent of the exploitation.
Very good documentary. I need to think more whenever I buy a new garment piece now. Very encouraging and powerful message. I literally feel bad for many people who are working for 2$ a day

Only the truth can prevail. You can do your part by spreading it and how the industry is negatively affecting the world to your children and hope they’ll come to understand it with time. You can’t change their own minds, but certainly become a positive influence and image in their minds when it comes to confronting global challenges on a local scale. The peer pressure in our societies is crazy and I don’t have a good answer or guide on how to be the perfect “non-consumer”, because quite frankly there isn’t one. When faced with all that we seemingly can’t accomplish or won’t be able to fully tackle in our own time, we gotta to try our best and do what we can each and every day, you know? One step at a time. I’m looking into buying clothing from thrift shops more often to reduce clothing waste and promote recycling. See what works best for you and your goal and let us know too❤
24 minutes of the video and completely heartbroken. How do we, as costumers, identify brands not associated with this exploitation (on a fashion perspective)?

This is tiring. Instead of "I call to international brand" I say "I call to my fellow consumers to held these international brand responsible by limiting our own consumption and boycotting these brands when they don't have a humane supply chain"
It's gonna be hard to do when more and more stores convert to fast fashion quality with synthetic fabrics. The only reason thrifting is even viable right now is because there's still moderately quality clothes circulating the thrift stores. But way to put responsibility on the consumer (most of whom have no malicious intent towards the factory workers) and away from the corporations that created these systems, when they hold so much power and resources and can easily change. How big is the middle class anyways? Many of us could not afford anything else than the cheapest stores at the mall and now online. Many people don't have the income to vote with their pocket and force these companies to change. I think she addressed the right entity in her speech.
What hurts me the most is 2 things: 1. The incidents in Bangladesh are horrific and it is very sad to see people lose their lives trying their best to earn for their families even if it's a tiny amount and then when they make any demands they get shushed up and told to keep quiet and they use violence on them making them powerless😤😤😤 2. The use of pesticides and chemicals taking a toll on children who are losing most of their childhood and suffering to impairments and mental retardation at such a young age and parents being unable to save them and feeling powerless and their last resort is waiting for the child's death. Where has this world come to😢😢😢
Keep asking specific questions and questioning everything around you, looking for the root cause of the problems and solutions and how we can overcome them.
a gorgeous garment can be worn several times, for several years (depends of course). Trying to increase how much clothing you keep and reuse is a good start. Selling clothing you don’t need or buying second hand is good too
and 8 years later, the fashion industry has gotten even faster and more exploitative
So sad :(

What hurts me the most is 2 things:
1. The incidents in Bangladesh are horrific and it is very sad to see people lose their lives trying their best to earn for their families even if it's a tiny amount and then when they make any demands they get shushed up and told to keep quiet and they use violence on them making them powerless😤😤😤
2. The use of pesticides and chemicals taking a toll on children who are losing most of their childhood and suffering to impairments and mental retardation at such a young age and parents being unable to save them and feeling powerless and their last resort is waiting for the child's death. Where has this world come to😢😢😢
the fair trade boss is such a narcistic, it's all a botu her and she presents it as if she is so nice to those people.Unbearable.

How does one contribute to change...I adore gorgeous garments bt had no idea they come at a cost of poor souls and some lost in the way💔
Keep asking specific questions and questioning everything around you, looking for the root cause of the problems and solutions and how we can overcome them.
a gorgeous garment can be worn several times, for several years (depends of course). Trying to increase how much clothing you keep and reuse is a good start. Selling clothing you don’t need or buying second hand is good too
