as someone who started with nothing but a blank slate, I know it can be overwhelming but I also think I learn something and get better at designing after each section. With all the work you've done over the years, it's a chance to take everything you've learned and put it into the new design! I'll be looking forward to seeing what you put back!
i started with a blank slate fall 2019....and this fall i feel the entire space is going to finally feel full with perennials, now i have very little room for annuals, in spring i'm adding 3 clematis, watched your video Erin on clematis, your videos have been so helpful, and my daughters design eye, i can't believe it's fall, but now can't wait for spring... hoping our fire season is better in july and august cause that really shortens gardening time, my allergies kept me inside july to august....but i nade two quilts😂😂
Wow, perfect timing. I am also moving a bed that is over a French drain outlet. We just found it after years of basement water. 2 inch pipe with one inch root in it. When life gives you lemons....
Put some Aleve ‘on hold’. Good luck, Erin. You just inspired me to do something quite similar to my septic tank area that was dug out last fall. I have plenty of things that can be dug, divided and re-homed to that area and have put it off due to fear of being carried away by mosquitoes. Will have ‘Off’ on hold and get to work thanks to you.
Erin, healing them-in in the raised garden beds is a great idea! That's what I have been doing with some of the perennials and shrubs (still in nursery containers) that I haven't yet decided where I want to plant them. I have several perennials that need to be divided also, so some of those might also have to over-winter in the garden beds. Have fun designing the new area, where you want those plants to end up in your landscape next spring. You'll have the winter to fine-tune the new landscape area. It's unfortunate that part of your garden has to be torn apart, but it's also an opportunity to create a whole new garden room! How exciting! I hope you have a good week!
You are not the only one who needs a blank slate. I had to redo a small bed by my garage. I wound up removing all the still blooming vinca because I needed to see the space empty. I put things in the bed I already had and I love how it turned out!
Thanks for the timely destruction info and how bravely you are dealing with the work involved saving the plants. We lost a boulder retaining wall with the storms that came through in my part of Michigan in August. The top of the wall was heavily landscaped. I sacrificed the veggies growing in my raised beds to heal in the perennials that were more costly to replace than the annual vegetables. I incorporated BioTone into the raised beds help the severed roots along. The rebuild will not happen until spring of 2022 so I will have all winter to plan a new landscape.
Perfect timing! I’m having a new gas line put in along the side of my front garden. Huge trench, grass, bushes and plants all need to be moved. Since it will be done either later this month or Nov, I was trying to figure out the best way to keep them steady until the work was completed. This helps a ton! Thanks, Erin!
I feel your pain! We had a new roof done recently, as well as siding on the house. My gardens were crushed in several areas where pulling things out wasn't possible. Most have recovered, but still look sad. I'm hoping in the Spring they will bounce back. It sounds like you have a good plan for moving your plants. Be sure to oversee the project as much as possible to manage any issues that come up. There are always surprises! Good luck with your project!!
Just had a similar experience. We had a noreaster for 3 days straight on Lake Huron, lost 3 trees. The reconstruction will result in an initial demo. Sucks 😬 I also transplanted into my raised bed. Great minds!
Had to dig through the middle of a bed on the side of my driveway because of drainage issues, water puddling on the driveway. Created a dry river bed that drains the driveway and used up a bunch of concrete rubble I needed to get rid of. Looks great and the driveway drains it was a win.
Yep ! Oil Tank removed under the foundation planting in the front yard. To much of a mess for me to tackle. Hired a landscaper and paid a crazy amount !!!!!
I am in the process of doing this as well. Our septic tank was NOT where we were told it was, however. Where I thought it was, I planted the easily moved plants. I'm trying to beat our frost date to get the ones over the actual tank settled elsewhere. Bummer...
We have septic too, but in the front yard and it’s an above ground drain field. We have three not so lovely large mounds. I so wish I could hide them as easily as you hide yours!
Well heck I was raising my hand for geranium Haha 😄, ive been there digging up everything for septic. But the dreams of what you can do after. Happy gardening
I am looking forward to your new design. I love that you are seeing it as an opportunity! I have a space that I am redesigning and I think the geranium is calling my name. I have cedars and Fir trees along my driveway and I need a workhorse groundcover. Thanks from Portland Oregon!
I was able to score some beautiful daylilies and Shasta daisies on marketplace. They've been growing in pots all summer and I still haven't figured out exactly where I'm going to plant them. So I will be doing the same thing.....into my raised garden beds they will go once those are cleared. Hopefully by spring I will have it figured out!
Gosh I'm at the cusp for orderiing Geranium Macrorrhizum! I'm wondering if I should wait til spring but my finger wants to order now!😭. Ugh! We're getting a sprinkling of snow this week in higher Reno Nevada!
That definitely looks like a not so fun project, but I’m sure will end up amazing!!! Too bad I’m not closer because I’d be glad to help and of course have cocktails to end the day!! 🥂🍸
I have stuff planted over my septic tank, too, and I just don't plant anything too precious over it, or things that are easily transplanted. I don't know what they would do if it ever had to be replaced! We don't have great clearance on either side of the house.
How much sun will the geranium tolerate? I have clumps in shade, but would love to divide and move into other areas. Zone 6b eastern Washington. Similar desert conditions that Laura at garden answer grows in.
Is that the area that flooded one year where the wooden bridge is❓ I seem to remember a raging river beyond the bridge that washed out what you were trying to plant.
A great opportunity to change things up. We had a tree die and lost another in a storm this July, I’m still staring at the area trying to decide what to do with it 🤔. Off topic, what do you know about Asian jumping worms?! I think I have them 😳
I see you have Blue Kazoo Spirea in this bed. How or what do you do to make them look so good? I have had 3 for about 5-6 years now and no matter where they have been in my yard they look horrible. The summers where I live are hot and humid but they are supposed to be able to take that. Mine end up looking fried and crispy by August and this year I had to cut several branches off each because they had what looked like a white fungal infection. I'd really like to see mine look like yours!
What a year! Numerologically, 2021 = 5 which represents change, unexpected developments and chaos. Luckily, next year being a 6 will be all about relationships, marriage, the home and peace. (We can still flip it to divorce, war and fighting but why?) Thanks for this video! 💐
Hi Erin - any chance you would be willing to send me some of the Geranium Macrorrhizum? I'll pay for postage! have a huge partly shaded hillside, which I have been struggling with for years and because I share it with three neighbors, after pulling the ivy, I didn't want to plant something just as invasive. This seems exactly what I need and I would hate to see any go to waste.

Well your blank slate turned out AMAZING, Sullivan!

I can’t believe that’s a year’s worth of growth for that geranium! It’s been on my list for a while, and now I have to bump up the timeline. 👍
Very smart to use the raised beds. A new opportunity and something to dream about all ❄️
Thanks for another refreshing moment in your garden

We just had a new septic installed. No flower bed to dig up, but it puts out clear water that drains into my new rain garden I am creating.
It is very pretty but I'm sure you will make it pretty again...Keep Smiling
khu vườn đẹp quá ạ
Hey, new garden....All ways a good thing ! My sister in law only planted annuals and a pot over hers !

You are right, It’s a new opportunity!
Good luck with the project! I did a similar perennial overwinter in my raised veg beds this past year and it worked out really well.
Real life. Thanks for sharing 😊

Such a timely video - I'm doing this too. Thanks for taking us with you!

I think it’s a good thing. Sometimes are gardening style changes and change Is good!
Wish I lived close to you to take some off your hand. You have a beautiful yard.

I LOVE geraniums!!!! I wish we were friends... I even have some geranium biokovo for trade when you were ready.... LOL
Looking forward to watching u rip it out and do your magic xxx💖 Carol xx
Nooooo!!!! It is just sooo beautiful to move...

I try to put it to overwinter in my veg garden, in ground, if I cant get to it in fall.

Watching your good video makes me study harder, greetings from Indonesian Vanilli planters
Amazing
Real life thanks for sharing
Don’t worry about the copters- we can still hear just fine 😊

Wish I was nearby to be the recipient of some of your orphans. What are the pink blooms behind you at the end?
How much sun will the geranium tolerate? I have clumps in shade, but would love to divide and move into other areas. Zone 6b eastern Washington. Similar desert conditions that Laura at garden answer grows in.
For me it grows in everything from full sun to shade but I suspect in a drier area you’d be better with a part sun scenario.
What a chore! But a fresh start….FUN!!
What are you doing with the potted hydrangea to over winter it?
Is that the area that flooded one year where the wooden bridge is❓ I seem to remember a raging river beyond the bridge that washed out what you were trying to plant.
This is a big further "downstream" from there (i.e. to the east).
@@TheImpatientGardener oh ok .🙂

Very beautiful garden mam
Would you please precise the variety of geranium this is? It looks so good. I want to buy some.
Geranium macrorrhizum. There’s a link in the description for more about it.
Can any of those plants be relocated to the shared bed with your neighbors?
Definitely some of that geranium could be and perhaps there might be a few other things hiding in there that could as well.
Yea- a hurricane came through. Knocked down a shade tree - all the shade garden had to be moved.

In going to take mine out. It is growing well, but all the leaves have big brown blotches on them. We had a hot, totally dry summer.
@@SMElder-od5cl Its such a shame because when they grow well, like in the Impatient Gardeners garden they are beautiful.

Oh next year sounds awfully nice! Thanks for that. :)
Why does my geranium hate me? I’m thinking it’s it likes rich soil and more shade. Any tips?
I love how she says “Ryder Cup” like I know what that is 😁😳😬
Golfing
Yay I’m first comment! Destruction always means new beginnings. It’s sad and exciting.
How long did it take your geranium macrorrhizum (had to look that one up) to spread like that. I put in 3 plants last spring….
I should have watched a bit longer ;). How many plants did you put in?
I divided it all from another area, so I don't know how much I put in, but if I had to guess maybe 30-40 divisions?
Make a pond with old septic tank🤔
Oh, I don't think that would be good. Also it would be REALLY deep .. more like a really gross swimming pool.
