    Not Over The Moon!
I went to the Moon, with such high expectations. It was a major let down. The place was dusty and rocky, the landscape monotonous and boring. There were no sounds, like, at all. Just quiet, you could hear yourself breathing. No structures of any kind, no gift shops. And we were put inside THE most uncomfortable suits so that we "could breath and stuff". It was too awkward to walk in those things. The trip was terrible, too. Crammed, the food was awful, and going to toilet was unspeakably horrific. On the Moon, Earth looked pretty, but not as awesome as in the pictures. All in all, the Moon is completely over-rated. One star.

I'm from India. I've been to the Taj Mahal. It's out of this world. And no, it's not "small" lol. It's actually huge and idk what kind of photos this person saw before visiting it that they thought it'd be the size of a planet. And the whole complex is massive and full of various other beautiful and huge structures, including gardens and pools, and it's really amazing.
The beauty of the Taj Mahal goes beyond just its superficial architecture. I went on a full moon's evening, and realised that the intricate carvings on it actually sparkle like millions of stars in the moonlight. It's unlike anything I had seen before and was just magical. They built it in the 17th century, and carved the panels in a way that they'd actually shine in the moonlight. It was a long time ago since I've been there, but the views are just burned onto my retinas. It's one of the most beautiful places I've been to. However, it was more than 20 years ago that I went there and I'm not sure if the Taj Mahal is still open to visitors in the evening. I hope it is, at least on full moon nights, because that's one of the best things about it. And of course, the structure itself is just breathtaking. It's insanely beautiful and peaceful. You need to be devoid of a soul to find the Taj Mahal meh.
Tbh most of these reviewers are mad at things not at all related to the structures themselves. "Hated Petra because I bought bracelets I didn't like." "Hated Taj Mahal because I didn't realise I was in India, where the surroundings range from 'Levi-level clean' to 'flithy like that stink spirit customer at the bath house in Spirited Away'." "Didn't like the Egyptian pyramids because I don't know how deserts work." "Didn't like Pompeii because I'm too umempathetic to feel the horror of what those people went through on the night of the volcano's eruption that made their bodies forever locked in position and turned to ash, and so I think they're fake." "Didn't like a freaking museum because I'm vegan and I can't look at skeletons of ancient animals (that died naturally) without thinking of eating them." I feel sorry for these people. These are the kinds of people who will never be happy

He was even more delighted when he was offered the experience of riding a camel to the site, that was a big "Hell yes!" from him. He brought back souvenirs, one was a camel saddle that he used as a foot rest in the living room until Mom insisted that it didn't go well with her Early American decor. The thing kinda stunk, too. Well, it's a bit funny. We like to make jokes about the americans, and we all have something to say about them. I did notice that the older ones always try to pass off as Canadian ! The younger ones, well with them, the clichés seem true. Otoh, they are adventurous. Also, there is the tendency to speak so loudly. It's not that they are impolite, I don't know, but they don't even know where they are ! Or which country they are visiting. My favourite is, when in a small town, a beautiful castle, a group of young men came up, talking to me directly, and asked where the Mcdonald was! It was hilarious 😂 ! But otherwise, I like them, if they make an effort. People are people in the end. Remember that when you visit the US, they don't care where you come from . Most are very nice and helpful, and contrary to what people say, the food is very good. Forget the meat part, I ❤️ NY , where incredibly I managed to get lost ! But, please, before embarking on an overseas trip, please know at least a bit of the history. Explaining can be tiresome. Nevertheless, you are all welcome ! 🙏

I think it is about expectations. I went to Granada knowing it had the Alhambra, but mostly because I had a feeling. I didn't really even looked at many photoes before going because I wanted to just experiment it in first person (and also because when I showed those pictures to the girl I was dating around that time she was like "Are you really going that far to see this crap". I went, lost my breath every time I catch some visual of it while walking in the city. While I was visiting it I couldn't close my mouth because of the wonder.... when I arrived at the gardens and the water games I start crying: I had never seen something so beautiful in my entire life. Now, the last time I went, you had to galop and fast to see much. The Lion's fountain ? The first time I could touch them, I didn't, but it wasn't cordoned off. This clip is very useful because it does show how little many tourists know. It's not difficult to inform yourself beforehand, with no explanations of the context or no interest in history. I visited the Machu Picchu once, and after listening to advice of people who has been there, I decided to join an organized tour group in town with a proper tour guide. Then only you could understand the magnificence of the ruined structures. The guide explained the function of every building on site, and what they used to look like. It was very informative, and I left with an increased knowledge.
My friends went as solo travelers, and they gave the same review as that geishaUSA fellow. "Boring, nothing to see but collapsed stones." LOL! I told them how I loved my trip there. I am a solo traveler as well, but there are certain tourist spots, especially ruins and such, where you need a proper guide to make your trip meaningful.

Agreed about the ruins and similar structures thing.
Haveing a guide or a profesional tell you about the place while being at that place is what brings everything together.
Reading about it at home (watching a video about it) is boring and since you already know about it it makes you not want to go beacose theres nothing to learn there anymore. Reading about it there takes away from the experiance of being there to admire the monument. (reading or watching a video would take a long time to do there and would distract from the monument itself too much compared to someone speaking to you irl while being there irl)
Going there without knowledge makes it be boring beacose you don't know anything about it and have no context of what or how or why the structure exists and what makes it interesting and cool.
Learning about it from a person while being there is the best as you get to both see and the monument for yourself in person and get the information and context needed to keep it interesting, entartaining and engageing.
And if you care about whether what the Giude said is true or not you can check it out after that when you get back to the hotel room before going to bed or whenever you have the time.

As someone who traveled for several weeks around Mexico in an old truck, I found the folks fantastic and friendly. We were there to collect orchids, so camped out, mostly - and looked fairly scruffy. People would invite us to their homes for dinner in a combination of our limited Spanish and their few words of English, but the hospitality and graciousness of average working folks was a joy. We avoided the tourist places as they are filled with people who make their living by selling to tourists, and we had so little money for anything other than food & gas. I've always felt safe in Mexico, and once you understand the cultural norms, you can get around very happily, and people will go out of their way to be helpful.

The touristy spots always suck too, unfortunately my Mom's home town is slowly becoming a tourist spot but the hospitality never left. It makes me sad when I hear people saying they don't travel to Mexico unless it's a resort because they are afraid of Narcos (drug dealers) but I live in the US currently and I've seen more drug dealers here than Mexico, lmao. Thank you for being respectful and enjoying our culture 😊

You can get lots of perks, and it's not that hard, a friendly hello can go a long way. The food culture is huge, people feed visitors and anyone who is around at the time meals are served.
Tourists do get charged more on some things, as do White passing Mexicans and it is annoying, but it is possible to evade sellers at the touristic spots, I've done it.
I also feel safe here, the majority of places are not Narco territory. There are places more safe than others but as far as I know, all tourist spots are super safe. Chichén Itzá is in the safest state.

I've been to India probably 20+ times, it was a wonderful part of my job buying gemstones. The first couple of trips you always want to see all the tourist areas - including The Taj - which is breathtaking FYI! It is 5+ hours away from any major city, (where the jobs are) so places like Agra are very poor. And I promise, no matter how much you might be financially struggling here, you haven't seen poverty until places like Agra. It makes you immediately realize how blessed you are. The people are so happy for you to even smile at them, let alone give them a quarter - these small gestures can matter so much. How dare these people put down a life they couldn't survive in for 1 day.

Okay, I feel like I need to counter-review some of these places, because... what the what.
    1) The Taj Mahal - I went to India in 2018 for a polio immunization campaign, which, for my team, was taking place in Agra. The Taj Mahal is absolutely stunning: I was in shock when I saw it, so much so that I started crying. Agra itself is the polar opposite of the building, but the people there were incredibly kind and welcoming. Oh, and, what do you mean *SMALL*?! It was so much bigger than I anticipated, I couldn't wrap my mind around it, to be honest!
    2) The Colosseum - as someone who is from Rome, I’m just... okay, everyone can have their own opinions, of course they can. But the tour guide speaking Italian, that’s something you can check before you actually book the tour! I’m always in awe whenever I see it, but I say this about every building in Rome, really.
    3) The Great Pyramids - amazing. I cried when I saw them as well. One thing people don’t realize though (other than the fact that, yes they’re in the desert) is just how close they are to the outskirts of Cairo. Oh, and the Sphynx, while amazing, is so tiny compared to the Pyramids!!! That made me giggle, I have to say. As for Cairo, the people there don’t hate anybody’s freedom. They’re very proud of their history and their people, as they should be.
I’d write more about how Mexico is beautiful and how all the other places are on my bucket list, but that would take too long!

I went to chichen itza when I was in cancun in December and I had a similar experience. We ate at like 11 am and then didn't get to eat again until we got back to the hotel at like 8 pm. Wasn't my favorite part of the trip honestly but I didn't care about not having beer. Lol. And the pyramids were really cool and I loved the tour guide, he was really informative. One of the white ladies on my trip was complaining about him speaking both Spanish and English. 🙄 Like lady you're in Mexico of course you're gunna hear Spanish. People are dumb.

I have to say I live near Lake Michigan and go to the beach often and im not surprised at all that people complain about sand 🤦‍♀️ like where do you want them to put it. Ugh. Tourists drive me crazy and then the amount of garbage they toss out and then say. Oh they have "people" for that.
One lady had a huge fit over a big old carp that had died and was on the beach. I mean just stomping her feet and screaming. She called 911 to have it removed. I was shocked they didn't arrest her but they made her husband pack her up and trespass her from. The state park.
I hope that meant all the state parks

I have my kids and grandkiddos trained to police the area when we go to the park and especially the beach. We mark off a big 3 to 4 foot circle around us and puck up all the trash we can find. (You'd be amazed at the amount of small plastic trash at the beaches on lake michigan 😳) and the person who finds the most trash gets to go first at the ice cream shop on our way back from the ⛱ beach. In some ways this has taught them to pick up all trash but other ways-they expect ice cream all the time when out at the park 🤣 but small price to pay to help mother earth 🥰
They love cherry tomatoes too. Over candy even. In summer no problem-i grow several types just for them but in January--costs me $4 a pint to treat them instead of a .70cent candy bar lol. But again worth the sacrifice. 🤣

Okay, so from what I know being an Indian and visiting the Taj numerous times it's not the caste system but the people living in Agra and also the authorities. Their concern is only Taj and not the surrounding area, which is really disappointing because, yes, the govt collects a lot of revenue from tourists but they don't use it accordingly. Also, remember that the Taj is in the state with the largest population in the country, so... 🙃🙃🙃

Also, just FYI the caste system is an older social hierarchical structure. It has no bearing on people's rights and privileges. People don't have toilets in rural areas - that much is true. But that has to do with economics and a lack of plumbing, and nothing to do with someone's caste.
