  • Pirate Nation is the first game from ProofOfPlay, the onchain gaming studio that recently raised $33m from a16z. Let's take a look and see if it is good.

Thanks for sharing. I thought I enjoyed Pirate Nation thoroughly. It's biggest draw is that it lives onchain.
Next I'd probably say is the questing and world events. Next would be it's PVP battle system, and the current PVE card engine is probably a precursor or litmus test for the game, before the real one drops.
I agree though that the card battle system is very basic (arithmetics!) and not being able to design your own deck is painful, but I think the way the game employs this is by NFT-fying ur ships/pirates for the various cards you might want in ur deck, instead of owning individual cards directly -- which is a unique way and quite honestly, a breathe of fresh air.
With $33M investment cache, you can bet they'll market the hell out of this game, and while we're still in a bear market, I think it's a great time to start holding a few founder pirates (cos you can't sell/trade the F2P ones, which are soulbound, yet). Of course, not financial advise at all.

so if you don't NFT-fy you don't get to enjoy the full game, thats a major recipe for failure

heavily agreed i wonder why they settled for a bland game play style
