MORE FREEPLAY PODCASTS! Luke, thank you once again for your unwavering loyalty and dedication to the craft. When you said you know how much work content can be that it limits the ability to play RL for fun, I could tell you really felt that. Just know that your vids and wisdom are never unappreciated!! People like you are the reason the RL community is as good as it is.
Freeplay and listening to this makes me just so much more motivated and I kinda feel like I play better while listening. You should defenitely make an RL podcast. Love ur content
As an ssl, here's what I did to get here, first, my main goal was to get to gc, to do that you MUST learn the basics (wavedash, half flips, powershots etc) only then I focused mainly on gamesense, eventually after mastering gamesense you should get to gc, however to get to ssl I done what comm said except I done a 70-30 split between freeplay and ranked. After mastering mechanics, you should naturally rank up and get to ssl. Getting from gc to ssl was an entirely different journey for me, so don't be discouraged. Good luck you got this.

Great video once again Luke!!! I'll enjoy watching this, SSL here I come!! Edit: I'm sure everyone would agree with me, these podcast style videos with pros are amazing and would love to see them more in the future, thx for the great content!
I felt that comment about new players wanting to flip reset before even knowing how to half flip. I have a buddy who is trying to get better at the game (he's high plat/low diamond) and I told him that he needed to at the very least learn how to half flip and figure out how to do air roll power shots at any capacity before even attempting to hit the ball a few times in the air just because it literally is that important to rank up
I’m champ 3 and I have a friend in diamond 1 and he says that the only thing that separates me and him is the fact I can use air roll left lol. He has no idea I cba to even explain it to him
This is what I feel like first touch should have been. It’s more serious in nature and you’re actually learning things from the people that are talking. First touch is just 4 people yelling at each other and hard banter lol. You definitely have something special with the vibe of this video.
These type of videos are actually so useful - I can just chuck it on in the background while doing something else. Taking the advice to try and hit C1-2 this season from D3 last season, improving flicks.

I was practicing flip resets like a year ago and I just couldn’t figure it out and then a couple months ago it just clicked, and I was doing constant flip resets and getting it in the goal. Idk how but I guess it’s from watching everyone on RUclips and analyzing their play styles that I understood without realizing it.
It’s bc you’ve probably improved ur base mechanics loads. If u master aerial car control and basic air dribbles ect then trying flip resets will be way easier than trying to learn it if u can’t even aerial properly
I feel like your vid’s have been helping me a lot, rn I’m stuck in champ but I know that thanks to your vid’s I’m progressing and learning and I will maybe make gc one day! Thanks for great content Luke
Dude you got it I don’t even have 300 hours and I’ve been on the very brink of C3 already (C2 div4). It’s very doable just keep grinding your training packs and try to get a teammate to play with
@Isiah Lashley I guess I’m a fast learner because compared to other people I’m flying through the ranks. That being said I’ve put a lot of time into training it all depends on where you spend your time in rocket league to improve. If you only play ranked you might not improve as fast on your mechanics.
@@dudesha5916 I spend a considerable amount of my time in training. I use it to grind mechanics/warm up every time I play and I think that’s the best place to improve and then you go into ranked and implement what you’ve learned and to hone your gamesense and other skills.
Great video! Actually sat and listened the whole time. Reminds me of some audibles I listen to. If only there were like consistent podcasts with pros and other content creators on topics of the day.
This is honestly probably the best and most informative rocket league video I’ve ever watched. Easily one of your greatest videos. I've said it before, but I will say it again, your longer videos are your best videos. I definitely understand it is tough to make quality content that is lengthy but I truly believe you are onto something great here with the podcast style.
I think it depends on the rank you are on. If you are getting caught out of position a lot, improve you game sense ( reading the bounces , driving to cut off the ball path instead of having to chase after it) but if you are getting opportunities but mess up your plays you should train that mechanic ( for example you get space to dribble and flick but you can't execute , other plays are, powershots, airdribbles , bounce dribbles, double taps etc) but your game sense has to be on on point for the speed of the game (rank) you are at , to get the opportunities to go for those. So gamesense first , then mechanics and repeat it when you notice one is lacking. I usually get gamesense up fast, but my plays are not good enough for a long time. I am 33 though so learning that stuff is just really really hard haha
Great Video, with helpful information as always! Would be sick if these "podcast" style videos, or at least their audios, would be avialable on other platforms (Spotify, apple Podcasts, etc) too1

As a chess player, I'm enjoying the chess quotes. The rest of the content is great too, of course. I thought I was allocating quite a bit of my thought to the opponents but it appears I should bump that up. When it comes to mechanics and game sense.. I'm really just going to do both for long term. It's more interesting to put aside the debate entirely and consider them both together because then I get to train different things.
This video was like a sigh of relief for me.. I have ab 400 hours and I’ve been in and out of d1 about 7 or 8 times now. Last season was the 1st season that I’ve ended in Diamond. I spend the vast majority of my time in game in free play GRINDING my Carries and Flicks/ wall play. I still suck at all of them and have seen minimal improvement so far, but improvement nonetheless. It’s good to know a lot of this stuff!
I would say the mechanics you need to reach GC are: 1. The ability to control the ball on the ground (basic dribbling, not necessarily flicks or air dribbles, and also how to control the ball well without it being on top of your car) 2. The ability to half flip 3. Knowing how and when to use wave dashes to regain speed during a recovery 4. Knowing how to shoot and clear hard from the ground, backboard, walls or even in the air, especially on defense 5. Knowing how to fast aerial 6. Knowing how to do some form of a speed flip 7. Knowing how to challenge without losing a challenge from any point on the field 8. SUPER IMPORTANT: knowing all the different ways you can fake effectively without overcomitting while either getting control of the ball, challenging the ball or outplaying someone (Flakes Road to SSL is a great place to learn this, including power slide cuts)
this video is genuinely inspiring, and i wish there were more videos like this out there. i just installed the game a few days ago and i’ve been trying to grind things out, so i must say that this is really helpful and very motivating to keep going.
